Love revisiting 'older' videos especially as i have just bought one of these, to replace my old Team Raffee/Boom Racing D90 which has given up the ghost
I’m not a rabid Defender fan but that body & scale details are awesome. Wish they sold a version with light kit & upgraded wheels/tires but minus the electronics/battery; most of us have a transmitter & favorite electronics already.
8:27 - For info. Defenders a have always been link and coil sprung (albeit using separate coils and dampers) - basically the same suspension layout as the Range Rover and S1 Discovery. Land Rover stopped using leaf springs after the Series 3 in the early 1980s, to coincide with the D90 and 110 being introduced.
The first edition 90 and 110 were not called D90 D110 they were just called Land Rover 90/110.which came in 21/4 petrol or 2.5 Na engine or turbo version of which the latter engine was useless that split the pistons in two halves through poor design .the D90/110 edition only came after the TDI engine came into being ..
@@craigpimlott204 this is true - although I suspect for the general viewership, the key difference is this generation 'Land Rover' body shape - with the flat grille (and not the recessed Series grille) is the simplest way to differentiate whether they had leaf springs or coils.
@@craigpimlott204 you're spitting hairs now, but ok... If someone wants to build a Series V8, then I suppose they can fit leaf springs to their chassis and modify an RC4WD Defender body to more closely replicate it.
So exited haven't had a trail rig in 2 years or any rc I've wanted a gelande 2 since it came out. Just ordered it shipped and tax I paid 470usd I think that's an amazing price for what you get with this. Can't wait for it to get here. Hoping to see some more videos of it whole I wait as not many with this body available on RU-vid. My favorite body btw I've been waiting for a pickup body.
👍 on the back window slogan! Love the Heritage green P/U body, but this rig needs the white steelie or Wolf 12 hole steel wheels painted in heritage green to match the body IMO. Looks like an interesting ROC Hobby MB scaler project on the shelf.
Dang RC4WD really pulled out all the stops for the scale details on that body. Coming into this video I was not too interested, but once you showcased all those scale details that were right out of the box I was impressed. Almost made me want to get one.
I still have never owned a RC4WD product.... This would change that! Just got to find a way to buy one... Excellent review Matt!! 👍👍 Please stay SAFE! 😷 Carmine ✈🚂🚙
Matt you may already know and you will search before you do the weathering but Remember Defenders are aluminum body so the weathering must be different than rust waiting to see what you will come up to
I've held out nearly a decade for this thing but it's recently grabbed my attention. Doesn't have radius arms but the 4-link rear and 3-link + ph up front is close enough to realistic I think I'm sold on that. Yota II axles instead of the older Yota with the worse steering, that's a win. Better servo, that's a win. Better ESC, my goodness, that's more than a win, the old Outcry was a piece of junk. Love the interior, love the .. well, everything! Time to finally grab one to celebrate the decade this thing's been out, I guess! That, and a nice cup of tea :)
Kuddos to them on including both style mirrors. Twister servo specs: Speed: 0.16sec/60°(@6.0V) Torque: 277.6oz·in / 20kg·cm(@6.0V) Speed: 0.14sec/60°(@7.2V) Torque: 305.3oz·in / 22kg·cm(@7.2V)
Totally agree with you on a light kit, rc4wd basic light kits are pretty good and cheap 13-15 bucks for the ones I have, wish they would throw them in!!
Having to look 👀 at this one again...!! Only one or two others have even covered this model I like so much, but not covering it as well as you, I do hope you cover some upgrades and improvements to this soon...!! 😎👍✅
I have the 1/8 Defender 110 from Double E through Banggood they do both 4 door body styles chassis' reliability is questionable but the detail is just as good as the RC4WD and only cost 180 usd bargain with plenty of cash left over to get new gearbox and axles!
Hey, hope to see a weather tutorial on this, as I assume you will maybe use washes.. I need to learn washes.. I know there are lots of tutorials, but I'd rather listen to you talk.
For weathering. Hate seeing ppl who rust the whole defenders, they're aluminum! Does rust a lot on the chassis, bulkhead and rear tailgate. The paint tends to chip on lower doors, hinges and behind the rear fenders. There's always scratches down the sides and a dent between the door and the rear wheel. Just a few tips from a Land Rover owner, tho doubt you'll need it 😉 can't wait to see what you do 😊
Heck! I want that body attachment system for my older 110! It's just tooooooooo easy to destroy the body, even when you just nip up the silly little, unrealistic, socket head screws! Bolts should always have load spreading washers to tighten onto plastic!
You probably will be waiting a while, i order simple rims tires 14 days ago RC4WD said yeah its in stock, in stock in another country and when get to USA it will first go to California then to me in NC so i another 3-8 days when it finally shows up. And all they have to say is be patient. Yeah thanks i should have canceled soon as i realized wasnt even in U.S .....hate them 4 this
Not a bid fan of these rigs myself. But there is definitely a market for it. I do think this is one of the better looking ones I have seen. Look forward to seeing the changes that you plan for this thing. thumbs up of course.. I wont mention your petite hands when it comes to one handed driving with the controller.. Or will I? LMAO
As are the steel 8-spoke wheels - a popular 'budget' upgrade in the 1:1 Land Rover world is a set of white Weller wheels, while the RC4WD tyre does look a lot like the original BF Goodrich All-Terrain tread pattern.
do you know if they sell the body separtely or do you need to buy the rtr to get it? as i already have a G2 D90 frame sitting around needing a body shell. the old body is currently getting a GCM racing Delta Chassis!
Hey there I got some noob questions I am new to RC vehicles I just got this same rc4wd d90 pickup as a gift from my wife after watching your video and a few other videos you mentioned I need to add loctite to all the bolts and add oil to the shocks? What kind of oil would you recommend?
I’m having issue with my gelande II d90 autobiography edition. The screw on the servo horn is scrapping the bottom plate of the servo. Anyone else having this issue ?
Its the same kit as the d90!? I'll just wait for that body kit to be available and save a ton of money! I already have the same kit, just replace the body for that one.
I’d kill to have a defender in the U.S. but they are way too expensive here. Definitely my favorite “Jeep” style vehicle. Followed by the new jimny mostly because you can’t get those here either.
Had a 1966 International Scout in the mid 70s that would be Really close to this in size, and they Were really small to wit a four cylinder engine in it. That’s as close to a L R Defender I’ve had as the 3 Jeeps don’t count in that class. 🤔🤭. 👍
very very great model d90 singke pickup, heritage british truck vehicle, timeless model so classic so beauty short truck. license body what else perfect
your a strange cat, brother;)!! i love your video's mang,LOL i've wanted a d90 for a few years, i think this might be a good time to get one, love my tf2's.......... stay groovy bro!!!!!
Certainly! SORRCA.com publishes a set of rules for competing. We run a class below Class 1 that has a few more requirements: Must use a tire under 4.19" that is branded in the real world, full tire tuck, must have one opening panel, full interior, and hard body. Other than the tires, this truck is ready for that!
Still looking at this but I think 🤔 that Four pin Body to Frame connection 6:30 🕡 Is a Deal Breaker for me, Unless the On-Off switch can be utilized WITHOUT unpinning it...!! Oh, wait O minute... is THAT it at 8:19 While you were talking about the Axels..!!??? 🤷🏻♂️🤔
Scale Builder's Guild, I didn’t find (at the time) how to get hold of them, I Have to order by phone ☎️. But I did find one in nordern kallie’forn I A. That should be her in a few days now, I also like the tires & wheels you mentioned too, we’ll see, 🤷🏻♂️I might need some more advice on things to do to it and hope you mess with the one you have some more 😎👍✅
I must be thinking of Series III, but, after doing some research, Defenders are radius arm front with a three link rear. So not totally correct, but close enough! Thanks for your comment!
@@scalebuildersguild yes, you could always use the upper Y link from an HPI Venture chassis to more accurately replicate the upper link on the rear of a Range Rover/Defender chassis.
It would be nice if someone machined some proper hockey-stick radius arms/mounts for the front axle too, then you could remove that single upper link and just rely on the panhard rod.
Hey Josh those are not yota 2 axels they are the old yota 1 axels because the axel splits in the middle and you need too let people know that right away...#SBG
*TOO FAR* 🇬🇧🇬🇧 🤣🤣 the body looks awesome and I kinda like the wheels, the chrome or white 8 spokes where the goto wheel back in the day over here be it a mk2 Escort, Mini or 4x4, and with a classic looking body I’d have to go leafs 👍
Why do all cool crawlers always cost $800-$900 bro, it’s tuff to BS the wife a little with a price tag like these. I’m breaking down all the numbers right now for the wife to make her understand why this makes sense to purchase instead of me build. Already have 3 of these so one more won’t hurt.
