RC-618B Chassis repair. When it arrived it was pretty much inop. I changed a few tubes. Replaced all of those troublesome wax/paper caps. Plays well now.
I have been learning to do these tube radio rebuilds with the help of a friend in Indiana. I love these old tube radios, and I have a number of them to do of my own. It was simply getting too expensive to send them out to get fixed!! I really like your videos, and am approaching the rebuild process as you do. Thanks!!
I am new to working on these old tube radios and amps. I have successfully repaired a rca 45 player with an amp in it. Model 45-HY-4. It really sounds great now. Anyways, I enjoy your videos immensely. Very informative to help me be even more confident and successful in repairing these vintage tube sets. Thanks!!
You inspired me to finally get my HAM technician ticket (exam Thursday), and now you have inspired me to finish restoring the old radios I have. thanks FF
You left the color-coded "black beauty" or bumblebee cap? They're far worse than the wax ones, I was changing them out leaky in the late 60s in equipment that was only a few years old. Good video
Hi Terry. I'm super overwhelmed... one of my friends gave me a Harmon Kardon TA-7000X receiver to look at. EGAD... that's one fancy critter. I put it on my channel... but holy smoke is that gonna be work.
what can I use to safely clean the chaise from dirt and dust and whatever else is on the radio? and what can I use to clean the plastic on the outer shell of the radio?
Very helpful video. Thanks! I’ve just begun working on an RCA 28X5 radio (circa 1940). Initial tests show it to be working, though poorly. I intend to replace all the caps following the steps in your video. I also have noticed that the insulation on nearly all the wiring is dried out leading to numerous cracks in it. The wiring in the unit is so convoluted that I’m not sure I should mess with it. I’m not trying to restore the radio, only make it safe to operate. Do you view cracked insulation as a key safety issue such that I should replace all the wiring? Thanks again!
Only one thing more I wouldve Done. I noticed a couple of bumble bees in there that I wouldve went ahead and swapped out because they were notorious even when new for cracking and shorting. Im an 80 year old RETIRED Tech that started out taking electronics as a Vocational course when I was in high school then went into mechanics after I got out of the army but went back to electronics after I retired and now build and repair computers as a Hobby
Hey I have a Philco 38-4 that I’m trying to restore. I have been watching your videos and I have learned a lot so far but it’s still a little overwhelming, do you have any certain videos I should check out to help or any advice in general?
hi terry.....i need a pc of info if you have ran across this: on the 58-60-ish era shc-7 stereo amplifier units with the tape-phono-tuner inputs and the L-R spkr outs( the RCA jack to one 1/2 of the cabinet spkrs and other tranny feeding the other pair using common ground....were there multiple schems for stereo units and for consoles sold with a dedicated second spkr cab? my slide switch is not wired per the available schem from radio museum...but *is the 3x6cg7 / 2x 6v6 layout,. "help" if you can ...OR any of your readers . thank you love your stuff
