i don't need a smart controller, i need a strong controller doesn't break 2021/01/13 update: for the past 2 years , i switched to pc with mouse and keyboard and so far nothing breaks ,,,, also because i wasn’t using my controller a lot it was able to survive. note:after using xbox one controllers for the past 5 years,, i found out that the controllers with skins and AUX hole is way durable than the regular black xbox one controller ,,, the skin one’s 100% worth money, the regular one’s is trash and waste of money.
The elite doesn't need batteries, if you play wired and it can use a play & charge kit. No batteries have ever touched my elite. The reason it's heavier, is because of the build quality. It's 100% metal! The Wolverine is just plastic...
@sam griffin Naaah it's too expensive, i saw a refurbished razer wolverine, might give it a try. I normally use a nacon revolution 2 for pc, but the razer seems kinda cool too
I still don't why Sony has not improved their controllers. Xbox is on top right now when it comes to their controllers. Edit 2 years later: So I am sorry for the ruckus I caused here lol. Just want to say I love PlayStation and their controllers design. I actually prefer the DS thumbstick layout but the Xbox Elite controller takes the cake for me. It is just better than a regular controller. Me personally DS > Xbox but Elite > all controllers
Samster Birdies now ur talking out of ur ass. It's been said by countless RU-vidrs, reviewers and not to mention 90% of average consumers that the Xbox has the best controller design. I have a ps4 and sold the original as soon as razor came out with the Xbox designed ps4 controller. Best purchase ever made
I'm intrigued. With those extra extra buttons on top, I can customize those buttons on Apex Legends so I don't have to take my thumbs off the analog sticks.
Don't get why the controller being wired would be a deal breaker. I keep my controllers plugged in at all times as is, so I wouldn't notice a difference.
Matt DuGuay I know right. People shouldn’t complain and if you are gonna play on a level that you want a controller like this than you shouldn’t be playing on a couch.
I mean, after my 360 and ps3 constantly needing the controllers recharged every like 3 days i decided to go wired to avoid have the recharge/change battery message all the damn time.
Don't get how anyone can tolerate the lag of wireless peripherals. I get like 1 sec of input lag on a default ps4 controller, and like 1.5 secs on a standard xbox when using them wirelessly.
How does nobody mention in any review except this one just how amazing the ABXY buttons are on the ultimate. Those buttons are amazing and so much easier to press than any other controller's abxy buttons. Even the tournament edition buttons are not the same. If you are debating between the ultimate and the tournament edition from razer, the ABXY buttons are 10x better on the ultimate than the tournament edition.
there are many controllers that have less input lag in wireless mode, including the ubiquitous ds4: 10ms via usb cable. don't believe me? good, look it up.
For 2 years of usage - no one of the Wolverine Ultimate survived more then 8 month. Now I'm in process of the replacing of 3rd (!!!) gamepad with same issue "RT-button sticking". I'm fan of the MK11 player and RT-button is very important in this game :D. In all 3 broken gamepads after 6 month RT-buttons starting to sticking: you press button - game character go into block stance, you releasing button - game character release block stance with some lag, or even continue to be in it. Additional issue: each model of the same controller reacting on the D-Pad different in compare with previous. Each time you have to change finger moves from zero.
Thanks to you, I ordered my Razer controller this morning. Thanks for going over everything, had no clue the controller was strictly wired but Im 100% okay with that, I prefer it honestly, switching batteries is a hassle.
I mean wired is actually more beneficial than wireless because if it’s wireless there would obviously be some input lag and probably a delay, you know, like less feedback when you are pressing buttons and stuff, it also needs to be charged after some time. For the wired ones, no delay, no lag, and definitely no need to charge and it also gives a better feedback or response since it is wired, if you know how to keep your wire organized and not get in your way, I don’t see why it is a how breaker.
I have the tournament edition of this controller. Amazing controller, missing a few of these features, but other than that it is the same. The fact that the controller is wired is great in my opinion because wired controllers get less input delay, plus I don't have to worry about it dying. The cable is super strong, the design of said cable is flawless. I have owned mine for 14.5 months and I can still use minimum deadzones, despite having played with this thing and average of 6-7 hours a day. The only problem I have is that for the tournament edition at least, and someone who has had the ultimate for a while, let me know if you've experienced this too, but some buttons will start to give double inputs. This only started happening to me after 10 to 12 months of owning the controller though, so the only thing that would keep me from ever buying this controller again, is if Astrogaming started making controllers for the Xbox One.
Literally same problem with mine. The RB double clicks so if you face any problems with this expensive controller outside of the warranty period, ur basically screwed. Also their are barely any videos on how to take this thing apart and fix buttons
So with the M5 and M6 adjustments you could change them during the game right as you're running around have it more agile and then when you're ready to fire or fight have it more precise change back and forth as you go right
It's a half-assed mixamp on the bottom of the controller. This would be OP if it was the standard xbox connection for headsets as I can use my own plugable mixamp.
It is, everyone who plays comp games on console either uses a scuf or some other sort of controller with paddles/buttons on the back. MLG and many other companies who host events allow them.
Great review, thanks. I don't mind the wired aspect, I play fighting games where it helps also. I have an elite controller but has stick drift and at a cost of $100 to ship it off to a third party to repair I might as well pay the bit extra and buy one of these.
Dont even care about the controller now... Saw the eagles shirt and im sold! #Wentzylvania. But forreal, nice in depth review man! Glad someone takes the time to give an honest unbiased review.
Well, my second M$ Elite shit out... I'm so pissed off. I had a Razar Onza for 360. It was a superb device that also suffered a couple fatal design problems initially. Razar's method of setting things right with a customer who recievedva faulty device was: cut the cord close to the controller and text a pic to customer service showing the back plaque with the serial number and the severed cord. By morning I had a factory new Onza on my doorstep, no questions asked and no money out of my pocket. And it happened again with the same rapid, dedicated response from the Razar service department. I'm more than confident in the quality of their products and promise to make it right at any expense. The particular issue behind the onza problem is unique to the feature they were exploring with it and I can't imagine that they're stuff has been anything but improved since. And the mouse click feature that has become Razar's calling card can not be overstated. It makes using old fashioned buttons feel drastically outdated and inferior. That 1/1000th of a second difference between a perfect strike and getting teabagged at 4am by some shitty little runt on Fortnight. Couldn't find a Wolverine when my last elite broke... actually I don't think it had been released yet, so I had to spend the money on something I knew would self destruct. I'm getting old and arthritis is a bitch. I NEED the flexability and customization of these things to play at all. So far from an extravagance, I have no choice but to invest in something that I can use. I don't know how many years I have left before my thumb and metacarpals are a mass of ground up bone dust in a skin glove... or perhaps fused solid. Young fucks laugh it up while you can... decades of gaming is a life well lived but I finally understand whe old people always seemed so pissed off when I was younger. Everyone is condemned to watch our youth and viggor wane and the world we were convinced we could be the first generation that's not doomed to repeat the silly mistake of getting OLD. I remember being 22, tripping balls and rolling my ass off on some amazing E, having a three way on the floor if the bathroom with two beautiful, dirty girls and looking in the mirror thinking "This is what it feels like to transcend mortality... but it was just the drugs and even the thought itself was fleeting because it was cut short by a rusty trombone... my point is. Everything we enjoy. The people we love most. The times that seem to border on transcendental... they are gonna be gone before you get a chance to say goodbye. Then you'll be living in a motel room after your wife goes bonkers and gets you charged with felony contempt of court. Playing a game to distract you from the existential angst of middle age and POP! Controller busted. No replacement and soon you're typing some frazy rant on a youtube chanel wishing you could find the reset button for life. But that would suck too... imagine going back 25 years and having to wait for widespread adoption of the internet, 3D gaming, smartphones, 4K HDR TVs, DLC, Game of Thrones and Walking Dead... living through the death of the grunge movement. The shit we have now is amazing but its beginning to outpace my ability to keep up and i feel like a dottering, crippled old man, telling everyone who walks past my park bench about the good old days and feeling left out of the world you know. I remember when Street Fighter 2 came out. Arcade I'm talkin about. Lines longer than rails of coke at a Whitesnake concert. The rows of "next" quarters lined up across the ledge of the marquee. See... sounds crazy.
I just bought a wired controller for different reasons. In this case I wait for the Elite 2. Wire only and plastic instead of rubber is the actual deal breaker.
Interesting, you are the first person I've heard refer to a third party controller being alot lighter a pro instead of a con. Kinda a neat perspective shift, thinking about it beings better for use over long hours
Considering I’ll probably never pick up a new Xbox console, I really appreciate that Razer made a high end wired controller. I want to pick one up for Halo and Forza 5 on PC.
I bought this to help me learn how to snipe (I really suck at it). It seems that the "Focus" function may help me out but I cannot, for the life of me, how you guys change the button layout and actually play!! I tried it and I'm constantly pushing the wrong one!! Maybe someday I'll figure it out.
fictiondic I literally almost wore that same shirt today but opted for my Ertz shirt instead! Would've been hilarious to randomly watch a video and see a guy wearing the same shirt. Super Bowl champs!
$150ish for something like this is a steal. When you look at the extra engineering to cram all of those extra controls into an already finished product isn't easy or cheap. And the dedicated software cost money to develop.
Don't buy the razer if your playing chill games like GTA or others. The buttons are more of a click and let go not click and hold. And the bumpers have a issue where nothing happens until you push them harder Use this controller for games like cod and FPS
Nice review 👍 Seeing as you have both controllers can you by change tell me if the “standard” Elite snap on sticks fit on the Wolverine, the thing that kept me from buying Razer in the past has been the lack of possibility to use KontrolFreeks with it, if the elite sticks indeed fit that would eliminate the problem :)
I have to say I've used ever razor controller that has come out over the years and this one looks like the best one yet! They've improved from the last model(Razor Sabortooth) for the xbox, which honestly I'm not a fan of despite me being a huge razor fanboy. Also the build quality on these razor controllers in my opinion is Second to non. Overall I love what razor has done and the improvements they've made. I'm definitely picking up a Razor Wolverine this holiday season!
BTW everyone who complains that it's wired probably has never been apart of a legit competitive tourney because everyone who's played competitively know that wired is the way to go which these controller where made specifically for competitive gamers in mind so if you have a problem with that then just don't buy it.
I wanna get this because i had my elite for 2 years and its dying but honestly the power a fusion is wayyy better EDIT: My left analog stick is dead now, It spins around as if i was spinning a fidget spinner. Any good cheap elite controllers i could buy?
If you really want to step up your game, yet you don't want a pc (for some stupid reason), then get the Keymander and you can use mouse and keyboard on your console.
For me the placement of the "paddles" on the razer seems poor. The elite controller has them perfectly placed and on the razer it seems like youre reaching for them /or have to hold the controller in an unnatural position.
The wolverine is leagues better than an elite controller for fps gamers who are serious about getting an edge on others. The two front buttons are exclusive to Razer (just because nobody else does it) and the underside placement is natural and using them doesn't alter your grip even at high sensitivity. As for the wired connection, that's a benefit for anyone gaming for long sessions or frequently. With wireless my controller could desync between sessions, the battery could just not charge, by the 5th hour my battery might die (8+ hour sessions used to be normal in the summer) and yes, latency too. Now that I play PC it's a zero headache swap between PC and Xbox. No using some Xbox app for the controller or using Bluetooth. It has on board memory as well so all buttons will stay as you bound them.
If this controller is used with a wired headset the headset will make a continual buzzing noise through the mic if you speak. It is a pretty annoying that I paid $150 and had to return it because there is no fix for that.
It would have been nice if they had a secondary ultimate version where they removed the 2 extra triggers that are taking up room for the battery and make it wireless, then it would definitely be worth the money
I like how it’s wired because it gives the controller better connection and if this thing was wireless it would probably get only 2 hours of battery life
In my opinion, wired controllers are better than Wireless, you don't have the risk of having your controller turning off if the batteries get too low when you are playing a Ranked match. When you using a wired one,it wont turn off until you pull off the cable or break it. I Liked it ;)
I bought a regular Xbox 1 wired controller for PC. I can say this about Razor products: They don't last. I had 2 mice and both were shot in about a year. I will NOT buy another razor product again therefore this controller is out of the question.
If you’re undecided whether to get this or the Xbox Elite, GET THIS!! The build quality is far superior. I’ve owned 6 Elites and every single one broke. One was even broke right out the box. This controller is leagues better. And has more features. The only downside is it’s wired. But It’s well worth it over the Elite. Maybe Microsoft will make them more durable in the next generation. Also the analog sticks feels so loose on the Elite. I tried using my Elite after using the Wolverine and it was the first thing I immediately noticed.
Will this break after 3 weeks of use, like the Microsoft Elite controller? Because I like my $150+ controllers to have the same expiration date as my cereal.
Bought this controller. Didn't like it at all and returned it here's why: -Doesn't integrate into synapse, you cant create macros with this like you can with literally any other razor product. Since Synapse isn't integrated, if you want your LEDs to match your mouse/keyboard/Tartarus/Philips Hue Bulbs/whatever else, you're going to have to open its proprietary software and do it for a second time for the controller. -Frank didn't even mention this but the D-pad feels awful to press, it requires almost twice the pressure of the ABXY keys on the right. -I gave it 3 days and 30+ hrs of gameplay, but the extra buttons on the top and back are just too intrusive, they get in the way and effect you more than they help. The only way I found any use was to just replace the ABXY keys entirely and move them to the bottom, which felt more correct for the controller, but unlike anything you've trained your brain to use from decades of gaming. -It's 2021, really no wireless capabilities? Sure give me a wire to use when my battery is dead. C'mon, this is a $150 price tag here. -Maybe this last part was a defect but the molding seam on the back follows the grip up to the right bumper, for mine this wasn't aligned and it left a 1-2cm sharp edge where they matched up. After a couple hours this would dig into my index finger. This is definitely not $150 quality. Overall, even as a Razer fanboy, I cannot with good conscious recommend this controller. To me it just felt like a poorly made third-party microsoft controller and some rainbow puke LEDs slapped on it to upcharge the device an additional $100.
i got an elite 2 because of good reviews, as a ps4 long time player, i did not like it at all, 180 dlls for a controller with stick drift out of the box, could not play games with low deadzone, however with the dualshock 4 the stick did not drift at low deadzone, also hate the weight and the location of the arrows, someone wants my seminew elite series 2 controller, i give it away for like 120 dlls .
6:19 im not arguing or saying your wrong but personally I like the wire because I've had to many times where my controller dies on me while playing and I am used to game systems with wired controllers
How do you turn up game chat and have voice chat turned down where you barely hear the people talking...? There isn't a volume up and down for that. Its just one button
what puts me off buying some gams on xbox is the d pad, its horrible i was gonna buy crash trilogy on xbox one, but i know that clicky d pad will be an issue. ps4 d pad is nice but its hurts my thumbs. this here looks decent.
Idk if mine was defective or not but barely had mine for a month and the left bumper started malfunctioning. It’s very frustrating and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone
