RCBS should post this video on their Case Master site page. Their videos never show the full features of their products and how to use them for best results. I received this Case Master the other week from Midway USA after viewing this video. For the price, this gauge is GREAT! Got down to measuring many of my boxed rounds and fired cases as well as some new Lapua cases. It's amazing how acentric (non-concentric) even Federal Match (Sierra SMK) .308W ammunition is... up to 0.007" (measured near the tip) acentric on some examples. Anyway, this new tool really opens my eyes on the potential terminal consistency of individual cartridges. Really fun and educational to play around with. I'll be using this for sorting my boxed ammo, and of course for assembling long-range rounds. As Eagle Eye and others have shown, marking the high or low position of the acentricity (very rarely is an assembled cartridge perfectly concentric) and consistently indexing those markings within the rifle's chamber considerably improves shooting consistency. Thanks for the very informative vid!

Head separation can be checked with a bent paper clip. Read that in years ago in Handloader magazine. But that tool is handy.

Excellent explanation. I’ve been using mine for about 20 years. Lost the incipient case separation scribe tool. Will get another one. Thanks for posting the video.

That's a cool tool, I hadn't heard about these before this. I'm interested to hear about that neck turning tool as well I've been thinking of trying that out. Great videos with good information!

Thanks! So, what kind of groups do you shoot? They say reloading is easy, but can be overwhelming for sure.

I received my case master today and tried out the different functions. One thing I would suggest you try, and I stumbled upon it by accident. Put your dial on the edge of the sleeve and slowly rotate it. You should see no variation as I have none with mine. Then slip a case mouth over the stud under the bottom of the sleeve. With some downward pressure turn the sleeve as you rotate the case (same direction, it works quite smoothly in measuring your neck thickness. You can't measure accurately turning the case and not turning the sleeve also because of the friction...

Interesting, I'll give that a try this weekend when I'm playing around with some new cases I got. Thanks!

Since you have much more experience at this stuff I would appreciate some feedback on my discovery once you've tried it, thank you

Take a wooden stirring paint stick glue a rubber pad the whole 12 in of it and use that to put pressure on the brass instead of doing it with your fingers and having tha gauge bounce because of uneven pressure

reloading exactly may be for exact optimal per ammo.... for long long distance... yeah.. can see its useful...

RCBS dropped the ball with their video... thank you for going through how to use this tool. Your video provided all the information needed to decide if I wanted to buy it or not. One question: have you noticed an improvement in your accuracy since you started using it? Proof is in the pudding.
@vaughnprecision

Sam Bonz absolutely I've noticed a huge difference in accuracy. This will allow you identify issues and sort out cases that don't meet the specs.! Thanks for the comment and watching.!

Do you need to purchase a micrometer if you have this concentricity gauge?

Do you happen to know the model number for that snapon caliper or have a recommendation on one?
@vaughnprecision
@vaughnprecision 7 лет назад
The Snap-On Model Number is a CAL6E If you can't find one of those, I like Central Tools also. Good quality.

Wouldn't the case(like dents or scratches) make this method questionable?

I just got done watching your loading room remodel vids and couldn't remember what it looked like before so I came back and revisited this vid. Do you miss your pegboard you had up before? Is the new room all done now, completely? If you want to correct runout you've detected with the RCBS Casemaster, try the tool from Tru-Tool Equipment.com. It works well but good brass and a properly fitting seating stem negates its use.
@vaughnprecision

I don't miss the pegboard at all. The shelving is much nicer I think. I'll check out the link you sent!

Since you have both runout tools, why don't you use the same round on them to compare results? I've done it (along with my Sinclair tool) and I think the results will surprise you.Anybody ever tell you that you sound just like Seth Rogen? LOL
@vaughnprecision
@vaughnprecision 7 лет назад
Luvta Handload I've done that, I'm shocked at the difference. I've found the Hornady tool to be a little more finicky due to how the case rides in the tool. You sir are the first to ever say I sound like Seth Rogen. But after listening to myself and Seth, you might be right lol

Unfortunately this video was a total waste of time due to the fact I couldn't hear a word you were saying even with the volume cranked full-up. Really a shame to put so much effort into it and blow it on sound quality. I will try again later with headphones.

buellosaurusrex it looks like this is a RU-vid issue. I had a couple videos I tried to watch this morning and I had the same issue. Give it a try again, I was able to get the audio on a couple computers just fine. Not sure what's happening.

I was able to hear it by turning off everything in the room, still very quiet but doable...which is great, because I just ordered one of these. Very informative, thank you!
