I played with Donovan at Mother Blues in the 80’s around the same time Ray Wiley taught me the Waylon tune “Waymore Blues” which I still play. I opened for Tony Joe White a couple of years before he passed and no one was cooler!

Blessed to have come across your comment good sir I am currently working on becoming a better guitar and bass player I currently own a spectrum six string electric guitar at of which I need to restring and retune and my four string electric bass guitar is a Dean. People such as yourself and Ray Wyle Hubbard have been truly inspirational and have been a good insight to my journey for both bass and the guitar my hopes is to one day yet again start playing and own an aquistic six string guitar the best of wishes and may all of you have a wonderful holiday season and yes I'm from TX. 😎🤟

I keep Waylon in heavy rotation and Waymore Blues is one of my favorites, that and Gypsy Woman! If you wanna get to Heaven gotta D. I. .E., gotta put on your coat and T. I. E. is my favorite verse and it always made me feel like he was just ad libbing the whole song the first time I heard it. I have Waylon's Greatest Hits in one cassette deck and Wanted! The Outlaws in the other my shop stereo and it auto changes from one side to the other and then changes cassettes, back and forth until I turn it off. It drives my wife nuts but she still puts up with me. Man they don't make em like they used to. Man it sounds like you had a great time and if there is any video footage, put it up; we all want to see and hear it. Cheers!

Ray Wylie Hubbeard is so great..... Mother Blues... Wow. Loved that place back in the 70s. Ya I saw freddie king there and shook his huge hand. What a great guy and player he was. Saw rod stewart sitting in the club just haning out. Jimmy page came in one night and lit the place up. I got busted in the parking lot for weed. I was given the option to eat it or go to jail. It was yummy... lol Ah the memories

I went to Ma Blues all the time. I lived off Lemmon+Wycliff and could walk there. I'd watch greats like Stevie Ray, Bugs Henderson, Nitzinger, and on occasion Jimmy Page or Freddie King would sit in. I'd say "I'm gonna play here some day." Well, I can't remember how many times I played there. I was bass/vocals for several bands including Krakatoa, HEXX and Release. Bugs, Jimmie Vaughn and Big John O'Daniels of Point Blank would sit in from time to time. Ma's was such a cool place. Gone now.

tequila and tuinals, been down that road a few times. woke up in places I did not know where I was or how I got there nor how I was going to get back to where I started.
@jerrycohen8385
@jerrycohen8385 4 года назад
You and me BOTH! And I won't be ashamed to admit that I was liking that life for way TOO LONG! I used to get those tuinals 60 per month, and usually lost about 2 weeks out of the month.., may be why I still look so young? I sure did like that numbness,though! When the DEA cracked down, I started getting green placidyls, and they stayed in your liver ,and everything else way too long. Would burp and fart them for two weeks, then almost be straight, then the next week, just before time to get the next 'script, I swear I would start tasting them and know it was time for my next rx. The 70s&80s were going up and down so much, then they put a stop to the great duet pills , desoxyns,preludins, bi-phetamines, and came back with them as ADHD meds, and the class 2 barbituates had their punishment start with losing the great quaaludes and Parest 400s, then the Nembutals,Seconals, Tuinals, and thus came the rise of cocaine and methamphetamine (street drugs) and then the opiates took over, and everyone was dying???? Don't know what to say was worse, but I was a MUCH BETTER PERSON, AND HUMAN BEING when I was living on opiates than the Barb's, where I could wake up in my back floorboard looking up at pinetrees looking down at me, wondering where I was at and where was every body else at? If it weren't for the GOOD LORD, I woulda killed someone sooner or later, including myself. But the opiates and diet pills never had me fall asleep at the wheel and run into ditches or other vehicles the way those tuinals and quaaludes did. ONLY BY GOD'S GRACE, am I alive, and never hurt anyone else while I was barbed out AND drunk. That's a fact! But now, I am pushing 60, and TRULY NEED those miracle drugs that I used to get from dr.s when I was addicted to the highs and lows, I can no longer get them bc of me, lots of my friends, and EVERYONE ELSE THAT KNEW HOW TO GET THEM FOR THRILLSEEKING back then, I can't get the drugs I need to make my life better and have more quality. BC of the 70s and 80s, they are not writing rx's for them anymore. Opioids and the big companies that pushed them for big profits, cannot be gotten w/o an act of Congress, and I now NEED THEM LEGITIMATELY, AND I CAN'T GET THEM. IT'S a world gone crazy over drugs. I played some part of what makes them so hard to get, though I never got into any trouble for anything like Dr. Shopping or writing rxs', the folks that ruined it will always have whatever they need, bc they have MONEY AND, with money you get whatever you want or need. But I have to ADMIT, I did enough narcotics and Schedule 2 drugs, amphetamines, downers and Barbiturates, and opiates to kill the whole state of GEORGIA,. but I didn't hurt anyone else to get my rx's, or rob or kill to get them . I have legitimate reasons most of the time, I just REALLY enjoyed the feelings, nearly as much as the relief. It is a VERY DIFFERENT WORLD OUT THERE TODAY. PLEASE STAY SAFE.

Mother Blues was probably the only live music venue in Dallas that had the owner, Bill Simonson, living at the bar (upstairs, for a short while).Freddie King, Robert Plant, Paul Rogers, Zappa..etc., the local bands Nitzinger, Lightning, Brat, Toys...etc. The patrons were much like a big, extended family and the employees were as friendly as they could be. Even "Tiny" at 7'2", 348 lbs had a big heart. Hoppy (Freddie King's mgr) was a friendly, humble, funny guy. Great music, beautiful woman and no shortage of mood enhancers.
