Steel challenge style competitions are also a great way to practice transitions with some added time and competition stress. Would highly recommend for skill validation on transitions.
By far the best content on RDS fundamentals that I have ever seen. Been waiting for a Glock 48 MOS - yesterday they said maybe in 6 months! Going to buy an RDS for my Glock 19 and have the slide cut while I'm waiting. Must find a better place to practice these skills. Thanks Aaron for the consistent high quality of your videos.
I do most of my dry fire practice in my basement with a SIRT I’ve got a series of 3” pasters stuck on the walls, in the hall and on the other side of doors etc and I move around or stay static and transition thru them in different orders , distances and shot counts I’ll call the shot , trigger and then move my eye to the next target as my training is competition based I feel the SIRT mimics my live fire RDS training as I can see the “hits” in the same way I can see my Holosun 507C flash on target as I trigger Most of my live fire training is indoor and I’ll always set up multiple targets , even if separated my only 12” , I feel it’s worth consistently practicing transitions however u can
Dunno if you know about it, but you can now get a really dumb looking - although it more or less does seem to work - "red dot" for the SIRT; there is nothing in the window, just an opening, the idea being that you use the SIRTs aiming laser as a faux red dot, pretending that it's in the window and not actually projected on the target. IMO It is overpriced for what it does, but from a training perspective it sounds like it _might_ be worth it for you...with the caveat that, since it is using the takeup laser as "the red dot" you are only going to get the benefit if pretending it's a red dot in those situations where you would normally have your finger on the trigger anyway (hence part of the reason why I think it is overpriced, since it doesn't truly mimic a red dot).
@@brandon3883 Ya - I was looking at that Doodad on the NXLT website Just like the SIRT itself , it only sort of mimics reality - I do swing the shot laser around sometimes at targets as it stays on until u reset the trigger But dry fire with my real firearm and optic works best for dot acquisition drills etc But I used the SIRT 107 for a lot of drills while my range was shutdown and I was off work as it has the same grip angle as my iron sight CZ’s I came out a few months later a legit better shooter - so there’s definitely a place for the SIRT if used properly - I grip it like it’s going to recoil etc
@@stovepipe8966 yep, definitely helps if used correctly. I've got a MantisX10, which I haven't been able to use for its recoil feedback and other live-fire-only aspects due to seemingly never-ending series of medical issues happening when lockdowns are not in effect, and resolving when the lockdowns start again, but even if you only use it for dry fire (which I did a lot of with the original MantisX, before upgrading it to the X10) I 100% know it made me a better shooter when (before The Worst Year Ever happened) I originally bought it: I had started going to the range again after a long time of not practicing live fire, saw how awful I was and so ordered one, then used it at home for about a month to get baseline feedback on things I was doing poorly (including proving to me things I thought I was doing, such as flinching in anticipation of the shot rather than as part of recoil management). Next time I went to the range I couldn't believe how much better I was, especially on the flinching front. (Then again I was a piss-poor shot to begin with, so pretty much _anything_ that could improve my skills was/is noticeable...YMMV.) I just had a thought on the SIRT front: if you want to train with it with a MRDS on it to match up with your carry gun, why not buy one of those super cheap red dots that places like Optics Planet sells, plus a similarly cheap dovetail mount for it (or if you've already got that SIRT "red dot", you could just cut off the top and drill mounting holes in it)? I bet you could put that together for under $50 if that..?
Outstanding training tips. I really liked what you said about changing directions on multiple target drills. I love shooting box and diamond drills but it's really easy to get shooting the targets in the same order on each leg.
I cant say how much you videos have help me. I just went to a red dot on pistol. Like 2 weeks ago. And doing some of your drills and what your saying to do has help me better myself so much. Still need to train with it some more bit thank you
Good info as always. I’ve found the best pressure testing for me is shooting Idpa- carry optics. It will force you to get comfortable with Rds quick in all different scenarios that change every match. If you can find ammo. 🙁
Curious if you're still shooting your Firehawk. That's such a spectacular pistol, but I keep waiting for it to make another appearance in your content. Do you "save" it for some special occasion or application?
Idk if you already have one but you should really consider doing a whole series on dvds/stream/download type and put it for sale. I really think it would benefit shooters on different levels and we can refer back to them according to our level or skill we are trying to build on. Fyi
I think Aaron uses a 25 yard on handguns. I personally like 15 yards (because I’m not good enough to worry about 25 yet lol) but Aaron knows way more than me.
Can you do a review on the sight mark mini shot fms. Sight mark seems to be putting out much better quality and for the price they seem hard to beat against vortex
@@vonherebroadsword3263 I don't doubt that for a second. I'm keen to learn how to use one. Don't have a pistol that is milled, so I'm gonna have to take that plunge. Current carry is g43x.
