I replaced the controller with a fast scooters 36v, which is standard but wanted new. Then installed a 24v 500w motor to "overvolt" and gain top speed.
With just the controller it went 18mph. (video showed 22mph due to GPS error)
One mph faster than with the stock controller.
Then installed a 24v 500w motor for the final 23mph run. I did manage 24 and 25mph a few times.
Next video I will have a lithium battery pack. total current top speed is in the video, watch to find out!!
Cheapest route is just installing a 24v 500w motor. I bought mine on ebay for around $60 shipped. Figure, 16mph to 22mph jump with ONLY the motor.
Motor can be found here:

I would BUT I don't want to. I want to stay true to the bike, as a brushed motor. Plus this is the cheapest route to go. Sure brushless is cool but that 1800w kit at 48v ($450 roughly with lithium battery) still only hitting 27-29mph. I hit 27 with a 24v 500w BRUSHED motor, cheap 36v 1000w controller, and 36v 10ah lithium battery. Depends on your endgame I suppose. I am more than happy with my setup. Maybe a bigger battery. 14ah lithium?? We shall see

This MX500 or the PR200?? I have both. This MX500 is in storage. Its winter here and switch to snowmobiles. In the spring I will swap in a lithium battery for better performance. The sla batteries are terrible and I have to roll on the throttle plus its maybe 2 miles at full speed with the lead acid batteries. The pr200 was on hold but will be back this year. I will list the parts for this one in the video description in the next few days.

For this video, yes, stock is a 36v 500w motor, 36v 500w controller. I installed a 24v 500w motor and 36v 1000w controller. The lead acid batteries eventually couldn't keep up. I went lithium and there is a more recent video of that in my video section.

How much did all the parts cost?
@bdrgarage7039
@bdrgarage7039 2 года назад
Hey, thanks for the question. This video was with the original sealed lead acid batteries, the 24v 500w motor is around $65-$80 (ebay or Amazon) the Fast scooters controller with voltage display was about $70 on ebay. After that I bought a lithium (36v 10ah, $165) in a second video on my channel. It was not big enough for the output. I upgraded to a 36v 20ah ($225) battery. Its an awesome setup. The 20ah with 1/2-3/4 throttle will last around 1.5hrs. But cool down is needed with the overvolted motor. About every 15min.

Where do you source your parts? I'm new to all this electric motors... I just got a new pocket bike off Amazon. Definitely not the same quality as when I was a kid... But it's fun, still looking where I can put more batteries on this thing lol I have a welder!!
@bdrgarage7039
@bdrgarage7039 3 года назад
Very nice. I usually source parts from ebay, sometimes Amazon, and the third place is electric scooter parts dot com. I very much like Fast Scooters controllers (ebay). I went on this setup with the 24v 500w motor to get the 'overvolt' effect without adding an extra battery. On the pocket bike and 3rd battery under the seat works. I have an older video of a 36v pocket bike which will be in a future video again. Thanks for watching.

I'm sorry to have to ask this but I'm a little confused. The 24 V 500 W motor is more powerful then the original 36 V 500 W motor?
@bdrgarage7039
@bdrgarage7039 3 года назад
Yes, only because it is getting 36 volts. When you throw 12 extra volts at a motor you get roughly 50% more watts and rpms. Rpms are where the top speed is. Similar to putting a 48 volt setup on the original 36 volt motor. I originally ran lead acid batteries so it was easier to fit the original three batteries instead of trying to fit a 4th battery. Thus the 24v motor swap.

@bdrgarage7039
@bdrgarage7039 2 года назад
@@tylerangieslayton7455 Slight modifying, the case is the same size. But the bolts stick out, you can either swap the end cap and bolts from the old motor or I believe I shaved the bolt enough the fit. Only one on the bottom. I went 24v because the 36v lithium packs were a lot cheaper at the time.

Your description is at odds with the video. You hit 22 in the video but then you say 18 in the description? A controller that claims to add up to 5 mph in the link in the description BTW. Also, how can you say what the motor would do by itself since you added it after the controller upgrade? Seems like a guess based on no actual data.
@bdrgarage7039
@bdrgarage7039 3 года назад
Wow! You are hardcore. I was going to do a brand new controller and throttle along with a 24 volt 500-watt motor. That is basically overvolting. Instead of going to 48 volts and trying to fit 4 batteries in my trays with my stock motor I went to a 24 volt motor to keep my 36 volt setup. I was simply showing in the beginning that I actually gained about 1-2 mph just from the controller. In the end with both modifications I was doing anywhere between 23 and 25 mph. The 25 was on a slight downhill. I have done probably 15 overvolt razors and all of them ended up around 23 mph. I do this for fun and hope I can help people out. Sorry if my description wasn't up to par . I try to do minimal editing and obviously the GPS was wrong at that point. Any other statistics you want let me know.
@scottkuban5

@@bdrgarage7039 Sorry for the brusk tone of my prior comment. It was just a confusing difference. Updating your description's parenthetical to (video showed 22mph due to a GPS error) could make it more clear. Since you've done many other overvolts, have you done any with just the motor swap and keeping the stock controller? Just curious. Finally, I ordered the controller you linked to yesterday based on your video for my SX500 so you are helping people. Best.
@bdrgarage7039
@bdrgarage7039 3 года назад
@@scottkuban5 it's all good. Also sorry if my tone was out of line. I like to show real world data and that there can be errors. I put that whole bike together in an hour and a half. No I haven't done an mx500 with only the motor. But I have done quite a few mini choppers with a true 36 volt setup. Very difficult to fit 3 batteries and that little tray period but 23 mph every time with a 185 lb on it. I have done a handful of E300 scooters, also 23 except for one that had a really old controller. That one would hit 20-21. At the point I've only doing the motor, I'm pretty sure it would still hit 23. Considering I was 23-25. The next thing I want to do after the lithium pack is to put brand new wheel bearings in and get my wheels Trued in. I believe at least 1 mph could be gained from the less resistance of the new bearings and straight wheels. Lots of people go with brushless setups and you can but I have heard so many problems trying to set them up. I was looking for a cheap quick modification. The only reason I swapped my controller and throttle was to put all my stock Parts on the Shelf in case there is a problem I can always go back to stock. My stock setup was originally 16 to 17 mph with me. When I get a chance I will change my description

Can I do this with a 650 ?
@bdrgarage7039
@bdrgarage7039 3 года назад
Absolutely. Know when you overvolt the 24-volt 500-watt motor it's equivalent to about 750w but you get about forty to fifty percent more RPMs which is where the speed comes from. Most people with the 650 motor overvolt them to 48v. A 48 volt 1000 watt controller from Fast scooters, and get a 48 volt 14 amp hour minimum lithium battery. That will you save money on swapping a motor. But the battery will be more. It was roughly 325 bucks to do the modification oh, that was motor, controller and throttle, and lithium battery. I know the lithium battery was not in this video but it is done and I will be making a new video soon with more mph!
