This gives you a conical point. You need to have relief behind the cutting edges. You can touch up a drill on a bench grinder by following the contour but you need special tool room equipment to do a precision job.

If you watched this then you didn't. Sharp bit never takes that long to cut. There is no relief behind the cutting edge. Meaning if you look at the bit from the front the cutting edge should be the highest point, if not you'll get what he just got. A bit that will start a hole but you'll have the muscle your way through the rest.. FYI

The Drill Angle for most applications is fine, but no relief clearance away from the cutting edge of the dril. You need it for allowing the drill to cut properly. Otherwise, the drill will just rub.

@gerrywhelan5761 the second most important thing is shelter and security. You'll need a drill for that. The sooner you build a safe secure complex, the sooner you become king.
@gerrywhelan5761
@gerrywhelan5761 2 месяца назад
@@kewlztertc5386 Why would you want a drill for that, how many native peoples have made good shelter for themselves without any drill or the like, as for security, I would definitely lean towards a big bloody gun or a big bloody knife or the like, not a drill, for whatever a drill (not much on its own) could construct could be easy breached by determined individuals in a apocalyptic environment.

@americanosbadassius9292
@americanosbadassius9292 2 месяца назад
Well that actually took about 6 minutes and I think you have the best answer towards the beginning of the video where you just held the drill bit up to the grinder, why wouldn't that work? You just leave it in the drill for a better grip on the bit and put it to the grinder. Simple. Fast. Done. Why put a good grinder out of commission in a locked position no mobility and very limited applications? Just bored people overthinking things with their science brains. If the world runs out of new drill bits or drill bit sharpeners, it may have also run out of electricity, severely limiting the uses of the drill bit anyway.

You'd have to use a new grinding disc that was flat, not like that one. Plus you'll only get the cutting edge angle this way, and the bit should slope away from that so it's not touching the material it's drilling. Otherwise it's a good idea.

I can appreciate anyone who makes a tool using what they have instead of buying one, but damnit man I wasted 3 minutes waiting to learn something before I realized that you were making a bench grinder out of an angle grinder. I already have 4 bench grinders, and a drill bit sharpener... so I guess I should actually be blaming myself for the time wasted on this video. But being on the toilet with nothing else makes it ok. Thanks for the video, I'm glad I watched it without wasting time watching it.

Hmmmm….. honestly, I would buy a new drill as I don’t have the use of most of the equipment involved I would have to buy. Not to mention the time it takes! Also, some key sections are missing… How to you cut the big bolt? (Another expensive metal cutter I imagine) and what kind of sandpaper is being used? (Another expense). Good for a tradesman I suppose but not for the majority of us. Far too complicated.

You have a drill bit but no drill? Buy an angle grinder, cheap tool, with myriad uses. That was all he used in this video, two tools that almost every person owns. But, all he is really saying is make a jig to hold the bit at the correct angle against anything that grinds.

I'll tell you all a secret next time you have to drill through something that's almost impossible.... All of the diamond bit drill bits at the parts stores and usually at the hardware stores are all s***. Made with cheap alloys if you know where an old '70s Ford work truck is go pull out the seats and look for old tools in there like wooden drill bits because they're stronger than anything made to cut through metal that you can buy today I've drilled through bolts stuck off in the manifold on an '80s model S10 before with a wooden drill bit because everything else I bought kept breaking I couldn't believe it

Speaking of hands he might not even have any hands soon making dangerous equipment like this. Good idea i guess but safety obviously isn't the priority.

This is not doing it correctly. Buy a grinder and learn from someone who knows what they are doing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--IDK6F14RIw.html This fellow knows. I do the same though I lift up rather than down, same action and result.

You tool only serves to dull bits and promote injury! That will not make a bit sharper, you would have to an undercut on the back side of the leading edge and definitely don't use WD-40 just keep the bit cool by bipping it in water after a few seconds of grinding so it doesn't lose its temper... My advice don't make videos about a topic you know little to nothing about!
