There is also an option to control the zones of the mini LED software in the synapse software, but the ASUS option still provides an additional mode.
I got the same one, I rather have this than the 4K. That mini led 2,000 dimming zones & over 1000 nits is gaming changing on a 18 inch. I can’t go back to standard IPS. It’s another channel that has a mini led model, but claiming to his viewers he got the 4K. When it’s obvious 2k; 2560x 1600. Plus the screen wouldn’t be that bright. Razer even stated that 4k model won’t come out until summer. Also the mini led & 4k model cost the same just in different colors.( Only three configurations in the 4090) Silver will get you 4k model with a 4090, at the same price as the mini led- 4500. Black 4k 4090 18 is 4800= So the extra 300 you pay for is the extra 32ram & 2 SSD. So, I figured the 4k is not what it’s hyped up to be, if not Razer would definitely priced it more. I took the 64gb from my 16inch and threw it in my Razer 18, along with my SSD. Feels good to run at 5600mhz. The ram and SSD you can buy for yourself. Anyways, great video as always bro.
You can control the Mini LED dimming zones in the razer synapse software. Not sure why this wasn't researched beforehand because this review has incorrect information in regard to panel brightness.
@@lewisgarland1259 depends on your needs, i cant stay in 1 spot so i would rather have a laptop...the problem is buying the 4070 for 3k when you can get a 4080 legion 7 on sale.
@@lewisgarland1259 Not really. The 4080 and 4090 laptop are actually quite impressive, with the 4090 having the performance of a 4070 Ti Super. If you travel, it's perfectly valid to buy a laptop that will outdo the performance of the last-gen pinnacle models and will almost match a desktop 4080.
If true what Razer says on their website, "Thunderbolt 5" implementation on this laptop is a joke, bordering on scam. It could be called out as fake Thunderbolt 5. Power provision MUST be minimum 140W if Barlow Ridge controller is used, as Intel says this in the spec. Plus, Intel's TB5 presentation reads that there should be DisplayPort 2.1 signal supported on such cutting-edge interface, and we can see only DP 1.4 at 32 Gbps, instead of DP40 or DP80 Gbps. It's another discussion that VESA does not mandate UHBR signal on DP 2.1... The problem here is Nvidia's 4000 cards that do not support DP 2.1 standard. Does then iGPU deliver DP40 or DP80 signal if Intel's Heyden Bridge retimer is used with the same USB-C port? If not, we have a serious problem with entire ecosystem of public communication about Thunderbolt 5, its minimum requirements regarding power provision, DisplayPort 2.1 signal bandwidth and implementation of the spec in devices. Please challenge Razer on this, write them email and request to clarify to the public why such suboptimal TB5 solution was offered to customers. Thank you for the review.
Do you think it's better to wait for the 5000 series laptops to come out at this point if you've got a 3000 series one? I don't think the current 4000 series prices are worth the money with the performance boost they give.
Depends. The 4090 laptop crushes anything from the 3000-series, and I've seen them as low as $2,200. It's probably another 6-8 months until we even see the 5000 series release, and they're going to be very expensive. And don't expect a 5070 to match a 4090 laptop. We saw with this generation that the 4060 and 4070 are not that much crazier than last gen, and you need to go to 4080 and 4090 to see the big performance jumps.
@@ErinxhI completely agree, other than the 4090 the laptop releases have been really disappointing this generation, in desktop a 4070 outperforms the most powerful and expensive 3090 at half the price, but on lapotp a 4070 and 4080 are still similar in performance to a 3070ti and a 3080ti respectively, at twice the pricetag, not been a good year for laptop users...
Just bought the Blade 15 (2023) with the 4070... waited long enough for a newer one! Updating the RAM and SSD and it should be good for the next years... but this new one looks nice also!

I loved my acer predator 18 with mini led, I like it better than my main screen lol, but sent it back because new laptops at the end of the year with 15th gen cpus and 5080, these laptops just aren't worth the price! If I can't get oled I will find one with mini led because I almost couldn't tell the difference and was beautiful! We shall see if no hypthreading helps in 15th gen, from what I understand it created more heat in mobile chips and what is a big offender to making our laptops thermal throttle and then causing micro stutters in game. I really hope the boosting activity gets reworked because frequency constantly changing due to the thermal limits also made or contributed. It was only when I limited power of the cpu to 50-65w I would get a stable clock of 4.1-4.3ghz and if I didn't power lock the cpu and let it do whatever it wanted, it would slam the cpu with 120w and hit 90c causing clocks to be all over the place, big frame pacing spikes (stutters). Also for the people ordering the 5080-5090 I really hope the give use more heat pipes, I mean if it's almost 10lbs who cares about few more hundred grams! I want performance and shouldn't have to power limit my cpu to correct frame pacing issues! Give me a chunky performance monster, I don't care about a slim pretty thing, you are cutting the balls off our machines!
Letterboxing caused by 16:10 sucks in media playing but for competitive gaming 16:10 is almsot always better, bigger things on a bigger screen makes things like aiming easier.
@@ephemeralburb Have you seen any 16:10 gaming monitors? Many games dont support it or you will play with black bars and less fov? It all depends if you are really competitive or just casual
Jarrod, can you give recommendations for 4070 laptops? yes i saw your video about 4070 x 4080, but in my country a 4080 is 70% expensive, so is a no go for me... Thank you in advance
That means they released the USB 5 port means this is good news because maybe next year or two other devices will get new parts means we can get external graphic card and get better performance
I think they actually upgraded the speakers on the new 2024 model. The woofers look way larger compared to the 2023 Version, but I wasn't yet able to find a sound test.
I just got my 2024 Blade 18 and can confirm the audio is much improved. However, it's still inexcusable that it cannot even come close to the audio I get from a 4-year-old MacBook Pro. So, unfortunately, it's still a bit of a disappointment.
I see alot of good laptops with similar performances for less than 1600$ on amazon so as a console gamer all my life can someone tell me if getting a gaming laptop is worth it or should i save for a pc and how much would i be looking to spend for a pc with good specs
I have very high hopes regarding thunderbolt 5 and egpu. I would buy something like 16" with 4070 onboard and thunderbolt 5. With some desktop egpu, like 4800, at home sound like perfect deal for me.
No sorry, 2 reasons. First is it's honestly not enough of a difference to justify a video, but the main reason secondly is they are unlikely to send it to us for the same reason. If we ever did get it, all I'd do is upload the screen results to jarrods.tech/gaming-laptops-with-best-screens/
Hello! Please tell me what power does the RAZER BLADE 18 2024 CPU and GPU have in the Silent and Balance profile? And also what is the noise level in them? In review GizmoSlipTech Asus Scar 18 4090 with Mini Led Display (model 2024) The CPU outputted ~40-50W and the GPU outputted ~150W in Silent Mode and was incredibly quiet. BUT in other reviews (like on your channel in the Scar 18 4090 model (in the 2023 model), the CPU produced ~35W and the GPU produced ~55W in Silent Mode Ultrabookreview had the same data as you for the 2023 model. That’s why I’m clarifying everything about Razer. Thank you in advance.
Mine is a good laptop and runs great, but they won't give a better keyboard way too small also for the laptop looks out of place. But it's still a good laptop. If they improve the keyboard, I might think of buying it again.
I’m torn between a Razer Blade 16 2024 4080 OLED and a Razer Blade 18 2023 4080 (Mercury). Based on this video I’m really inclined to go for the Blade 18 based on its strong performance compared to the newer models but overall heard amazing things about the OLED over the regular IPS panel. Any insight?
its strange why you dont test thr games with their max ultra settings as all of these gpu’s from 4060 to 4090 are fully capable to run those. the gpu performance difference is better visible at ultra rather than high settings which could be run by even a 4050.
Hey jarrond. I am looking to get an external monitor for my gaming laptop (MSI GE76 12UE-456), and I was wondering if its safe to keep the laptop upside down?
Only the widespread (by default) use of water cooling will save gaming laptops (with discrete gpu) from degeneration and loss of interest For CPU only, yes, massive air cooling enough for open half potentional without screaming
Something is def wrong with your testing on the panel brightness. In DGPU mode I get almost 1300 nits on this laptop. This guy is a such a poor man only Asus fanboy
I think the blade 18 with 4080 for $3699 may be the best value. And because it has the thunderbolt 5 port, you can always purchase an eGPU down the road to boost performance with an external monitor.
My only worry is whether the CPU gonna be enough for AAA gaming in a couple of years. We already see it's struggling compared to the more power efficient 7945HX and 7945HX3D. You may change the GPU with eGPU but with the CPU... you're stuck.
Hey man, I had a doubt regarding dual channel memory. I bought a laptop with 8 gigs of single channel ram, and I was thinking of adding another stick of 16gigs of ram to make a total of 24gb ram for now (so that if I want to upgrade the 8gb stick to 16gb later, I'll have a total of 32gb). But I'm not sure if the Dual Channel still applies upto 16gb out of the 24gb... Could you confirm which one would be a better option, +8 or +16 gb ram?
Dual is always done with 2 of the same ram sticks, so I believe you want to get the second stick of 8gb or 2 sticks of 16gb and make sure they are dual channel!
I just got the blade 18 and apparently their build quality is so horrible that you get a black screen of death and behold mine did the same thing. Returned it and got an acer. Honestly don’t know what I was thinking getting a Razer Laptop anyway lol. Plz stay away from Razer laptops peeps lmao
is a good laptop but Razer will not change that keyboard its terrible small one the mouse pad is large. The lapt top it self rund good and smooth and simple
... incredible. The ASUS Scar 17 (2023) is still at the top of the charts (May 2024) and I bet it will stay there for a looong time. It really does not make much sense to buy a new laptop in 2024 unless you get some huge discount on the 2023 version. Buying a 2024 version of any laptop does not make sense at all.
somebody assist me, looking for mointor for a gaming laptop to pair with the legion 7 2021 i was look at 180 hz then realised that oi the highest fps i hit hs 115 plus and 1440p like 75 80fps so i was wondering do i just need to get 144 hz screen pair with the laptop so that i can get close to that refresh rate because 165 hz and 180 hz would be wasted because it cant hit that refresh rate. Am i wrong or wrong need help
@@shinobi3383 There is a rumor saying that RTX5080 is coming out this year. When RTX 5080 comes out, the price for RTX 4080 laptop will definitely drop down. This is the game Nvidia plays every year. I would wait if I were you.
@@shinobi3383 The main reason why you should choose RTX 4080 instead of RTX 4070 is the vram. RTX 4070 only has 8GB while RTX 4080 has 12GB vram. The vrams are very important for future gaming.
This is what I want to see. I'm done with gaming laptops now, but what I want to know is how well Thunderbolt 5 runs. I want a handheld gaming device like a Legion Go 2 or Steam Deck 2 docked to a TB5 eGPU - like a superpowered Switch.
@user-ds8rj2vc4v yeah dude the convenience of not having to carry around a 2.5kg laptop is just something else . Zenbooks are like 1 kg . If they could pull that off it would be awesome . It's not like it needs that much cpu cooling anyways . It's mostly like 50w which is not that high. Also you're good about future proofing as well . You just sell the 4090 and buy a 5090 (assuming there's not a cpu bottleneck)
Jared, I am surprised you didn’t notice or comment on the screen issue that is affecting 18” Blades with mini-led. If you click on the multi-zone setting the screen becomes darker with grey whites, contrast suffers, and blooming is horrible. This has been reported by several people on Reddit. Most likely you were testing the computer in single zone w/out activating all the zones. Try the multi-zone option and you will see the issue.
At 11:25 it's mentioned everything else is much the same. You can refer to the 2023 review for temps: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-c2cgs-w0Q9M.html
Hi Jarrod. Your cpu scores are much lower than what I’m getting with the same configuration. I tested on custom with the one click overclock but got similar results in turbo. Any chance you had a dud?
For all those complaining about these ridiculous prices I would suggest that you redirect your anger to action by waiting a bit and getting an AMD gaming laptop which will be nearly as fast at half the price. This sort of price gouging happens every time competition gets choked-off.
@@hanudeepkumar9066 would be surprising if anything changed but they added to Ryzen Mobile 7000 series „only“ AI capabilities. It is like Intel‘s 13900HX vs 14900HX which is the same chip with different name. There was no underlying node change, so the battery life improvements would be only coming through vendor‘s optimisations in software and other hardware. On AMD side the real change will be Zen 5 and before that, dont expect any major boost or change.
@@AlexCS8good luck turning on the PC if a power outage happened if that's your argument. Laptop has become so much better without charging in , couldn't say the Same about PC without plug in.
I think no one does. Everyone just waits for a sale. I stumbled across a 2020 Blade 17 in 2022 on sale for 60% off, presumably because no one was buying it and they had to get rid of the stock. It's a great laptop for the price I paid. I would've preferred the Blade 14 size but the bargain was too good for me to ignore!
I bought the 2023 blade 18 4090. After selling my 5900x and 4090 desktop. Reason..... I'm selling my apartment and living in a truck. The 4090 18 blade was what I chose for most performance with little power draw.
