here is a little bit of a recent ray davies interview where he talks about bobby graham and his work with the kinks. i have added some of bobby's and my personal pictures to this interview.
I can see why he was so popular as a session drummer. Some of those Kinks and Them hits have been favourites of mine and I've always noted the great, confident drumming in them. And the fantastic, distinctive sound of the snare drum. Now I know why. Same drummer ! All those hits are a great legacy for a great musician.
He also played on the Dave Clark 5 sessions as well.Bobby Graham said"That Dave would be in the booth producing and he would be drumming on their songs.
that snare sound is often the giveaway and yes he the following dave clark tracks DO YOU LOVE ME GLAD ALL OVER BITS AND PIECES CANT YOU SEE THAT SHE'S MINE THINKING OF YOU BABY ANY WAY YOU WANT IT EVERYBODY KNOWS REELIN & ROCKING COME HOME CATCH US IF YOU CAN OVER & OVER LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP YOU GOT WHAT IT TAKES
I've known about Bobby for some years now, but it wasn't all that long ago I stumbled upon an article about a great Brit session drummer and some of the hits he drummed on. I realised then how all of those great hits had impacted me and that the powerful and and tasteful drumming was a big part of the attraction for me. I put 2 and 2 together at that point. Vale Bobby, you have enriched my ears and sensibilities
hey steve once you know his sound and style its easy to pick out bobbys drumming on so many classic 60's hits. i still hear something he played on every single day on the radio or tv
It's fascinating to read about Bobby's career and the amount of famous records he played on in the 60s. My favourite is I Know a Place by Petula Clark, the drums sound like an earthquake!
there is a book but tbh i didnt enjoy it too much. i knew the stories well and had heard most from bobby so when i read them it wasnt quite the same. might have to dig it out and re read

this is a link to the late, great Bobby Graham talking about his deep respect for Ray Davies and his other memories of the Kinks... Jimmy Page - memoirs of Bobby Graham part 5
I love the Kinks and i dont know much about Bobby other than that he's all over there first album, like another great session player, Nicky Hopkins, i tend to think of him as one of the Kinks.
