*Event*
On March 26th at 9 pm the jazz-techno-phenomenon “Jazzrausch Bigband” will present their new album “téchne” at a digital release concert within the spectacular setting of the exhibition “Thierry Mugler: Couturissime” at the Kunsthalle München. Since the 1970s, Mugler has repeatedly succeeded in revolutionizing the fashion world and shaping pop culture. In the midst of 150 creations of his haute couture, the concentrated creativity of the Jazzrausch Bigband unfolds into a brilliant release show full of passionate individuality and explosive techno jazz. The event is part of series “Re-Act!”, a cooperation between Kunsthalle München and the Harry Klein Club, one of Germany’s leading clubs for electronic music, and is supported by the label ACT Music.
*Jazzrausch Bigband*
„A lively analogue range of electronic dance variations. Big band jazz, dance beats and soulful vocals blend into an oppulent disco sound.“ (Rolling Stone). Jazzrausch Bigband was founded in 2014 by Roman Sladek in Munich and under his leadership played over 600 concerts internationally, making it one of the most successful big bands in the world. The bands’ unique and intelligent mix of techno sound and big band jazz excites both, listeners in concert halls and dancers in the clubs. Since 2015, the ensemble, consisting of 25 musicians, has been artist in residence at the renowned Munich techno club "Harry Klein". Based on this unique cooperation, the Jazzrausch Bigband and its lead composer Leonhard Kuhn define the completely new genre “Techno-Jazz”. With their new album “téchne”, the band once again impressively demonstrates their unique perspective on the artistic interaction of cultural and humanistic topics. The program title refers to the ancient Greek term "τέχνη", which stands for a key idea of European philosophy, bridging art, science and technology. With their album and release show, the young musicians reflect their awareness of the flowing transitions between these levels - compositionally and lyrically and incorporating mathematical, philosophical and literary topics and translating these into a unique blend of jazz, classical and techno, performance, light, and sound.
*“Thierry Mugler: Couturissime” at the Kunsthalle München*
For the first time, the work Thierry Mugler - creator, director, photographer and perfumer - is being presented in a brilliantly staged exhibition. Over 150 haute couture and prêt-à-porter creations, unpublished archival material and works by world-famous photographers highlight three decades of the Frenchman’s work. Since the 70s, Mugler has succeeded in revolutionizing the world of high fashion and influencing pop culture. He was drawn to unusual materials such as metal, faux fur, vinyl and latex to produce his futuristic, glamorous designs, thereby creating epoch-making garments that radiate both a sensual as well as powerful femininity. The exhibition was initiated and produced by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Maison Mugler which restored the designer’s heritage couture. “Thierry Mugler: Couturissime” will be shown in the Kunsthalle Munich until the end of April, 2021.
*Re-Act!*
The cooperation between the Kunsthalle München and the Harry Klein Club has been ongoing for six years. For the format “Re-Act! Art and Club ”, Kunsthalle and Harry Klein team up once per exhibition to make art a new experience. “Re-Act!” is more than a party in an unusual location. Visual and musical artists are inspired by the works of art and DJs provide the right sound on the dance floor in the café of the Kunsthalle until midnight. The appearance of the Jazzrausch Bigband in the exhibition “Thierry Mugler: Couturissime” is now transferring “Re-Act!” into the digital world.
