SUCH a great demo, Reid! I bought one of these a few days ago, and as you know, the owner’s manual is basically useless, so I’ve been watching youtube vids all day; got a lot out of them, but I have to say, yours is far and away the best (and I’m only 7 minutes in! lol..). Thanks a million !
Great walkthrough. I’ve had this pedal a while and haven’t messed with the internal settings much yet. I’ve been considering writing something utilizing its capabilities rather than just doing playback improv for fun. This definitely helps and will be a good reference to come back to. Thank you
I have been struggling with trying to use my RC500 for a few months as could not truly understand how to use this to its full potential. This video has been so informative and has helped tremendously. The breakdown and examples used completely make sense. Very appreciative of this video.
Been watching looper reviews by the millions! Reid does a good 'real world' job here. One thing I wanted to mention about my observation with loopers. If you want rhythm track capability (aka drums, percussion), it is super important to have good if not stellar drum sounds. Otherwise with my experience of the last 4 or 5 loopers I have purchased, you get very tired of the cheesy drum/percussion sounds. I think the RC-500 and RC-10 have great drum sounds and this goes a long way with me for making grooves. Also the ability to adjust another guitar/instrument track is great.
@@ReidsReviews it's still helping people like me almost a year on so thank you for putting that effort in, it's a tremendous resource for anyone thinking about or having gotten one of these. 👍
I just bought one of these and i really havent dived in yet but this seems very comprehensive ......actually a little overly comprehensive .....lots of superfluous stuff but it is nice to have lots of options......esp if you use an external footswitch. I just want to use the mic for creating quick beats and shaker and acoustic guitar simultaneously with the abilitiy to shut off either or both loops instantly and i think this will do the job nicely......thanks for this in depth tutorial ......i will be referring back to it constantly. I just subscribed
Thank you so much from Canada! The OM for the pedal is horrible, and I couldn't start playing for 2 years, until I have found someone explaining the Beast properly. So, guess, I have subscribed immediately due to quality content. ❤ Boss shall pay you for such tutorial.
Excellent review/tutorial. Unfortunately these wonderful well thought out modern devices are so complicated that folks who dont make a living with them, try to use them competently but dont have the time or patience to get into all the nuances of said device(s), like me! Going slow on the instruction does it... Great job.
Thanks, this is the most in depth demo I've seen. You answered questions others did not! One such was, will this clear memory without playing bace, as did the rc5. I hated that! So now I'm confident to get this one!
I just picked one of these up from my local 2nd hand shop for 80 quid. i used to have an rc-3 but i never got it back after loaning it to someone lol. this unit seems to do a lot more anyway and 2nd hand was half the price of the rc 3. i always wanted the ability to have separate sections for the same track and this unit gives me that, i set them up sequentially as a verse then chorus sections.
Excellent performance. You explain the LOOPER in a very very nice logical and understandable way, perfect in order ....to follow step by step... Great job also to go from feature to feature instead of getting emotionally stuck with the do and don'ts. Thanks a lot. Many regards from Chris Bunch of flowers music RU-vid.
The drum fill comes in when you change variations. You have to have a button set up to change from variation a to variation b and then you will hear the drum fill in between
BEST REVIEW ON THE NET for RC-500 I just bought. Any Distortion Pedals for Acoustic Guitar coming? Bought Fender Smolder and can't seem to get it to sound good. thanks.
IDK I already went through a huge learning curve to get down the headrush looper , this one in which i'm considering seems nice but a lot of work .I think setting up the channels separately 1st and 2nd button and the 3rd button as the stop might work and add a control pedal. The RC10R might be good enough as a secondary one from the Headrush although I do have the Digitech Trio Plus which is cool but quirky but those 5 song sections make that hard to part with although the drums and Bass learning your riff on the trio is very limited this is why I'm looking at these semi older RC pedals ,the RC 600 and Headrush would be a bit over the top. ( and expensive) I'm leaning on the RC10 at the moment that can change tomorrow morning lol because theres more options to add to it all .on the other hand If I had no others, as of now I would pick up this RC500 it packs a punch for the price and size . Thanks for the demo good job !
Yes this is an excellent introduction but that pedal can do much more. I am trying now to split the drum and the guitar onto two separate amps...not easy. I am trying still to figure it out. Another problem, can't seem to be able to activate the A pedal of the FS-6 Foot dual switch...B works fine, cable a double rings...went through menu control...another work in progress. I like this looper but find it difficult to program. For example, do not confuse parameters for each two tracks with the general parameters otherwise it will modified everything else you may have recorded. There is also a way of programming a drum tracks with fillings and beat changes but I won't even get in there unless I have a couple of days to waste doing nothing else but that. There are also some special FX inside the unit such as vinyl, reverse, repeat and much more....those FX are, in fact, those that I am trying to assign to my Boss FS-6.
Hello Reid, thank you for the overview of the RC-500! I have noticed: after recording track 1 for Verse and track 2 for Chorus, the tracks get out of sync with the beat after a couple of measures or when repeating the Chorus. For some measures it's working well, but after some measures the rhythm machine is getting confused. I have tried, but don't know how to resolve it. Do you have an idea? Gerald
This vid help a lot!!👏👏👏. Thanks a lot. I wonder if you can assign track 1 and track 2 to different wav file on the same memory slot when they're import them. And if it is possible to use them as verse - chorus situation. Thanks again.
What about loop auto on memory and its interaction with measure settings on track ? If I want T1 to have 7 measures and T2 to have 6, how the memory loop settings should be done ? to Auto ??
Can someone please help!! I can’t figure out how to always have track one turn off when I want to record a “b” part on track two. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. What am I doing wrong?? I’m going crazy!!!
Theres any way around to send the click/metronome/rythm only to hear it in a headphones and none in the speakers? As it doens't have any dedicated phones out seems it wouldn't be possible right?? :(
I can't assign to make a rythm fill break. I have fs5 for this *** And also in case of having assign control 1 .. in "control" section also front control 1 what do you choose ?? Can you help?
Hi Reids, I bought recently one unit but when I record in track 1 and after track 2 I get also the audio from track 1 recorded in to track 2! How this happens? Thank you..!
@@johnstudiob2481Same happen to me. My jammin is failing, and I'm not interested in rhythm section, I do my own in logic. But imported wav in Boss loopers has a lot issue with the levels, they sound extremely loud and I can't mp overdub, my guitar doesn't sound. Jamman has independent volume for instrument.
Hi Reid! Is there a way to normalize the loop playback volume? I made a set of music but the problem was some of the loops were much louder than others due to the style an intensity of the recorded song. I made sure that I recorded them at the same time with the same guitar and settings on the guitar. I may have to get a volume pedal if there is no way to normalize. Nice work by the way. Hope you can help.
Instead of overdub maybe use tracks 1 & 2 to lay down separate recordings so we can go back and redo each track if needed. This RC 500 has 2 tracks. The RC 600 has 5 tracks? Worth investigating. I plugged my looper into a studio reference monitor. OMG! Bass too loud. Drums too loud, etc…
I don't understand how Boss loopers works with wav levels. I have some loops and backing tracks at very low levels and when I import them they sound very loud in the pedal. So, I got to turn it down a lot and my guitar doesn't even sound at that level. I can not overdub.
Mine is a shit.totally instable. Error message of ‘busy unit’ but i have only one short track in memory. It doesn’t always recognize external footswitch, only sometimes. It doesn’t keep tracks in memory (yes, i do the correct steps). Sometimes when i record second track it records again the first also in the second!!! Totally disappointed
