These lectures were created for a first semester, first year undergraduate course "Intro. to Sensors, Instrumentation, and Measurement" at Olin College.
This lecture introduces the resistor-capacitor (RC) circuit driven by a sinusoidal source and describes the Bode plot for a simple low-pass and high-pass filter.

you might need to point out a small mistake at around 8:40 that ' -cos(pheta) ' is meant to be ' +A*cos(pheta) ' very useful video thank you

Nice video! was hoping you were going to use transfer functions , but this was still very helpful. I have a question: Are RC circuits always called LOW-pass filters? Or are there circumstances where a first order RC circuit could be a HIGH-pass filter, or an other type of filter?

If you measure the voltage across the resistor you would have a highpass filter. The voltage across the capacitor would in the meantime look like a lowpass.
