I went to high school with Ray. His name was Ray Ragsdale then. That was in the late 50’s. He was headed for success then. It’s been fun to follow his career.
No one can sing a comedy song like Ray Stevens. I first heard "Harry The Hairy Ape" in 1963 (?), and was instantly hooked. He also had a great non comedy song in the 70s called "Everything Is Beautiful"
I bought Ray Stevens cassette and loved it so much it wore out. My dad, who drove opposite me in the truck we drove, loved “It’s me again, Margaret”. He LOVED that song!
He’s hilarious. We used to laugh listening to his comedy, but my father used to laugh so hard he couldn’t breathe. His fave was the Mississippi Squirrel one.
I remember in the 60’s Ray would come out to Monument Records, sit down at Fred Fosters piano and play and sing all those crazy songs and all the folks at Monument would gather around and listen. Ray has a section of his club CabaRay in Nashville dedicated to my uncle Fred Foster. They were lifelong friends.

lol...i love this song. it looks like it was done in the theater he had in Branson, MO for a few years. I only live a couple hours south of Branson, so I got to go see his show a couple times. Had a wonderful time both times!
Good ole Ray......I remember when I was in grade school we watched "The Arthur Smith Show" and two guys (regular) pantomined "Ahab the Arab" and it was hilarious and I have the 45!!!!!
Yes, it's from his former Branson, Missouri theatre. It originally appeared on a 1993 VHS called 'More Ray Stevens Live!'. Ray uploaded all of the performances from that VHS and it's predecessor, 'Ray Stevens Live!', last year during the 20th anniversary of the VHS's original release. He has also uploaded the music videos that have appeared on all of his projects in the 1990s and 2000s due to the original VHS and DVD releases being long out of print. Also, select performances from his 1970 summer TV program have been uploaded onto You Tube. They're all available at his channel.
been living in the branson area since 89 . moved here with my folks from Des Moines Iowa and didnt get a chance to see Ray perform here in branson but one night in the late 90s early 2000s was in the grocery store on the 76 strip next to walmart . I was reading a magazine at the magazine stand by the back isle across from where the dairy cooler was . well here come Ray Stevens pushing a shopping cart and nobody noticed him except for me . as he got closer to the isle I was in I just looked up and the same time Ray looked over at me and in a low tone I say hi Ray . He just gave me a look like was a stocker stocking him or something ? then he just kept walking . I thought ok and went about my buisness reading then left the store . Sorry Ray didnt mean to freak you out . just a fan 😎👍✌🎶🎵
I have cowlicks and widows peaks, galore. Getting a haircut is so stressful when I have to find a new barber. I spent 29 years in the Army and have moved all over. Needless to say, it has not been easy! LOL!!
That song reminds me of the haircut I got in Albuquerque at the Flying J truck stop. I think the barber was previously a stewardess, because when I asked for a flat top she gave me a runway...with wings!
Sure, I love today's comedians, like Ron White, Bill Engvall, Larry the Cable Guy, and Jeff Foxworthy, (isn't it really weird how alike Jeff and Ray's voices are?) But Ray Stevens is someone they can learn from.
