Yes, the section with a million pirates to kill is... really bad but I would argue it does one little thing well. It makes the pirate threat more believable. If they have these kind of numbers on their side, it's no wonder they've conquered the planet.
Why? I like it. Also has one of the better tracks in the game. I personally sorta hate the shell sections cuz while taking advantage of an enemy is a damn good idea, in execution it's kinda broken, especially in The Sanctuary Of Stone And Fire, I have died plenty of times in the loop without knowing why and I seriously would have preferred more platforming in The Prison Ship and idk why this game and also 3 introduced a new vehicle for the last level that you're forced to use in the final boss. Pirate Mines is my least favorite level, it's boring and the music is too repetitive.
Fantastic video, man! It entertained me throughout and it was a lot of fun to revisit Revolution once more. Personally, Revolution is my favorite version of Rayman 2 for the features it added such as the hub worlds, but I can also see the flaws with the updated approach the PS2 game took. Great video all around! I’ll definitely be subscribing!
Yeah I can see how Revolution might be some people's favourite, it was mine for a while actually but nowadays it just doesn't click with me as much. Thanks a lot!
|27:55| I’m pretty sure someone has told you this already at some point, but yes: that _is_ the same mosquito from the first game! Also, I absolutely loved that little anecdote about your very own stone circle. It was such a sweet memory to listen to, and I was positively captivated by the lore of your former abode.
No, actually, no one's pointed that out yet! Rayman sure hit a growth spurt. The stone circle thing is definitely one of my favourite memories. I also used to run around and pretend I was Link in that garden. I even made my own swords out of tree-branches lol
@@FromHerotoZeroYT It is the same guy. In one of the levels, a teensie says that only Bzzit can take you there. Bzzit is the name of the mosquito that you befriended. I know this because I listened to the OST of the original Rayman. And the name of the song that comes on when you fight that mosquito is "Bzzit Attacks!".
@@Skia_Woodling Yes its definitely Bzzit, but I never realised that Bzzit was in R1. I thought it was just Moskito in Rayman 1, so the constant change of who's side he is on always confused me. But someone explained more recently that both Bzzit and Moskito are in R1 and are different characters and that they were meant to be different colours.
I loved this version of the game as a kid! I remember loving the hubworld and the the pseudo-upgrade system, I was also too young to care about how mediocre the combat was
I just started playing this version yesterday, after playing the N64 version a ton of times as a kid. I immediately thought my emulation was bugged out when I got to the tutorial level and couldn't shoot, despite the hint stone on the ground telling you "hit square to shoot" lmao. Definitely a bizarre change to even introduce swinging your fists as a mechanic, when you'll never use that again once you get the ability to shoot. Also very strange to make your shot speed abysmal just to put a pseudo progression system in the form of the upgrade shop. The updated visuals are phenomenal though, I love the new areas that were added and I'd say that overall makes it worth a playthrough, at least
Oh yeah, I'd say all the versions of Rayman 2 are worthy of a playthrough. The core is still Rayman 2 after all, misguided as some of the attempts at it might be lol
@@FromHerotoZeroYTthat's the thing about Rayman 2. Every version does some things right and some things wrong (except the Dreamcast which is perfect, of course), but they're all still Rayman 2, one of the best games of all time.
34:33 I always assumed he was poisoned by the pirates or something. EDIT: I saw the manual for the Dreamcast version while looking for a cdi that I could burn, and I noticed that in the character description for clark, it says something like "his main weakness is his stomach, which can be unsettled by pirate parts a little too rusty", so you were right! I also played the first bit of the DC version and there is also the "secrets of the world", where you get to see more information about the world the more lums you get. Is that in other versions? Also the king of the teensies, or maybe an impostor, no one knows, in the first level, mentions the isle of doors when he first introduces it like he should, but then in the immediate next line is still talking about "the hall".
I didn't watch this video until years later but it was nice hearing your childhood stories and I keep forgetting nowadays that region locking is a thing. Heck, in the old days some games were easier or harder depending on if you were NSTC or PAL due to the frame rate difference. It was fun hearing you read the prologue to the game, the manual really got me into reading back then! And most content creators making retrospectives forget the manual's contents. I'm surprised with all the differences that Revolution has! Edit: That house and the view is amazing, I can't imagine growing up there that looks really amazing. I'm used to parking lots, giant buildings, smog, traffic jams and people fighting in front of my house.
I tend to forget the manual myself, but I'm glad I didn't with this one! There were people fighting outside our house too, but that was me and my brother lol
@El Fachero Blue So even with all the issues with the PS2 version that basically RUIN the original game... You still consider it the best version???... I'm guessing your favorite version of Silent Hill 2 is the HD collection then...
Great video. I really gotta replay Revolution - as a kid on N64 I never got past the cave of bad dreams, then on PS2 I guess I just.. never finished this one? Later on 3DS I beat the game in a single day, which really put the childhood struggles into perspective 😂
For all its flaws, Revolution is worth playing through just to see what they changed and added, especially if you're familiar with the original, since it's such a unique version of Rayman 2 compared to the rest. Glad you liked the video, thanks for watching :)
Razorbeard boss fight has alternative second phase on PS1 where you both are flying in endless tunnel, he keeps dropping mines at you that you have to dodge while keep turning his bombs back at him. It has much better pacing than the the other version. Also his boss fight music absolutely slaps!
@@FromHerotoZeroYT Ah, but even that technically isn’t true. The N64 port had to cut corners on the quality of the soundtrack due to the old cartridge based system while the others got higher quality versions. I’m only stating this for comedic purposes, I get the fact that the soundtrack on all versions slaps! Some just slap with higher quality audio.
I dunno if I'd call this the worst... I'd say this game certainly had a lot of issues and felt different from traditional Rayman, but I prefer this over... Legends D: (please don't hate xD)
Oh yeah it's good, definitely, but for what it brings to the table compared to the other releases I do think it's at least one of the worst version of Rayman 2
I have the N64 and 3DS versions, neither are the definitive ways to play but that's why it's interesting there's different ports out there including Revolution.
For a small channel this video is very Well Done, great job. I played Rayman revolution on ps2 both as Young and now. I Agree that the ps2 version may not be the true version of the game. And when Played now I can see problems. Anyway great video, well Done edited 1+sub from me :)
An actual good handheld version of Rayman 2 would be nice. I'd say I hope Ubisoft would remake it for the Switch but we all know they gave up on Rayman ages ago
Great video for such a small channel! I played the original Rayman2 on the N64 when I was about 12 y/o. I have to say that I had my fair share of problems with a couple of the levels and I actually NEVER beat the second phase of the end boss. It was still an amazing game, though. Thanks for the video.
Loved the video, recently I just got a bunch of video essays from smaller creators recommended to me and they are great. You sharing that memory about pretending youre rayman with your own stone circle was also pretty cute
29:10 - I don't know like in other versions, but on pc pirates were moving a much more in battle and some of them have drill that they use to go underground and jump out in different place.
I think the drill thing at least is the same in all versions since they only appear at certain spots. I have a hard time imagining them moving around more since the places where you fight the pirates are usually very limiting but they might have taken advantage of the processing power and given them a better AI on PC?
The bad thing about this particular version of Rayman 2 is that it doesn't run at 60 fps like the pc and dreamcast version which btw, I used to own as a kid. Dreamcast is the best version imo. When I bought this on ps2, I was kinda disappointed that the game only ran at 30 fps despite the ps2 being the superior hardware, but that didn't deter me from having fun playing this. Never played the original n64 version because I never owned an n64. I had a ps1(Never played that version of Rayman 2, also) and a windows 98 pc growing up and my first copy of rayman 2 was the pc version, then eventually, the Dreamcast version when I got a Sega Dreamcast, then in 2001 when I got a ps2, I bought this along with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. Had a blast with both the first night playing my ps2. Good times.
I have. The thing that makes the PS1 version different is mainly that some of the content was cut compared to the other versions. What makes Revolution bad to me is the addition of unneccessary content that makes the game feel bloated. So basically while the PS1 version cut some of the content it didn't make the game feel that much worse because of it.
The ps1 version has Advantages over Revolution like You can get to areas quicker in the hall of doors and the cages Give Rayman more health and The load times are Quicker than Revolution as well. Aldo after you Beat the game you Unlock Gba version of Rayman 2.
So glad SOMEONE agrees with me. I've tried having so many conversations about this with people but always get shut down because... Hub world good. But like-- There's more to a game than a hub world. There are so many additions to this game that fundamentally break the core of the original. Along with the over emphasized combat, the shoed in progression system is easily the worst imo. Also sometimes the geometry of the world is just... jank. It was a little jank in the original, but you'll get randomly caught on seams and small bumps all the time.
I think it is saying something that even without playing other versions of the game, I thought that the PS2 version must have a lot of negative changes considering how much the game is loved by players of other versions.
@@FromHerotoZeroYT i mean the ps1 version sucks so to experience this great game i don't think it was unnecessary bc the dreamcast and N64 were all gone
I see a lot of people knock Revolution for things they claim are changes, but then I realize they're comparing to the PS1 or Dreamcast versions. I played the PC version of Great Escape originally, and some things that I've heard people criticize were definitely already in it (i.e. the rogue pirate earlier on in the Fairy Glade). I dunno, either way, I don't think Revolution is bad by any stretch. It adds a hub world but keeps portals for ease. The stripping away of abilities and putting them in a shop feels a little bullshit if you've played a different version, but adding more of a progression does make sense. And I'd say overall their changes to make things flow more smoothly improved the game. My only gripe is the addition of English voices instead of Raymanish...and making them the default. Those things are atrocious.
Personally I like the voice acting. Especially for Razorbeard, the Spyglass Pirate and the Colonel. Personally I always thought the hub world scuppered the flow more than anything.
I had first played this version at a friend's house as a kid, then completely forgot it existed until one night I randomly had a dream about a Rayman shooting blue orbs, which prompted me to dig deeper. I had always played the PC version so I was thrilled to learn of the 'extended' version of Rayman 2. Had a blast playing through this one a couple years ago using PCSX2, with the patch for widescreen and HD
I have recommended your channel to many of my friends! I love your review. I had so much nostalgia for Rayman 2, the version i played was for the 3DS version! Which is a port of the dreamcast version which is not a ideal way to play this game. Then i played this version after. And i remember pretending to be Rayman with my friends and did some kind of fan fiction.. ahh nostalgic.
22:37 ngl I remember doing something similar, I used legos to do the stone spiral thing and spin so much until i got a bit dizzy to simulate entering a portal, it was fun and then imagine the whole landscape turning into the nintendo 64/pc port portal hub
I played Rayman Revolition in German - since that's my main language bruh - but I think the German Voice acting is one of the best for the game imo. It was also better mixed up and I never had sound issues - and let me tell you I played the game over 20 times for sure. I was never really bothered by the additional combat. I liked it but I also am generally very appealed by combat in games which is why I also enjoyed all bosses. I also think Umber was a nice twist because it gives off a feeling of that he's a 'friendly' boss wanting us to progress and free the world from the pirates also emphasized by the different look like he actually is the guardian of that sanctuary since hundrets of years and the feeling of the robots trying to infiltrate that sanctuary but not progressing as much as with the others. (I hope I make sense here) I also very much enjoy the backtracking. Maybe I am influenced by my love for all Resident Evil Games on this aspect but I just enjoy going back to areas of a game where I was before, clearing everything and just revising my adventure through the playthrough so far. I never really could relate to the critique Rayman Revolution recieved because I always felt like it's better than the original. But I in general like combat heavy games with mixed paces, (optional) bonus features and backtracking. If you don't enjoy that then obviously you won't like Revolution that much. But one aspect we probably all agree on is that the soundtrack is absolutely fantastic! All in all this is a geat review with a lot of effort! ♡ I really enjoyed your inside on the game, even though I myself also think that it's definitely one if not the top Rayman game available
What if Razorbeard was once organic? I’m pretty convinced that Rayman’s ending line would be a total OH SHIT moment for sure! Update; timeframe for what I was referring to; 7:47
It kinda works in the other versions since the invincibility frames aren't too long and the enemies doesn't have too much health so they have a chance to attack you in between getting damaged. This makes it so each fight cycles between two phases, one where you damage the enemy and one where you focus on dodging. Well, it's not quiiite like that but you get the gist. Here though the later enemies in particular have way too much health and way too many i-frames so it ends up feeling kinda weird.
Rayman revolution was the first rayman game I played and absolutely loved it I've recently played the n64 version and idk think that's a better version I didn't need the hub world but I'm glad I've played both versions
It is kinda sad how this version turned out. As you said the overworld is cool, the biditank is a great boss and some other additions are good but they went overboarded with the new combat encounters, the framerate is awful and it has some other annoying things here and there, especially the chair rollercoaster being turned into an optional hard as fuck minigame to increase your health, it was so dumb. This should have been the definitive version of Rayman 2 but as it is is just a pseudo-remake that sometimes adds some great shit and others just shit.
I am nostalgic for the music on the N64. It still confuses me why they made a almost complete remake of a game that was less than a year old (1999) in the early 2000s for the PlayStation 2, while also months earlier push a downgraded version on the PS1, and give the Dreamcast a “expanded” edition based on the PC release.
And they were all wildly different. Kinda blows your mind how much they tried to milk the Rayman franchise back in the day when you consider they've pretty much forgotten about it nowadays :/
I don't know how the fuck someone would think Revolution is the best version of Rayman 2 while the Dreamcast and PC versions exist, glad to see I'm not the only sane person in the world. Highly underrated channel, binge watching your whole channel right now!
From the basic description given it should be the best, with extra features, its just that that is ignoring the extra content that drags, all the bugs, and the rearranegd or removed content.
I used to have this game years ago when I bought it from Costco Wholesale. I actually regret buying it, and thankfully, I bought Rayman 2 on Dreamcast years later to replace Rayman Revolution.
Hey, at least you eventually found the good version of the game, and if buying Revolution was the first step on the road there I'd say it was worth it lol
Revolution was a big part of my childhood as well, but that doesn't mean that it's exempt from criticism. Tbh I don't know how I got here myself, so you're not alone lol
ayo hiding the memory card is CRAZY kids are so full of spite lmaoo i love hearing about people's memories growing up with games like this.. makes me glad i was an only child and couldn't even afford the consoles lmao missed out on that whole sibling fighting stuff but it's still heartwarming to hear
Honestly I feel like I'm the only one who vastly prefers the PS1 voice acting compared to Revolution. It's not great, sure, but it has charm to it. Revolution's voice acting, on the other hand, is bloody atrocious, the few characters who had good voices before now have bad ones, and the bad voices now have abysmal ones. Coupled with the fact that, for some reason, everyone sounds like they recorded their dialogue at the bottom of a well (why the hell is it so echoey?), it's just not good to listen to. It's not even so bad it's good, it's just bad.
@@FromHerotoZeroYT Eh, for some characters I like the Raymanese, but others just sound... meh. Like, I think the PS1 Teensie voices are perfect for them.
Despite the flaws of this remake, it will probably always be my favorite just for the nostalgia alone. This game was such a huge part of my childhood and I have many fond memories of it, as well as Rayman 3. It was such a magical experience as a little kid and I remember playing it through over and over again. Man... the music almost makes me shed a tear whenever I hear it nowadays.
Personally, Rayman 2 Revolution is my overall favorite version of Rayman 2 but the Dreamcast version is a close second. If they did a remake of Rayman 2 on modern hardware I would want it to be a hybrid between the PS2 and Dreamcast versions of the game.
@@FromHerotoZeroYT the only part of the game that even annoys me is that endless pirates section thing towards the end, but I found a strategy to that section so it doesn’t bother me as much anymore.
Some people like it, but to me the hub adds nothing. I like the idea of a power up shop, or at least a way to spend lums, but they take away too much of Rayman's core moveset and place it in the Magic Well for you to buy, like rapid fire and walking fast while carrying stuff. There's more backtracking too in order to collect all the yellow lums
@@FromHerotoZeroYT I personally like the hub worlds, but they definitely can be improved but again that game is from the end of the N64, PS1, original Xbox, and Dreamcast era so the hub world not being overly populated and such makes sense. Also there are lums to find in the hubs. And also backtracking was commons in games from this era, can’t do anything about it now as it kinda already got improved in games that came out afterwards. Also I like the magic well, it makes it much more rewarding in terms of his move set to me.
Growing up with Rayman 2 on the PC I came across revolution thinking it was just a port of the game I loved as a child. At first I was confused because things weren't as I remember. This has become my favorite version, simply because of the added content. I love this game, so I can't complain about more of it, even if not all changes are for the best.
Hey, thanks! I captured it with an Elgato HD capture card. I had to force it to capture in 620x480. The footage got really janky for some reason when I tried capturing the native 576i resolution.
10:32 In other versions of Rayman 2, you have to shoot with your palm of your fist, which I think should be a secondary power, not primary, such shame!! you know what @FromHerotoZero & EVERYONE ELSE, compared or not compared to Nintendo 64 & Sega Dreamcast, the PlayStation 2 of Rayman 2 (Revolution) is NOT the worst at all. Cause they are lots of good things around the game and in the game.
Before watcing the video as it seems to be longish: My introduction to R2 and rayman in general was Revolution. I had heard about these Rayman games and only had a PS2 and bought RR when I saw it once. I played it a bit but didn't really like it and got lost in the overworld and in the levels in general. I also found the cover art a bit creepy. I later bought Rayman 1 for PS1 when I found it once to see how it compared and I think I enjoyed it a little but overall found it too hard. It's (R2) one of the many games responsible for my longstanding belief that PS2 graphics are barely better than N64 as aside from Rayman's models it looks similar in detail to a lot of N64 games. The rest were mostly shovelware I think. A lot of these games including R2 I disliked for the dragged out boring combat and what I thought to be restrictive boundaries. But I only played like the first elvel or something intitially, then more recently maybe in 2017 or soemthing I played through to the end of the cave of bad dreams I think. And just in December I played through all the levels but haven't completed 100%. I noticed on the most recent playing the visible polygon seams and a sound glitch that I don't think is my console where some sound effects like the helicopter one playing on loop permanently and the game crashing when you pause. Other games don't do that on this PS2 though my Saturn does it on all games sometimes I believe because of dry joints. I still didn't like it when I played recently, but I forced myself to keep on playing more deeply and eventually I began to like it. I think I always liked the personality of the game but it was always the gameplay i didn't like which is bad because it is a game. I think the things I didn't like were that I got confused by the hub worlds and was never sure what was a level and what wasn't which I think is the fault of specifically the PS2 version. Another problem is puzzels I could never get my head around. Like the stupid bit at the end of the bayou, or at the end of the first part of it at least I think, with the bridge, where you have to hit a switch to get it to extend towards you; I could never figure that bit out because I never saw the switch on PS2, but eventually I got it to work by accident and didn't know how, but when I played the PS1 version jsut the other day, it seemed obvious. Also, this one I think is probably shared by all other versions too other than the PS1 version: almost every time I tried to pick the path that led to a dead end to explore, rather than on with the level, I picked the less obvious one which always turned out to be on with the level. When I realised it went to the rest of the level it either doesn't let you go back or It does in which case I spend time backtracking. I actually enjoyed the PS1 version more, and that was in an emulator with a tiny digital bluetooth SNES style pad. I haven't played any others yet. I have the PC version but whatever version of windows 10 I have is determined not to let me play it. Tl,dr: I never used to understand why people like R2 so much, until I realised: they didn't play Revolution.
I think your criticisms are pretty on point. I also played Revolution first... Actually that's a small lie, I played a bit of the N64 version first, but Revolution was the first version of Rayman 2 that I completed. Honestly, if you haven't played the other versions and want to go back to it, try the N64 or Dreamcast one, they're much tighter than this horrible PS2 port lol and doesn't have cut content like the PS1 version!
There was a transitional period where some consoles went over to disc based media and others were more powerful and things like that, so they kinda had to make some changes to either fit the games on the storage medium or have the machine be able to play it. For the PS2 though I think they just added some stuff as an extra bonus to make people buy the game since it came out so close to the original.
Tbh the only thing I disliked about this version was the one thousand pirates part which was so unnecessary, the rest was fine and I had some fun with the overworld. I don't get why so many people hate the overworld, it's not that bad ALSO 42:45 EXCUSE ME? why does the credits credit someone named as "SEX-MACHINE"???????????????
I think it's because the overworld is mostly empty and forgettable and doesn't add anything special other thatn the overworld itself. Also come on, we all know that's Razorbeard
Ironically, the PS1 port has the best version of the final boss. It's totally different! I've never been a fan of the standard Razorbeard battle. It's just a pain. I much prefer the final boss of Rayman 3. Even though I've heard that's not a popular opinion.
I haven't played R3 other than the first level which I hated. But I msot definitely prefer the PS1 final boss to the other versions which are boring and tedious.
Yeah i liked the review and i can see where you're coming from but for me i still think that this is still a great game. Maybe if i had played the Dreamcast version or PC version of this game i would be inclined to agree but sadly I've played neither so I'm still standing by my opinion of Revolution being a great game,.
Some deranged Rayman 2 fan is definitely going to hunt you down for this lmao No but liking the Ps1 version is fine, a lot of people like Revolution after all
Agreed 😃 The PS1 was the first version I played so maybe a little biased, but there's a lot it does better. The voice acting is better than Revolution (in my opinion), the new areas in "The Sanctuary of Stone and Fire" are great and make the level much more eerie, new cutscenes with the mask guardians and the teensies, and you get the 2D prototype demo at the end. Lots to like, even if the shorter levels and weaker graphics are probably always going to put off the uninitiated.
I mean instea d of all the PAL troubles you could have just emulated it. I could never enjoy the PS2 version sadly. Hated the hub world and the english voice acting. The dreamcast version was the best. best framerate and loved the graphics. Also a much more streamlined powerup system. I hated having to "Unlock" them in Revolution instead of just getting them throughout the game
I grew up with both the original and revolution (I started with the pc og version), and while I think the open areas from revolution were nice the antechamber has a certain charm to it that is unmatched imho
Played Rayman 2 as my first Rayman too And one of the first PS2 games I played Absolutely love it... Still own a PAL copy of the game, played it recently, and God I was nostalgic ^^ The best version ever of Rayman 2 EDIT : Was until the conclusion to get your real opinion on the game No way you could've thought it was a genuinely bad game :p
Yeah I played al of the others and the Dreamcast version felt the best at the time. It didn't change much and improved the graphics a lot. Today for me the PC Gog version is best and I also don't like the padding of the PS2 version. I also have a soft spot for the cut down PS1 version 😋
Nice review but i spend 40min watching this video but you didn’t say even once that this game run at 30fps/25fps with a lot of slowdowns:( n64 ver run with less slowdowns and pc/dc versions runs at 60fps (michel ancel said that those are the truly og version) anyway is a good game and the additional levels and minibosses are ok
I thought I mentioned the slowdown, I remember it being pretty severe at some points, but it's been a while since I made this video so I can't remember if I did lol Thanks for watching though :)
I hate Rayman Revolution too, I’m glad I’m not the only person to share that thought. It feels like it’s adding useless junk to a fun & functional game
Hi mate, really enjoyed the vid. Was wondering if I could use a couple of clips (basically a couple of sentences where you express your opinion on Revolution) for a vid I'm making on the same game? No worries if not! Cheers
@@FromHerotoZeroYT Thanks man! So it's things like 15:38 and 41:25 (5-20 second-long clips), so basically when you talk about what Revolution added or changed compared to Rayman 2
in what way is Revolution the worst one??? i'm playing right now and i don't have any problems with it sounds like your personal problem now if you want the worst version of Rayman 2 try playing Rayman 3D heck the PC version came out with framerate issues that only fix it with patches you put
I don't get why people love the original Rayman 2 when there was that stupid machine that constantly shoots at you when you try to carry this barrel. How the absolute hell do you get past that part? I threw it in the air and punched it like Murfy said and nothing happened....
Really? I know that part can be a bit buggy, but it should work as long as you're fast enough, throw the barrel up and don't throw the barrel forwards until you're supposed to
Literally every version of the game has that segment, and it sounds like you were just playing it wrong. I distinctly remember having the same reaction when I first played, but I was just doing it wrong. I was like 7...
I will say this I prefer revolution cause of: 1atmosphere 2more bosses(and they are good one like grolem 13 or this tank) 3Hubworld You can explore the world(and not just select a level 4minigames(well some of them) 5purchasing your powers This was a nice addition cause you would have to think which power is useful Also it made collecting lums actually important Also I like that we got a rain mask(the mask you get after rescuing globox babies) It is a shame that you dont use it more often in the game So yea revolution wins Even if there are problems with it(like lagging and the pirate ambush)
That's fair, and I really like the idea of having the lums be used for something, but my issue with it is that they took away so much of Rayman's normal moveset in order to place it in the shop. I don't think Revolution is unworthy of being a Rayman 2 game, but I definitely think it could have been handled better!
@@FromHerotoZeroYT yea I can see your point about moveset I just love those type of games that you have to think on which upgrade/gun,etc you should spent your "currency" on rensponsibly I think pirate ambush could work but not like this Honestly I would put 5 pirates each with no camera monement So 5 green,5 purple and etc So 20 pirates You kill 5 pirates, another 5 spawn Rinse and repeat That is it
I mean, the PS1 & DS versions exist, so no. It's not the worst version of the game. :P I would put it in the "pretty good ways to play Rayman 2" category, alongside the 3DS port. Of course the Dreamcast version is the best one. Hm, I wonder if it would be possible to port Rayman 2 to the original Xbox. There's a Half-life 1 OG Xbox port in the works, actually.
Yeah I have always wondered how hard it would be to convert PC games for Xbox. But no one seems to care about the Xbox which is probably why it hasn't been done much. Personally I enjoyed the PS1 version of R2 more then revolution.
I think this video could have done a better job at explaining just exactly WHY Rayman Revolution is the lesser version. This video has bright spots but it didn’t remain focused. For example I don’t think you needed to spend the opening 5 minutes talking about region-locks and your brother. I just played Rayman Revolution for the first time. I emulated it with a widescreen patch, an HD texture pack, and a 60fps mod. It was very pretty but it still felt wrong. The music felt weird at certain parts and obviously the quiet voices was weird. I do agree the hub world was unnecessary and confusing
4:25 nothing in Rayman makes sense. I think they are just robots just because. I think I have read the story from the manual but quite a while ago. I definitely recognise the pictures from it and bits of the story. Ah yes, that's another thing with Rayman Revolution: the default volume settings are trash, and its ahrd to get them right too. Either you can't hear the music well in game or you can't hear the dialogue or sound effects properly which makes it hard to feel "immersed" in the game. I used to find it a bit disturbing but it went away after a while. Also I don't like the lighting on PS2. Also I was always playing on composite so most things wouldn't look good. I also haven't really played any of the mini games because I didn't get through the rollercoaster one. Also I hate Murphy and his interrupting. That always annoyed me. He is not as bad as in R3 though. Yeah, the "pest invaders" bit is awful game design and there are quite a few bits like this on PS2 that I somtimes though were glitches. Like I thought I entered the Bayou before I was allowed somehow because I couldn't finish it but I couldn't get out either without re loading the game. Actually, it wasn't the Bayou was it, just the level that has that bit in it that was put into the Bayou in the PS1 version?
The different releases are all jumbled up in my head at this point dude. I can't distinguish cut content from new content from altered content any more haha
@@culturedonnanoko According to all of what I have read on the internet, DS is like N64 asset and content wise, 3DS is based on Dreamcast, but both DS and 3DS have tonnes of bugs. Most people say both DS and 3DS is bad, DC is best. Personally I dislike the PS2 hub world but thats opinion. I prefer the hall of doors to the isle of doors as well. The PS1 version is often hated on but I would definitely not describe it as "awful awful". If you like the other versions you should play it as it has quite a few added segments to try to compensate for the removed ones, and it has extra dialogue not in the other versions. I found it more fun than the PS2 version myself but that is probably partly that I find R2 to be better the second time around. N64 isn't bad afaik, its just obsolete as it has nothing that the other versions don't, other than the better soudntrack imo. But PS2 is not good as far as I have been able to tell, and it is the first version I played. The cube thing sounds like the usual dev story trash that you hear sometimes. Is Ancel actually a programmer or just the game designer? Because that sounds like and oversimplification/exaggeration.
That's strange, you say that when you first encountered Clark, you tought that he ate a piece from a Robo-Pirate He did! In the french version of the game he says it! Since the game is made by french i guess it is the canon explanation?
@@FromHerotoZeroYT Yeah he even says that the piece he ate was a sharp bolt ("boulon pouintu" in french) When I was little I thought that the elixir repaired the damage caused by the bolt. And that... you know... the piece had been already "evacuated" (ouch)
@@FromHerotoZeroYT "That's alot of damage!" As an extra note, the french language audio mixing seemed fine to me when i replayed the game in 2019 I guess the english dub did not get worked on as much as the french one It was similar for Rayman 3, it seems like the games are made for the french language first, and then the other languages second, the lip sync is perfect in the french dub of Rayman 3 (and I find the voice acting much better too, and I normally prefer my games in english!)
Well, it's not a bad game it's just that there's too much fluff. The core Rayman 2 experience is still there although a bit diluted. I'd say try out the N64 or Dreamcast version if you can get your hands on one of them!
Revolution was the first version I played too and I did love it, and in a lot of ways I still do, but after having played some of the other versions and realized how much padding they added here I became a bit disillusioned
@@FromHerotoZeroYT Yeah i agree with you 100% im playing the PC version of rayman 2 atm and yeah it is better compared too revolution if you look back at it the hub world was indeed not needed
Did I say that? I know I said that you could shoot from the get-go in the original Rayman 2 and not punch like in Revolution but I can't remember the details around that statement
People often said Rayman 2 is better than 3 and I never understood it. Turns out I grew up with Revolution which padded the game out with so much pointless crap. You grew up in a beautiful place btw.
