For those unaware, the original black Wolverine V2 controller for Xbox Series X/S/One/PC had a slight defect in which the trigger and bumper grind against each other if you hold down the bumper while trying to pull down the same-side trigger. I would just like to point out that this issue has been FIXED in the new V2 Chroma and the new White/Mercury version of the V2. Have a great day!

Something you forgot to realize and mention is that it’s razer and they’re competitive. A lot of their products are mostly focused on wired. Yes they do offer wireless but when it comes to the competitive field wired is the way to go no exchanging of batteries and higher response time…

I switched to the Wolverine Ultimate after I had 2 XBox Elite controllers break in about a year or less. The Wolverine lasted almost 3x as long for me. While I have suspicions it may just be the cable, my Wolverine Ultimate died this morning after 2 years & 8 months of use, and I ordered this one (V2 Chroma) to replace it. The deal breaker for me is the extra buttons. I LOVE the extra M1/M2 buttons on the front! I map them to take the place of pressing in on the sticks, and it makes for much better control with running toggle in FPS games. As for the added switches underneath, I use my ring and pinky fingers for them, which allows for more natural movement (have you tried this, Techne?), and I map the front 2 to replace the little menu buttons on top. I'm so used to using the extra buttons, especially the 2 on front, that no other controller is even an option for me anymore.

As someone that has been playing video games since colecovision, intellivision and the atari 2600 days, I have used nearly every controller for every console that you can think of. I have to say, Microsoft took a controller that I really enjoyed (Dreamcast) and really improved upon it. Just got a Series X a handful of months ago and it really is a dream in your hands. Factor in the design lab that allowed me to give an Xbox controller a really old school look (I took inspiration from the old NES controller and the orange triggers from NES peripherals) I think that Microsoft have a really good understanding what many gamers want in a controller. The only negative, aside from the obvious need for batteries (which you can resolve easily) is the placement of the share button. During intense moments, in game, I find my giant man mittens mashing it harder than Gail the Snail did Frank Reynolds.
@SeriouslyTechStuff
@SeriouslyTechStuff 2 года назад
The point of the spacing of the back buttons is that you don't rest your fingers on the buttons. Your fingers hold the controller. You reach to push the buttons without losing grip. Just like you would with the face buttons. My hands get tired using the Elite because my fingers I would normally use to hold the controller are resting on paddles. So maybe they should address that in the manual.

@danielsilvester2008
@danielsilvester2008 3 года назад
Appreciate the review Techne but I aren't too sure whether or not this controller is aimed at you; the only reason I can think of someone complaining about a wired controller and having to stretch a finger to a position they're not used to is due to the games they play and the manner they play them in. A person who is hell bent on being the best they can be will buy this controller because it helps them in that competitive environment, and if they have to learn to adjust thumbstick positions and/or paddle placement then they'll do that. This controller will be by far and away superior to the elite series 2, I have the Wolverine V2 and the build quality is more robust, it's more ergonomic in the hand and the thumbstick tension is nailed on. The Microsoft Xbox controller is great and suits casual gaming perfectly, but people will always search for something that will offer them whatever competitive edge they seek, and that's what this and other variants of the stock controller provides. If the series 2 elite is retailing at 150 in the US and this is matching that price then given the issues with series 2 models this seems nothing short of a bargain
@danielsilvester2008
@danielsilvester2008 3 года назад
@Zephyn M I'm not going to lie friend I have no idea what those games are, and I have limited experience with the original ultimate, for me I just feel certain aftermarket controllers have quite a slack tension level on general, the V2 just feels like it takes slightly more effort to maneuver which my thumb prefers. I would love the adjustable thumbstick tension that you can find on the elite series 2 but I can't part with money for that one plus side when it comes with the problems they have. The only thing I can suggest is to buy one and to see what you think, the new shape is like putty in your hands, but obviously £90 is a lot of money to spend to not guarantee that it's going to be for you

I have the regular V2 and I love it. I got it for $50 on Amazon. I agree with you that the price point is off. The regular Wolverine V2 should be $60 and the new one should be $119 max. Maybe even $99.
@throwsnbrews9516
@throwsnbrews9516 3 года назад
@Zephyn M you're absolutely correct. The thing about Razer products, though is that usually within 6 months the price drops DRASTICALLY. If you look on Amazon right now, you can get mice that came out at the end of last year as "refurbished" or just "used good" which means returned and basically in perfect shape for half of what they cost new.

Just picked this controller up yesterday from Best Buy. Personally and I've used the regular V2 model....I absolutely love how it feels in my hands. It's actually almost perfect. What kills it for me is the damn back buttons. I'm not sure why Razer is so hell bent on using this design. The Wolverine Tournament edition for Xbox has the design similar to the Turtle Beach Recon which is perfect. I'd love for them to release a version of this controller with it's shape and those back buttons. Wireless would be nice but on all honesty what 3rd party company makes those for Xbox anyhow?

Not a fan of the bottom/back layout, prefer Scufs prestige back paddle system and those extra two button next to the triggers on the Razer Wolverine V2... Who can press them in the heat of things really?! Scuff Instinct better have good QA cuz it's the one I'm eyeing, back button placement looks perfect.
@Zykrex
@Zykrex 3 года назад
You should look into other reviews of the Wolverine Tournament or even the v2 (non chroma). The 2 buttons on the top are the best addition in any elite controller to date. They are super easy to press unlike the bumpers on any controller which require you to move your index back and forth causing strain. The back buttons are also considered some of the best designed although that is more so preference than any other thing. The shape of the v2 is the best shape of any elite I’ve used (I got at least 10). Also if you care about input lag, Razer’s controller is the best as well. I play fighting games which is the #1 reason Xbox Elite sucks (it adds 1-3 frames of delay compared to normal controllers). Razer’s doesn’t seem to have any added delay at all, and the travel time on the buttons are all quicker which possibly could lead to faster inputs (but that isn’t measurable unfortunately). All in all Razer’s elite controllers are super overlooked. Yea they are pricey, but they are actually doing shit well for gamers as opposed to others who are just making good builds but screwing you in things that are actually necessary for high competitive play
@Zykrex
@Zykrex 3 года назад
Just going to add. The V2 is so good, it’s the only controller I’ve used since I got it (and again I got like 10 different elites from different brands) and my only complaints were the fact that it had no back buttons and that the button remapping sucks ass. The shape of the controller and the 2 extra triggers being so easy to press basically blew any other controller out of the water. It seems like both of my complaints were were addressed in this Chroma version so I already ordered mine hoping this version feels as solid as the non-chroma one.

I got one of these for Christmas from my wife. I love the way this looks. I love the hand fit. I love clicky buttons...... I want to love the controller but I can't. I try to find ways to love it but it falls short of being an item of love. The things I don't like. No auto for buttons, not a deal breaker but for 150 this seems like a basic thing to include. I can only remap the buttons to existing buttons... This is the deal breaker... Why would I need three "A" butttons?? Wtf. This would and could be the ULTIMATE pc controller if I could remap the buttons to all be unique. Like seriously who was the project manager who thought "we need a dozen extra buttons, but let's not make unique io maps for each". So the net effect is "same buttons but now with more locations!!!". Dumb. Lastly, the start/select button locations are inconvenient. The thumb distance isn't an issue for me as I have long thumbs but for the start/select its awkward. I guess another gripe is the bottom extra triggers end up being disabled by me be I accidentally hit them randomly. End of review : I would not buy.

This controller has basically 6 "Paddles" if you will. you cant beat that. Reviews online have proven to me personally this is waaaay more durible than the elite series 2. I even got a 2 year warrenty on the razer one. Elite series 2 WILL BREAK ON YOU the controller is amazing but has SEVERE DURIBILITY issues. I broke 4 3 of which were sent to me by microsoft directly from warrenty for free. They only lasted a few months each. NEVER broke a controller and i have been gaming my whole life! i could pull out a xbox 360 controller from when i was younger they all work. NOT THE ELITE SERIES 2 they break just from you using them. Elite series 2 would be my favorite controller ever. BUT THEY JUST KEEP BREAKING ON ME PERSONALLY. I have the series 1 elite. i wouldn't pay for any of these controllers ever again they are all designed to break Had a razor wolverine tournament edition buttons on the face went Elit 1 bumpers Elite 1 triggers Elite 2 buttons and paddles Elite 2 bumpers and ...out of the box ! The back paddles didnt have enough of a curve to make a click they just touch the sodes of the controller and wouldnt make a good contact Hands down the best controller i have purchased no bs £35 Powera Spectra infinity enhanced controller Trigger stops 2 remapped BUTTONS!! not paddles Colours if ur into it Feels great in the hands And has a nice clickyness to it Share button And some weird party / game thing on it which i dont use headsets wireless Works a treat EASY to replace Only issue is its wired however its firmly in place the connection is inside as u put the cable the cable fits snug into its own housing which holds the connection in place it cant move unless u pull it out And u can just go get another 1 if something does go wrong The amount u pay for a controller like this or a elite of a scuff U could buy 3 to 4 of these and they last u 2 to 4 years depending on the torture it goes through Which is more than i can say for any of these controllers in my personal experience The only product i think deserves ur money and again this is just me is the headset U need decent sound even then its up for debate For me a purchase could cost around 230? 250? Depending on the head set For u guys ur looking at 300 a year plus the headset what 500 ?? 600?? Trust me controllers are not worth it if none of those problems arise .... I bet u its stick drift ... if ur lucky enough to avoid all of that give it another few months garunteed u need another 1 or ull be trying to open it up to repair it Bare Basic soldering set £25 These things are designed to break its about value for money as a consumer its not in there best interest to give u a garunteed durable product Sorry dont mean to sheit on anyone but seriously all this stuff anything over £60 not worth it

It’s not a complaint if the ergonomics are off on the controller. That’s the most important part of a controller. It needs to be comfortable and usable for however long you want to use it for. Having to reach or “stretch” to be able to reach the back buttons is unacceptable. Especially for $150. Great review.

NOPE! Had the Wolverine tournament and regretted buying it. It felt like a cheap controller you buy out of a bargain bin... it was that bad. Felt cheap, creaked in my hands and buttons would stick. Hopefully they do better on this one but Id never buy a razor controller again. I wouldnt even give that one I had to someone or sell it to some poor sap. PLUS clicky doesnt make a good controller. Who wants to hear a bunch of clicking in party chat? If you wanna spend $200 dollars get a ELITE or SKUFF. ELITE V2 are having problems with bumpers too so keep that in mind. Own one of those too.

NO controller is worth 150$ when the sticks are gonna drift one way or another, EVERYTHING else is gimmick until they make durable enough sticks that last a consoles lifespan without having to babysit it.

Does it store multiple profiles and able to switch them on the fly with a button press like the elite series 2?
@MrBlaydzz
@MrBlaydzz 3 года назад
@@the_i.t_guy1134 Unfortunately no. But you can save multiple profiles you have created. But the controller does not change the saved profiles that you have chosen on the fly. Only way you can is within the “Razer Controller Setup” app. I wish that was an option though, but no it does now have it. The button underneath the share button is an audio configuration button not a profile switch button. Again.. wish it was on option.

I have the older version of this controller and I love it. Those top buttons are the feature for me. The ones on the back I dont use much but I like how theyre inbound far enough I can hold it tight unlike the Elite controller with the levers installed. I still use an Elite when using the TV to game and need that wireless but I miss those top buttons every time I pick it up. Im gonna wait till this goes on sale and grab one.

Wolverine ultimate and former wildcat owner here, and I completely agree about the top buttons. Overlooked feature that no other controller line has. Super useful in game. The razer controllers just have more buttons to map, making it more customizable. Big fan of their xbox controllers.

Great review, but disagree with you regarding the buttons under the controller. Ive used an Elite and hated how close their flimsy paddles were to the sides and kept hitting them in sweaty moments of battle. The Razer underside buttons are greatly positioned so as not to be accidently bumped. You get use to their position after you've gamed with them. Owned 2 razer Wolverine controllers and have just purchased the Chroma V2.

Not sure why Logitech hasn’t got into the pro controller ring. I’m sure it would kill in sales for them. Especially if it worked natively with their software on pc.

Went through 2 Elite 2 and 2 was enough for me. The only reason I used the underside paddles was because the RB and LB buttons kept failing on the Elite 2. One reason I bought the Wolverine V2 Chroma was for the buttons (which all feel amazing and WORK) and the fact that I can use two RB or LB buttons made me even happier.

Best controller I’ve used. The buttons on top of the controller are a game changer when playing a game like fortnite. No other controller like it. Which is unfortunate because of the price. That and the placement of the back buttons are the only negative but imo they’re better placed than the elite controller. Highly recommend.
