Interestingly, the lyrics for this video are even less 'racy' than the lyrics on his LP album. In it there was mention of "peach preserves" and "guess what I'm a doin'..".
Not gonna lie, me and my boyfriend will call each other and go "It's me again Magaret." While if me or my dad walk into a room we yell "DON'T LOOK ETHAL!!" This man was such a huge part of my childhood and it's the best
This was my mother’s favorite song because it had her name in it. She also thought it was cute and funny, but mostly it was the name. She told me her entire life that she wanted this played at her funeral. She passed last July on my birthday. And yes, I played this, several times.
My grandmother had a vhs tape of him growing up I would watch him all the time and the part where he asks “ are you naked “ would make me bust up in laughter. This guy made my childhood
I love how he makes a reference to Telly Savalas as Kojak with the bald head and tootsie pop, and to Peter Falk as Columbo the detective with the trench coat. Have to be old enough to remember those shows, but what fun it is to catch those references. Go Ray.
I've been listening to Ray Stevens my entire life practically. I first heard "The Streak" when I was 7 and I'm 47 now. He's kept me laughing for 40 years...thanks Ray!!
@@Farrah300 Mine is where Ms. Bertha Betterthanyew gets called out for her misdeeds. That always has me rolling in the floor!! Entire song is a laughfest!!
Used to sing this at karaoke before lung damage. Used two distinct voices, one for the narrator, and one for the caller. Audience loved it! Even had a vice officer who sung there say i sounded like the type of person they'd get from time to time. Best complement i ever had.
There is something to be said for a person who can make clean songs about, um, delicate subject matter, and make it even more hilarious than if he were cussing all the way through. 🤣🤣 That is true talent. Mr. Stevens has been making me laugh since I was a kid, and I only recently rediscovered him. 😁😁😁
Hard to believe that this song is almost 40 years old. After all of these years, whenever my dad (age 83) calls me, and I answer my phone...he replies with "It's me Margaret."😂
I love this, it's friggin hilarious! I remember listening to this as a kid. I'd forgotten all about it until yesterday at work when a customer called back to add something to her order, & she said "It's me again Margaret". I don't think anyone else at work would've gotten it, _but I did!_ 😆
We played this at my great Uncle Ray's funeral years ago. We all laughed so hard. He grew up the older brother of four sisters, including my great aunt Margaret and he'd always called her and say "It's me again Margaret...Hello? Is this Margaret?" With the laugh and everything. We were howling through the tears, it was such a great time, exactly what he would have wanted. Thank you Mr. Stevens and R.I.P Uncle Ray and Aunt Margaret.
OP's post could've been written by me, personally. I, too, was introduced to Ray Stevens by my grandparents, and this music video was my Grandfather's favorite on the VHS tape. R.I.P. Pawpa.
Love this my Old Friend! I worked on Ray’s old theatre down in Branson way back when… Still Love Ya Old Buddy… Most my Family’s down in Ocean Springs Pascagoula area… I’m Up in Missouri. Keep’m Laughing Ray!!!
I remember me and my grandparents watched these videos on a VHS back in the early 90's i couldn't been 6 or 7yr old but after my grandpa passed a couple years ago we was going thru his things and found that VHS tape .. I have it now
This one is a 20 year running gag I have with my wife. It's too bad phone booths and pay phones are disappearing, man we had a lot of fun with this before caller ID and cell phones became widely available. Just a silly way to check in on each other when we are apart, usually with a couple bad pickup lines thrown in for laughs:-)
I know that this is a couple of years old, but with the right App on your smartphone, you can render Caller ID useless. At least, that's what the scam artists love to do when they call me.
Only a master could get away with this AND make it entertaining. Pure gold. It takes all kinds to make a world and I'm so glad Ray is in it. Sometimes we need a little, good, clean fun.
I know you will never see this...but I want to say thank you for everything you do...you have helped me more then I'd like to admit some times.you are one hell of a national treasure and a man who should be held up as a hero of true America values.
Same here girl. Fond memories of my Mamaw and I popping in the vhs as I lay in her lap while she sat on the floor in the dark brown shag carpet. I can still feel her stomach roll with laughter. Hahaha. Man. Sexual harassment never was so funny. My apologies to women on this, but this is fond to me because of my grandmother, not because of the harassment.
I grew up listening to all his music, Hello Margaret is one of my ol time favorites ❤❤😂😂😂😂 Gonna miss you Ray. He's retiring after this year. Ray thanks for all the laughs for many years.
WHEN MUSIC TOUCHES YOU'RE HEART LIKE THIS MUSIC DOES AND MEMORY'S OF LOVED ONES THAT'S GONE ON , YOU FIND YOU'RE SELF FEELING SAD,BUT THOSE MEMORY'S KEEP ALIVE AND LOOKING BACK TO THE LOVED ONE'S JOURNEY WITH YOU AS A PLUS MOMENT IN YOU'RE LIFE❤.
@@oaktreebrannon7375 Then in a twist, Margaret comes to bail him out!!! She even asks how much for the handcuffs. That lets you know she's got some plans for revenge🤣😁
@@oaktreebrannon7375 You actually have a point. Here's something that I didn't realize until years later. The Chief of Detectives, and the Vice Squad Officer were actually parodies of Columbo and Kojak respectively. I can't believe I didn't figure it out before I did. Believe you me, when I finally figured it out, I laughed so hard, my sides hurt.
Thank you Mr Ray Stevens! This brought back so many memories to my mom and me. She's 74 and I'm 50! Sweet funny memories! The streak I still sing it! Love it
Someone I was with last referenced this last night and it scratched a part of my brain I hadn’t used since I was a kid. Would watch this religiously with my grandma on a that old VHS tape he put out.
Used to watch this tape with my grandma all the time. She's been gone three weeks now. Hard to believe. I wish I could have watched this with her one more time. We used to crack up at the part when he said ''ARE YOU NEKKIDDD?''
I used to watch this at grandmas house in the early 90s. My cousins and I would play the VHS tape in grandmas bedroom and watch it over and over again. We laughed so much that our sides began to hurt. It was such a simple time with no worries. I’d give anything to go back and live again in that time of no political correctness, no internet, no social media, no iPhones. There was no boredom with lack of technology because all the simple things we did were highly rewarding and fun. It seems like after your brain is damaged by constant internet access you can never find the same pleasure in simple things again. It’s a real tragedy
Wow, almost identical to my own memories. Currently revisiting these after hearing a joke about ordering a cheeseburger in court, and remembered Ray did it first lol Hope things are well for you friend 👋
Ray Stevens is the best comic singer he's very good at what he writes what he seems his storytelling is clean and pure I'd listen to him for many many years I'm 73 years old and going strong to send to his music I love you Ray Stevens
This is hilarious. Never seen or heard of it before. My wife (who was 2 when The Streak came out in 1974, and thought this was the only song he did) has just laughed so much she has tears rolling and has pulled her (already painful) ribs again!!Just brilliant, creepy and genius rolled into one!! No cool whip here in the UK😢
Been listening to this for about 20 years and it brings back nothing but wonderful memories. It's one of our camping song traditions. We sit around the fire and listen to this and his "other classics" that Grandpa has recorded on a CASSETTE tape.
my granny and grandaddy have all of his VHS tapes and when me and my cousins were younger we would watch them all. day. long. and we never got tired of him. we always laughed at every video. i mean there was nothing else we could do cause they didn't have cable or wifi lol
I remember how hilarious this song was back in the day, but watching this again makes me realize just how much things have changed. Phone Booths - Gone, Landline Corded Phones - Gone, Crank Calling - Gone (due to caller ID). I wouldn't be surprised if some teen watched it today and said, "What? I don't get it?"
I love these silly songs! I grew up with them, but never saw the videos. Now, I am watching the videos and they are much like how I imagined them while listening as a teen, only better.
I haven’t laughed this hard in a while. Ray Stevens is the best of the best. Most of his music is original. That’s what makes him so great. A comedy genius.
This and Mississippi Squirrel Revival show off just how truly Ray Stevens is the master of the "WTF?! What just happened?!" moment. Especially at the end of this.... *shakes head*
OMG, I remember this, getting ready for school and almost everyday it played during the 1hr country music segment. I was around 13/14 and loved it. It was totally hilarious.
I love this song, so glad Randy Travis was able to sing again using Al. Think about it if you had a loved one who couldn't speak, wouldn't you be grateful to hear them talk again with assistance from Al. I know I would!!!! Much love and respect to Randy Travis 🫶🏻🙏🏻
My dad's sister was named Margaret and anytime a member of the family called her on the telephone, the first thing we always said was, "It's me again, Margaret!"
One of my many favorites of Ray Stevens he is so awesome. I remember watching him with the entire family an laughing so hard till we had tears in our eye's good times
