RIP Stevie Hyper D!! Our designer did a lot artwork celebrating his life's work. He was the best MC to bless the mic from that era! Was privileged to see him perform live many times and those memories have stuck with me.
I was here too. No where near like what it was like, but every so often would give a nod to those faces you know was there back in the day 😏 Pretty sure I bussed a sweat, that's always good sign!
This mix is great. I just wish the MC's would give it a rest in n some places. I mean they v are doing their thing and doing it well but let the music breathe a little.
Most of the tunes that were dropped we're specifically built for MCs. If you're looking for a liquid lounge this ain't the place. When does Ray Keith of all people play chill out. If you love the scene you'd appreciate all the diverse elements. Dark side, liquid, jump up, maybe not commercial stuff. Criticise all you like but MCs are an integral part of this genre and scene.
MCs are traditionally synonymous with DnB and jungle. I agree that some sets and scenarios are better off without an MC, or with an MC that chooses their spots carefully rather than breathless free styling the entire set. I personally do like the beats and prefer to hear the DJs mixing, cutting, juggling, or scratching. Still, you have to accept that MCs are a part of the scene. If you don't enjoy MCs, you need to study flyers or cyber posts for an event you plan on attending, they are usually quite specific.
@@markrago7217 been listening and DJing drum and bass since '97. Yeah I know all that you just said and I'm still going to stick with the fact that some of these MC's do the DJ and the crowd a huge discredit at times... especially when you're trying to spit nonsense over a track that already has lyrics in them. I've seen traditional drum and bass DJs slowly turn down the volume on MCs mics when they don't get the hint to ease up.
@@Decoy303 I hear you friend. The MC is just such a big part of the British roots of the music. It was their answer to hip hop. I get it though, studio mixes tend to jettison the MC and put DJ front and center, as do many live events. Be that as it may, some clubs and promoters push the MC accompaniment, it's practically status quo in England. I have definitely seen MCs steal the show or worse yet, just babble incoherent nonsense without pausing over an entire set. But I've also seen MCs choose their words thoughtfully, introduce the DJ, hype the crows, gush a bit over the breaks and take gods name in vain during bass lines. There is recent live footage of DJ Storm with an MC who's name I can't recall, but he conducted himself in a textbook manner. But maybe what Storm or 3D wants or needs is not what Ray Keith or JJF wants or needs. MCs may come off like juvenile delinquents seeking attention at times, but they are usually from the same label as the DJ, and the DJ accepts it.
