Good idea. I always used Hornady cleaner and dry lube to clean my dies, but will try this as well. Thanks

AR15 bolt carriers is why I'm thinking of ultra sonic cleaners. Actually bolts and slides in general. Got plenty of reloading dies need deep cleaning also. On Amazon I read a lot of bad reviews on other available sonic cleaners which steered me to old reliable RCBS. A piece of equipment or a tool needs longevity or it might as well be landfill material.

Thanks for the vid! Interested to see the brass cleaning results.

how did this work out long term? I love the simplicity if it actually holds up against corrosion as advertised.

Gavin...great video, as usual! Question...can you safely clean the powder measure parts such as the powder die, powder drop tube, and powder bushings w/o it removing the black factory coating? Thanks!

Hey mate. I’ve cleaned a brand new Forster universal bullet puller and in just 40 seconds the black finish came right off. The seller recons that he would not clean items as such in an ultrasonic cleaner at all. I do however clean all my RCBS dies in my ultrasonic cleaner for a couple of years now with now adverse effect on the black finish.

might want to do some corrosion protection.

Personally I prefer to use mineral spirits when cleaning dies or firearms components, I dry with compressed air and wipe down with a light coat of Ballistol (To make the garage smell manly,....or not, your mileage may vary.).

Glad I read the comments! No on Lee dies. Quick question, does the protective film stay on even when wiping off the excess solution or is it on there good enough not to worry about wiping it off?
@ronaldjohnson1474
@ronaldjohnson1474 5 месяцев назад
From the Lee comment, I'd say their anti-rust film causes more harm than good.

So in your opinion is this the best cleaner for Brass?

I recently received about thirty reloading dies from an older gentleman. They were in his basement and are slightly rusty. Are they salvageable and could I clean them in this manner?
@FreeWhiteNorth
@FreeWhiteNorth 3 года назад
Probably if there's only a little rust on them. Use the ultrasonic cleaner with a mix of vinegar (and can't remember what else). It'll remove the rust. Look it up here, there's a good video on YT on rust removal with ultrasonic cleaning solution. It'll give you the correct mix ratio

Where did you get that basket? It is perfect. Will not scratch gun parts.

I use the Lyman gun lube in the ultrasonic cleaner after cleaning all metal parts.

I bought some reloading eqipment from an old guy who isn't reloading anymore and when I got home I saw the dies had quite a bit of rust on them. What are some solutions to get rid of the rust?
@Ultimatereloader
@Ultimatereloader 6 лет назад
I would use a wire brush wheel (on grinder or drill) on the outside of the parts, and chuck up the die if you can to spin it, and use fine steel wool on the inside. Best of luck!

I'm interested in this cleaner for cleaning my AR15 bolt carrier and the bolts for my hunting rifles. Is this a good option or is there another manufacturer that you'd recommend?

These work great, and I'm about to do a video and blog post on their latest version (bigger)!

Can't wait to see that. So when will that video be available and what model is it? I don't need anything monstrous for gun parts, I just want something that works and won't break in a month.

I got a cleaner and used in on my rifle bolts, fully assembled bolts. I used hot solution then I rinsed with hot water to encourage evaporation. I then blew the bolt out thoroughly with my air compressor and oiled. Is there any risk of rust or seizing in the bolt if I cleaned it this way?

Has anyone cleaned Lee Precision dies in their RCBS ultrasonic cleaner with good results? I ran my Lee Precision ultimate die set in 9mm in my RCBS ultrasonic cleaner, and it caused flash corrosion immediately after I pulled them out. I had shop air ready and sprayed the water and solution off right away. Nothing sat.

What solution were you using?
@philiply7848

@@Ultimatereloader RCBS ultrasonic weapons cleaner. Which is why I'm kinda baffled. I watched your video before I cleaned my dies. I suspect that the metal composition or coating on the RCBS dies vs the Lee are different. You probably have better knowledge on that though. Not sure what Lee does in terms of heat treating/finishing on their dies. In any case, I'm going to take my Dremel and polishing pad and clean up the inside/outside and apply a thin coating if oil and hopefully this will solve my problem.

Gaven 2 questions When doing Brass do you have to heat up the Solution and no.2 Do you use plain Tap water or Distilled water
@Ultimatereloader
@Ultimatereloader 9 лет назад
Terry LeGrand Terry- I'm not sure if you have to heat the solution, but I do because it helps quicken drying time, and helps the brass clean better. I'm just using tap water, but if I were cleaning a gun or gun parts and didn't want to risk mineral deposits, I'd use distilled water.

Question for all you guys who are experienced in this stuff. I cleaned my dies in the same solution that I clean my brass. The dies came out black. Have I stuffed my dies or is this normal, or can I just clean them again in the right solution.
@Ultimatereloader
@Ultimatereloader 7 лет назад
Brass cleaning and parts cleaning solutions are different, sounds like you used the wrong solution! :(
@psruhan
@psruhan 7 лет назад
Yeah thanks guys. I found the solution that I was supposed to use. Ran the dies through a couple of times and they came out fine. Luckily I didn't stuff them.

DONT do this on LEE dies. After 6 mins, the Lee dies rusted. Caveat: Galvin used RCBS. I used a Hornady Ultrasonic machine with Hornady Gun Cleaning Solution.

I don't think I'll be using this method for carbide dies. An extra layer of film could cause brass to stick, which carbides are designed to avoid.
