A Conversation with Raynor Winn about her new book A Wild Silence. We spent a misty morning with Raynor at her home in Cornwall talking about her latest work and what it means to her both on a personal level, and as a conduit for wider issues about our relationship with the natural world.
A BridLit Shots film - camera work by Tom Hughes, edited by Tom Hughes, produced by Joanna Jacobson.
With kind permission of Penguin Random House.

'Raynor Winn thank you for sharing your life changing experiences with us and I so hope you will not let the ink dry.' I shared as part of a review then BINGO was delighted that you did not let the ink dry, have ordered 'A Wild Silence' The Salt Path by Raynor Winn In the autumn of 2020 I was at The Salvation Army charity shop in Nunhead, never disappointed in my quest for books, one of the dedicated volunteers shared with me, 'Michael if you want to be inspired I do recommend The Salt Path' making a note and thanking the lady for the recommendation, I then popped into the bathroom for a call of nature, then glancing up at a shelf laden with books, low and behold there was the book. Dear volunteer I want to thank you for one of the best book read recommendations of my sixty two years. From the first page I was hooked, a true story of despair and pure joy, never has a book provoked so many emotions from laughter to by the end buckets of tears. Raynor and Moth lost literally everything except love for each other, if you have not picked up a book, yes a real book for years I implore you to read The Salt Path. If you have had a tough 2020, if you want to be uplifted, if you want to experience every possible emotion, to never judge homelessness by it's cover again, then buy this book. If you are not turned into an emotional wreck in a very positive way by the end of this epic I will give you a refund. Like myself I wonder how many reading this book will be inspired to drop everything and to set off on a walking wild camping journey without the constraints of 'normal' Raynor Winn thank you for sharing your life changing experiences with us and I so hope you will not let the ink dry.

I have just finished reading Landlines and like Raynor on her what she felt was last journey I didn’t want it to end. How she draws life and breath to her thoughts and puts into words was exhilarating, what a journey, what courage and what an understanding of life itself, I walked the trail with her and Moth and loved every minute though I am emotionally exhausted. Thank you Raynor, I believe you have given me a lift in life, I hope to write a book about my son who died of Cancer but his story is special very much like your story one of grit determination giving hope and belief to all around, I just hope I can do it justice, if I can get any where near to the excellence of her writing I will be so pleased. Read the book Landlines it will change your life forever, I now need to squire the salt path to gain more inspiration it seems.

Thank you Raynor. I am ashamed that when I read ‘The Salt Path’ I was cynical but now I find it from your heart and I am learning things new and finding someone new.

The book is LOVELY and has been given me peace during my own tumultuous time...not as sharply desperate of a health crisis and homeless...but my husband and I have been quite near that position of - our financial income is gone due to layoffs, now what and where. But, Raynor, I am not as brave to let go completely...you and Moth were SO BRAVE to just go. I wish I could purchase the rights to the book or be in collaboration with you on a film about this visceral experience the two of you were transformed by (caterpillar to butterfly). BTW...totally see Kate Winslet playing you...Rhys Ifans playing Moth. You both are lovely! Sending thanks for the book!

I wonder where Raynor is originally from? I loved the 'Salt Path' and I am currently reading ' The Wild Silence ' I love the way that she beautifully describes nature and the environment. We are all part of nature. I couldn't agree more, but we must respect it too.

God what an awful self-entitled woman. I adore the SWCP but this was truly one of the worst books I've ever read.

@@turkeyphant You are no doubt related to some of the judgemental, unpleasant people encountered in the book, in real life and on the internet. Very sad.
