RayCrisis is an arcade shoot 'em up from Taito, originally released in 1996. This is the third and final game in the "Ray" series, and it's also Taito's final shooting game. Now 25 years later, Taito has released complete remasters of the entire series on the PS4 and Switch.
It can be a little confusing figuring out which games to buy though. I'm playing the RayStorm x RayCrisis HD Collection, which is available for $39.99. But there's also the Ray'z Arcade Chronology, which includes RayForce in addition to these two games. That one is available for $49.99. I'd recommend getting the Chronology over this collection, because you're just paying $10 more for a super high quality port of RayForce, which is arguably the best game in the series. And as far as I know, there's nothing in this RayStorm x RayCrisis collection that lets you purchase RayForce as DLC afterward, so it's a hard sell in comparison to the Chronology. But they're all great games anyway, so the only wrong choice is to not buy either of them!
This is my first clear of this game. Normally I'll spend a lot more time learning to score well in a shmup, but this time I just didn't feel like it. So this is more of a survival oriented clear, while trying to score as much as I can along the way. This game is a lot easier than RayStorm, so you don't have to spend a lot of time practicing. That's something I appreciated coming straight off of RayStorm. This game is easier to get into, and it's awesome. I really like pretty much everything about it. It's short, fast paced, looks great, has an interesting scoring system, and I like how you can customize which stages you play, as well as the stage order. I'd like to go back to and dig in deeper some day, since I've barely scratched the surface.
Huge thanks to ININ Games for providing me with a key!
