I completely disagree on the 4 back buttons. It's completely the other way around for me. I can easily reach the top 2. The bottom 2 feel unnatural. I basically have my middle fingers on the top 2 at all time now. I use the left one for crouching and the right one for jumping, and the bottom 2 for some extra shit you don't need to use decisively with precision, like switching grenades or opening a weapon wheel. Stuff like that. What truly sells this controller to me though, is what sold the Tournament Edition to me too, and that's those 2 extra buttons next to the bumpers/triggers. My god are those amazing. I always put reloading and switching weapons on those and in RPG's, interacting with NPC's and picking up loot. I can't go back to a controller without those buttons now. Everyone is hyping up the DualSense 5 but whenever I'm playing on my PS5, I'm like god, I miss my extra buttons 😂
I just got my new V2 Chroma and WOW! This feels so much better than the Wolverine Ultimate! The grip feels more solid and slip-proof in my hands, the buttons and triggers feel more responsive and the build quality in general seems more solid. This is the first controller I've used that has a noticeable improvement in feel and function, and very much so at that! I remember when I first switched from a standard XBox controller to the XBox Elite, and then from the Elite to the Wolverine Ultimate. Neither of those felt noticeably different to me from the standard controller, aside from feeling a little more solid in construction. The Wolverine V2 Chroma, however, surprised me at just how stark an improvement it is.
My ultimate died after 11 months 😪 so razer are replacing it with the new chroma as there's no ultimates in stock, I was a little worried but your comment has eased my mind 👍
My old wolverine ultimate's trigger broke, so I hope the quality of these new controllers is better. That issue seems to be addressed in your video. Thanks for uploading this. Love the format and quality 👌
My most used trigger is starting to loosen up. It still functions but I have to press it at a more flat angle on my TE. Other than than I absolutely love this controller. Watching these reviews bc I’m debating just buying the TE again. It’s on sale too
I've had the razer wolverine ultimate for a year now and it's the best controller I've ever used. To me one of the biggest downsides on it are the trigger stops which give a bit more pull than I would like when it is engaged. It seems like that still might be the case with this controller as well. This new controller is missing a built in adapter that comes in really handy if you ever want to switch profiles, adjust your volume or mute your mic, and also change a button on the fly. I was really looking forward for the new wolverine for next Gen but doesn't seem like it's worth the upgrade at all.
The past Wolverine controllers had a critical flaw: The rebound M buttons can only work ONE at a time so if you press more than one at the exact same time it can cause inputs to be skipped or the button to act as stuck/pressed until it's re-pressed. Most people just probably don't notice since exact timing of multiple buttons at once is not going to be common. This means I can't for example use it in a rhythm game where hitting 2-4 buttons at the same time is common, that's an extremely high chance of the button timing being exactly the same and skipping an input or getting stuck inputs. Do these newer ones have the same problem? I assume they're just using the same chip so the problem remains.
I just purchased the ultimate and don’t have this problem at all. I play fighting games where you need multiple inputs on the paddles and this has never happened once
Victrix gambit is the best controller of all time. No current controller comes close to the performance. If anyone is looking for a new controller, go and get yourself one. Trust me, you will not regret it
I switched to the Wolverine Ultimate after I had 2 XBox Elite controllers break in about a year or less. The Wolverine lasted almost 3x as long for me. While I have suspicions it may just be the cable, my Wolverine Ultimate died this morning after 2 years & 8 months of use, and I ordered this one (V2 Chroma) to replace it. The deal breaker for me is the extra buttons. I LOVE the extra M1/M2 buttons on the front! I map them to take the place of pressing in on the sticks, and it makes for much better control with running toggle in FPS games. As for the added switches underneath, I use my ring and pinky fingers for them, which allows for more natural movement (have you tried this, Too Much Tech? I should say, I do have long fingers.), and I map the front 2 to replace the little menu buttons on top. I'm so used to using the extra buttons, especially the 2 on front, that no other controller is even an option for me anymore.
Smart idea to map the M1/M2 buttons to the thumb stick buttons. Prevents wear and tear of the thumbsticks which is a big reason for stick drift too. I plan on doing the same. How has your controller held up over time?
@@dhruvster10 Thanks! Yeah, and it they work better, too. I've always found using the stick press to be awkward. The controller still works like a dream. No issues at all.
@@ThulrVOdinsson thanks for the reply! Im glad that its working well for you. How would you say it compares to the elite series 2? I've been considering making the switch since my elite is showing some problems with stick drift and the paddles. Are the buttons on the back quite easy to reach? What is the length of your hands if you dont mind me asking? Thanks again
@@dhruvster10 Honestly, the V2 Chroma is better in nearly every way... The buttons have a more precise, crisp feel. The texture on the body of it is very comfortable and reduces slip. Also, if this one holds up as well as my previous Razer controller, then it has far better longevity than the Elite controllers. The only debatable aspect I can think of would be whether one prefers the buttons (V2 Chroma) or the paddles (Elite) underneath, but considering all of the ways the V2 Chroma is superior to the Elite, I couldn't imagine letting that be the deciding factor, especially when you consider how expensive these things are and the fact that, in my personal experience as mentioned above, Razer controllers last more than 2ce as long. As for hand size, I have large hands. Size 11 in Hestra gloves, if I remember correctly.
@@ThulrVOdinsson appreciate all the info! I still have about 6 months of warranty on my elite series 2 so ill probably send it in for repairs, sell it and then buy a V2 chroma with that money when its on sale. With your larger hands would you say its rather easy to hit the buttons and do you now prefer them over paddles? I appreciate all the updates. As someone that mainly plays FPSs I'm looking forward to this
Feel like the new controller would be best with the older controller back buttons, and maybe two more on top of that. It really looks out in the back not as natural. Don’t know if I’ll buy
I've bought the v2 an mostly only play cod. I would say this is by far the best controller I have had and used, I've never used the wolverine but had a sabertooth years ago which was really good. I had a xbox elite series 2 for 2 years and the comparison is that the v2 is miles ahead. For r me when it comes to fps shooters this controller is by far the best. One bit of advice if your going to use this train yourself to use the m1 an m2 as the left trigger an right trigger an your fingers will naturally curve to the back paddles to use for X or Y or whatever you want to use them as. It'll take time to get use to it but the pay off is worth it if you want to go for high kills.
I am getting my v2 Chroma Monday and want to use it mostly for COD also. The M1 and M2 as button click triggers is a great idea! What fingers and on what paddles do your fingers line up on automatically? Any other tips for your COD setup with this controller? What thumbstick setup do you use? Do you still map the real triggers for anything else and leave the bumpers mapped as is? Thanks.
This controller is great for PC gaming but I've never used them on my xbox. Personally I don't really understand the usability of extra buttons for consoles since... You can only map existing buttons to them which means you'll have the same button twice on your controller on consoles... Sure maybe that can help people in certain specific ways and instances but I'd rather the buttons go to dedicated actions. For example many console games will make 1 button have 2 actions or they'll complicate doing a different action by making you hold down a different button first before pressing something else. For PC that's not an issue and the extra buttons feel like a valued edition especially for games that aren't exactly fully intended foe controller usage.
Is this controller better than the elite series 2 in terms of quality? My elite series 2 RB is already unresponsive and i only have it for a year almost.
It's not wired because people dropping this much coin on a controller with half a dozen extra buttons would rather have faster response times and don't really mind being wired to a PC that's 4 feet away.
When you touch de cable, have you got the feeling that it is not perfectly fixed ? Mine is moving (from right to left) when you touch it . I don't know if it's normal 🤔
6:28 Im shocked he said that. The thumbstick tension is the best thing about the elite mk 2 and i wish more controllers had this feature. The medium tension is what i use and i am a walking apocalypse in fps shooters. I just cant play console competitive shooters with out my elite mk 2....well i can but ill be significantly weaker.
I would say it’s passable for fighting games but honestly the new Xbox controllers dpads are all mega tactile which I don’t think is the best for fighting games.
@@TooMuchTech I actually have the Elite 1 and i think that disc shaped d-pad is the absolute best i've ever used! For it's best for everything, easy to press any direction or more at once if i want to!
Bumpers were going out on my old ultimate so I subbed this one in. Biggest improvement I'd say is the texture. It just feels super nice. The face buttons are definitely a step down, but they're okay after you break them in. And the new d-pad is significantly better. As for the shape I'd say personal preference. It is actually possible for me to rest my fingers on all the buttons now. But, I kind of feel like 4 is enough anyway so idk.
7:17 It's unfathomable Razer can't get their head out of their ass and make another TE of the Wolverine. I bought a second Wolverine TE after my first broke, because the V2 was completely useless since it doesn't have back buttons. Hoping a V3 comes and has the same back buttons as the V1
Love this controller but the under buttons are in the worst position ever. It's like they wanted to make it feel wrong? Hard to reach and not intuitive at all.
I still have my tournament edition and it’s back remap buttons are just positioned better in my opinion. I just don’t like the way they are positioned in the new chroma v2 and the wolverine ultimate.
I’ve owned the razor wolverine ultimate for 11 months and the M3 has broke. I’ve looked into this and the M3 & M4 have a known issue, they are only held in place by 2 thin strips of plastic, these can snap fairly easily. Do you know if the M3&4 buttons are the same as the ultimate or have they improved the durability?
I have what should be the same controller, Razer Wolverine Ultimate, but my back buttons and triggers are aluminium. (Maybe because it's one of the OG models? Had it basically since they launched) What did give out on mine however was the cable, which proved to be a pain to replace.
Idk if there the same and I know this it late but I just broke the m3 on my v2 chroma it still works but the button is very loose an mushy now gonna get a new one for sure because I do love this controller
I don’t know why they haven’t made a newer version of the Wolverine Tournament Edition. I like how they’ve been keeping the middle shoulder buttons between the bumpers, but these new paddles are pretty awful. The TE had the perfect placement for them in my opinion. Sure it’s less paddles, but they felt more natural in their placement and just made the whole controller feel better overall. Fingers crossed for an updated TE model sometime in the future! Thanks for the review, definitely helped me come to the decision to hold out for a while.
I got the V2 Chroma and have been using it the past couple of hours. It's amazing. I don't understand how people don't like or can't reach the rear buttons. I have average sized hands and my middle and ring fingers sit perfectly on all 4 rear paddles. After a very short learning curve I am already near my old skill level. 6 buttons is awesome too I can already tell my skill ceiling just increased a ton. Love this controller and wish I would have just went straight for it initially (returned 4 Elite Series 2s).
Just ordered one on eBay for the mechanical buttons. I use a mechanical keyboard and just like those better, but I just heard they don’t have rumble in the triggers, just the palms. That’s disappointing in a more expensive controller At least I got it for half price.
Thanks for this review... I didn't catch the NO impulse triggers on the Razer Wolverine V2 Chroma. I didn't see this information in the other reviews of this controller.... Not a small detail for me !!
Appreciate your content bro. I’ll just buy the last version which Is now $99.99 Instead of $150 🙂. No drastic “Must have” changes from what I see. Plus, I have an RGB lit room and the light Is a bigger deal to me than most. Thanks bro 🤘
Are the joysticks the same as the ultimate ? I just really like the powerA joystick tension feel but everything else about the ultimate is sick so it sucks lol
I came here for people on the fence or shopping: I have large hands and mostly play Halo Infinite and I have to say that the rear buttons/paddles (whatever you want to call them) are in such an uncomfortable position to keep your fingers on that it’s a dealbreaker for me, after a few days of serious play I can’t recommend this controller. You can reach the rear buttons/paddles easily and if you don’t need to keep your fingers on them then maybe it’s another story, but for that rapid reaction needed for a game like Halo… oof. If you’re watching this thinking “well it can’t be that awkward/I’m sure it will be fine” I assure you it’s straight up not. The build quality feels sturdy, the weight and ergonomics of the controller are on point, the mechanical buttons sound like the voice of an angel to me, and the wire feels high quality. But those paddles are literally unforgivable, completely useless if you want to keep your hands on the buttons (like for melee or equipment in Halo), completely defeating the purpose of a controller like this, especially for 150 bucks. What an absolute shame because I wanted to love this thing
have the wolverine tournament edition the back buttons always get hit on accident being so low profile and the placement of them. does this one solve that issue?
Razer controllers are way to cheap for me , the last one i have was made of cheap plastic. And over priced, Everyone know that. And he broke After 4months. So never more for me. If you want something with quality just get élite 2 controller
lol theres way you're calling this controller lower quality/over priced while recommending the elite 2 controller for its durability when that controller is the absolute worst controller you can buy for reliability. What microsoft is doing selling those fragile things is straight robbery. The Elite 2 is a fantastic controller until you inevitably get a problem with it at which point they never stop. Nah sorry your take is just wrong.
They don't come off, or they aren't supposed to come off. They can be unbound in the app, but don't really get in the way anyway. As Hung said though, if to don't want any buttons on the back you can go with the regular V2 and save about $60.
@@kutobisho9173 is there a reason to use the wolverine tournament over the wolverine ultimate though? isn't the ultimate better than the tournament edition?
@@wintersummer1633 Personally, I liked the quality and the paddle/button layout of the tournament a lot, but I’ve only ever owned a tournament edition so I don’t really have an opinon on the ultimate one way or the other.
why no impulse triggers? Glaring omission there. Thinking I might just get another wolverine ultimate when mine craps out. V2 chroma seems like a downgrade in many areas.
