I first made & uploaded this video on my old channel some 7-8 years ago, back in the good old days of 240p. So I decided to make it again, in better quality.
Rest in peace Ray Manzarek (1939-2013) & Jim Morrison (1943-1971)
The Doors: Jim Morrison-vocals, Ray Manzarek-keyboards, Robby Krieger-guitar, John Densmore-drums.
Studio albums: The Doors (1967), Strange Days (1967), Waiting for the Sun (1968), The Soft Parade (1969), Morrison Hotel (1970), L.A. Woman (1971)

@@davenorman6717 that's why I say, Ray should have hung with Jim, partied n stuff but Ray only drank beer n wine, n wasn't a guyy who'd have lots of casual sex. Robbie n John too, they would b interested in a relationship, Jim was into more more more hehe
@tinafoster8665

@wildcatter63 this is true, Robbie's songs had way more consumer Commercial Appeal than Jim's crazy stuff but not just the Commercial Appeal, they were more applicable to average teenage angst
@tinafoster8665
@tinafoster8665 5 лет назад
@wildcatter63 well I didn't wanna call Robbie's contribution "adolescent" but that's basically what you're saying, which well-- Robbie wasn't the best guitarist either, but he like Ray n John SHOWED UP EVERY CONCERT, held up his end n while no showboat like Morrison or Mick Jagger he yes appealed to the teen girls with songs like Touch Me. But yes he'll alwayz b known as what's-his-name who picked n strummed for The Legendary Jim Morrison

i hope Ray was really in disbelief for all those years. While Manzarek was alive i felt more like he was trying to sell the idea of Morrison being alive somewhere. I look down on that a bit but if he really just had hopes his larger than life friend still around then i can respect that some.

Without Ray there is no The Doors. Ray pulled Jim up off of the beach of uncertainty. That is when Jim opened up with his poetry, but also his musical sense. Right there on the Santa Monica(?) beach. They were the 4 corners. They were. Just like Nirvana would. A team. Without the other they could not be the same musical band. That is how you know it is solid. If bands keep changing players and genres, they will not make for a legendary band.

Make no mistake, without Ray Manzarek there would not have been "The Doors." As he is doing here, he was constantly covering for Morrison's inability to stay sober or honor commitments. Interesting enough, I had the great pleasure to meet Ray, Robbie and John. In 2008 I was working as a limo driver, I picked up Ray at S.F. airport and drove him to his home in Napa, CA. We talked for 1.5 hrs. about his music/and the Doors music. He and Robbie were reviving many of the Doors tunes, and occasionally John would join them. Ray talked about Jim and his apparent death, music, poetry and his Shamanic Spiritual path. In 1969 I met John and Robbie at a Meditation retreat in Squaw Valley (Lake Tahoe). I play drums and percussion; and about 100 people jammed and danced at nights after our evening meetings. John, Robbie and myself led the drumming for the dancers. It was wild fun! He made up most of his stories. He’s worse than Paul McCartney in that aspect. The way people talk in his stories is always super dramatic or cinematic and never the way people actually talk. Ace haha, I wish. No it’s actually just that people like Manzarek and McCartney are often contradicted in their accounts of events. Manzarek’s characterizations of Morrison have always, always been completely opposite of everyone else who knew and spent time with him. It’s not a big deal. He, like many other old rock stars, was just concerned about preserving the legacy of his band. At the expense of the truth, sometimes.

I see pictures of it now where people take pics by his stone and leave flowers and such but at the same time, I see fencing all around that spot to prevent people going to close. Are you able to actually stand next to the grave or do people jump the fencing to get to it?

Riki, I feel an intense sexual energy coming thought Ray's vocal cords. I seriously think that Ray was secretly in love with Jim. The energy is too intense every time he talks about him.

I always thought that Ray limited himself by being a musician. He had so much character and style. Maybe more suited to a film maker.

His movie wasn't that great. Ray is a serious bullshitter. Other members don't remember things he apparently does. He keeps up the hipe, other members don't.

Well he was best suited as a musician but perhaps he could’ve been a poet too

And I would argue that being a filmmaker is limiting. A director is the precise equivalent of an office middle-manager: the cast & crew under, the producers over you. Even the artform's so-called geniuses like Hitchcock, Kubick, the Coen Brothers, have those pressures. In either case, you're collaborating.

Jim was a beautiful soul. He wasn't able to cause sth bad to sb, only to himself. He uplifted the human race with his music, poetry, entertainment, and style. RIP Legend!

“Cancel my subscription to the resurrection...”. I suppose that was Morrisons way of foreshadowing his romantic, polite, considerate exit. Blessed

Jim probably had a weakened heart vowel ( from birth ), and rough lifestyle didn't help, his body was swollen for weeks before his death, due to little sleep and heavy drinking. The warm water bath was one of the worst things he could have done, except for shovelling snow... but Jim Morrison was far too long down the line to make real changes to live a long and happy life, alas he would never have survived the withdrawal and detox/delirium

Jim was tired of fame and fortune, he was a poet in an era when stars were looking for something meaningful. Everyone was traveling to India and Kathmandu. Jim walked out on everything and went looking for himself. He probably got lost among the crowds in Nepal or so to never be seen again. A real shaman

Jim may have been the lead singer of the band, but Ray was the heart of the Doors. I have read every band member's books. Ray truly loved Jim as a brother. No one can tell you the story like Ray could. His voice was born to tell stories and to play an organ. Ray says here on this audio that when he heard Jim had been buried, he thought , "you mean I'll never make music with my brother again?" I bet Jim was right there greeting Ray in to Paradise and they are there making beautiful 🎵 music again! I hope to hear it someday!

Ray was one of three people who voted Jim out of the boand. What he said in public was purely for a cover.

Ray was the Doors cheerleader. The driving force of the group. He convinced Jim to stay in the band years before.
@organbuilder272
@organbuilder272 Год назад
@@scottharrison9083 WRONG, as usual. Robby was the unofficial leader of the group. It was his father who organised the management, financial managers and attorney for the group. Ray championed Jim introduced Jim to his brothers band, where Jim was rejected, and formed the original group. Jisrt John and then Robby joined to form the final organization which was a partnership, each member sharing 1/4 of the profits. Ray was against any sanctions of Jim regardless of his behavior which led to Jim becoming more and more erratic and out of control. Ray then went on to drag every known tape the Doors ever made to produce release after release of even the worst material all in the name of income. He continued to put Jim on an ivory tower feeding all sorts of silly notions all in the name of exploiting Jim for profit. Stop putting Ray on a pedestal. Had he been less permissive, it is likely that Jim and the Doors as a group would still exist today.

Sad story, still a legacy of mystery around a great and troubled artist, troubled by things that he had to do to stay on top, rather than just coming from the heart and soul and being known, poetically, for that. Ray was such a brilliant eloquent speaker as well as an awesome musician. RIP to them both and heartbroken Pam.

No one noticed depression, dangers of addictions for so many years and when he said he's going to Paris Ray was like "yeah, escape- what a great idea", this gonna work". And leaving him with another addicted person- Pam, another great thing. It was all like gettting rid of a problem, getting rid of drunk Jim. They needed him to be sober only on stage or in the studio. Its so freaking sad.
