We are talking grip on the race track and how to fine tune the handling of your car. Just like formula 1, tire selection is key to winning.
We talk tire compounds and additive. We let you know what we do to keep our cars on the track.
and explain the different tire types.
This video focuses on rubber tires and mainly 1/10th touring cars. the same principles can be transferred to MTC cars as well. Foam tyres have their own set of rules that we are not going to get into.

Great video 👍🏻. Would love to see some more videos of the Tamiya TT01/02 set ups for beginners and also maybe some transmitter settings explanations for beginners.

Personally like the Hot Race brand of wheels & Tyres. Better value than the Chinese eBay stuff & much better grade. I like the 1/10 nitro foams for my TT02. 37 Shore.

Extremely useful video guys, 2 questions for you - have you run the Contact foam tyres? Do you sometimes mix the different tyres, for example 28 front, 30 rear? Dumb question but I am new to this.Keep the videos coming.Thank you!
@PopalongRC
@PopalongRC 2 года назад
We have run contact foams on our GT12… there is another dimension to consider when running foams though. And YES… if the tweaking with additive does not give you the grip balance having the tyre split front and back with different compounds is the next step..

hey guys, nice video, but what can you do when you can not choose a different tire
@PopalongRC
@PopalongRC 2 года назад
Good question.. probably adjust car set up, try different shock oil/springs, add weight, or adjust camber/toe. It really depends on what you want to achieve.👍

Thanks for the tips, really useful. A question that has nothing to do with it - how did you achieve the "shaggy fade" paintjob on Carl's car?
@PopalongRC
@PopalongRC Год назад
it was an old can of paint and I did not shake it properly so it came out really watery also did not squeeze can to hard so it spluttered out rather that even spray.

Hey! So I'm driving in-door in a large school dining hall that has a dusty rubbery floor and grip becomes non existence in no-time unless I'm using large monster wheels. What can I do to the grip with regular slicks wheels? Make extremely slim ones like bicycle wheels perhaps? What do you think? Be careful with superglue if you don't plan to buy multiple wheels! It eats rubber over time
@PopalongRC
@PopalongRC 8 месяцев назад
It is the dust on the floor which is the issue … we used to mop and sweep before racing … but never fully master running on wood floors
@TheSphongleface
@TheSphongleface 8 месяцев назад
@PopalongRC I was saying the same. The thing is we don't have much time as we enter just as the students leave, hence dusty. Did you try a small brush on the wheels?

I have a TT01 and run box stock. I get rear hop going around corners at high speed. What causes this? it the solution in suspension or diff fluid or???
@PopalongRC
@PopalongRC Год назад
If you are running box stock the friction damper will cause you to bounce around a bit .. that is why many people opt for oil filled upgraded shocks. We recommend the 50mm yeah racing shocks If you are in 🇬🇧 uk they have them at Rochester RC for a good price and you can get a discount using the popalongrc discount code

Can the contact 30s be used without additive? As I'm only using them for one day..
@PopalongRC
@PopalongRC Год назад
They can but it will depend on how high the carpet grip is … might be better off with rush 28 if not using additive.
@Gnomeology1
@Gnomeology1 Год назад
@@PopalongRC just had look at price of tyres, it'll be cheaper to buy additive as already got contact tyres. I'll only be using it for one day. I might see if it works on my ford focus real car tyres.

Only me again, sorry. I brought some additive that can be used on both rubber and foam tyres as have a mardave mini21, Just two more questions. What is a good compound tyre for mini? And do you ever put additive on pre race day so your ready or is it an on the day job.
@PopalongRC
@PopalongRC Год назад
Don’t run mardave but for gt12 foam tyres Rear tyre I put additive as soon as I arrive and front is about 5mins before the race
