It's time to reassemble this kitchen faucet to repair the leaking or dripping by replacing the moentrol 1225B cartridge inside this Moen tap.
This is the tap where the lever lifts up and down as well as turns.

Thank you for this. You made it very straightforward and easy.

Thanks, I have the same style of faucet. The spout was not much for swiveling in the sink, sort of stiff and rigid. Then it started to leak on the top and base of the swivel and then it was time to address it. Used your post to replace the 'O' rings. Now no leaks and the spout swivels too. Saved a visit from the plumber.

I seem to have trouble replacing the handle every time-- it fits down into the valve properly, but I have to fuss with that handle for 10 minutes or so just to get it to seat right. Other than that I thank you for making this video. It helped me out! I know now the valve kit is 1225B thanks to you

Darn. I tried putting the handle back on to use as a lever to pry that cartridge out and I chipped off a piece of the plastic from the handle. Now I'm off to home depot to buy a new faucet. And a faucet wrench. So much for Moen for life.

Where did you find the O rings And Cartridge and what the part number for the O rings and Cartridge. My Moen faucet is m7 800 it looks like your wondering will these parts work for mine
@handymanreality
@handymanreality 3 года назад
Hi Barry, I cannot find that model number on the www.moen.ca website you could double check the model number or try entering it into the www.moen.com Often what you could do is disassemble the faucet and pull the cartridge then take the cartridge & o-rings to your nearest www.homedepot.ca store and ask the plumbing department to access the warranty parts for your faucet.

Take the cartridge out and spin it around 180 degrees. Moen cartridges do this when installed upside down.

I just replace all that you did, fixed the reason for repairers. I also have a small pin hole under the kneck. what can I use to seal this jb weld? I have the same faucet you worked on. The leak is about 2 inches up from the bottom of the underside kneck from the base.

What a day. I've done this a number of times in the past but today no luck. I could not even remove the old cartridge, so I though I'd just reassemble things with a bit of grease. Now I'm looking for hints as to how to get the handle back on. It's always been a mystery but tonight (should have been this afternoon) I cannot get that dang thing in place. Grrrrrrrrr
@handymanreality
@handymanreality 6 лет назад
mottledbrain The handle is a little tricky because it needs to hook into place as it is slid down onto the brass stub of the cartridge. I hope that helps you some.

Good news Handyman, I just sat down. Finally. The tap is back together and working properly after an number of re-assemblies. Now if only the initial problem would go away - it still leaks at times where the base of the spout meets the chrome plate. The new O-ring kept the spout too far off the plate (not quite the right model I guess) and the plastic thingy (someone referred to it as a bearing (you perchance?) ) has a break in it. One video suggested that it is supposed to be that way. Another day ... God bless and good night. - Reg

Thank you for posting this video. It Was very helpful because there are a lot off videos on how to take the mown cartridge out but this is the only one that I could find on how to put the whole thing back together again. I am however having a problem putting the retainer clip back on and I'm not sure why. Any suggestions?

My mom's faucet is just like the one in the video. I replaced the cartridge and everything seemed fine. Turn the water back on and pulled the handle to turn it on but when I push down to turn it off, it still trinkles unless I turn the handle to the right/cold side. When I took the top back off I noticed the stem isn't going all the way back down to block the flow. Maybe I got a bad part. The O rings are fine and not dry rot or cracked at all. Any suggestions on why the new stem isn't pushing back down all the way with the handle?
@handymanreality
@handymanreality 3 года назад
There is a small metal washer that goes on the stem before the handle is reinstalled is it there?
@thebewitchinghour831
@thebewitchinghour831 3 года назад
@@handymanreality Yes. Actually when I took her handle off, the whole part came off in one piece. It didn't separate from the washer. It was actually one whole piece onto the inside of the on-off handle. And I slid the metal clip back into place also after pushing the filter back down. I tried calling Moen today but hold time was long and they wanted you to leave a phone number to call you back within the next business day. Poor customer service. lol Thank you for your fast response and the tutorial. I was watching and pausing through the whole process. Great detailed video. I'll go back over tomorrow and try to jimmy with it again.
@thebewitchinghour831
@thebewitchinghour831 3 года назад
@@handymanreality No. There wasn't one when I took it off. The brass clip that goes through the stem is all that was there. I laid everything on the counter in the order that I removed them so I could put them back in reverse. I'll try to reach out to Moen again today. Their hold times are long and they want you to leave a message with a call back number. I appreciate your dedication to try to help. I went to the Plumber Supply near where I live and the guy was beside himself. It turns off at the 4 & 8 o'clock mark but if you deviate from those two spots it still runs. There was nothing in the instructions to say what position the stem should be when you put it back in and by time I got done using the removal tool, it had rotated the whole thing so I have no idea how the original was facing. Or should be facing when put back in.

@@handymanreality You are a wonderful person. I finally got a hold of Moen and walked the lady through the diagram as to what I was seeing. It is the cap of the handle assembly that's not engaging. Therefore, the whole handle is bad. Now the decision is to buy a replacement handle from them for $62.00 plus what I paid for the cartridge $22.00 (mom is not the original owner so no warranty) or just go ahead and buy the new faucet with the coupon code the lady sent to my email. Thank you so very much for extra time. Keep up the great videos.

@handymanreality
@handymanreality 4 года назад
The challenge with this faucet is how the handle needs to sort of hook into the faucet before it seats correctly. I recall it is all in the handle install that solves your new issues.
@JasonJonesoriginal
@JasonJonesoriginal 6 лет назад
I see one big o ring around the base and one smaller one at the top. Was there a 2nd smaller one at the top? When I took mine apart it had one smaller one and then a section right above it that was full of old rubber that looked like it could have been an old o ring.
@handymanreality
@handymanreality 6 лет назад
Jason Jones it only has the two o-rings for the spout. A large one at the bottom and a smaller one at just above midway. The cartridge takes care of the rest of the water sealing.

Great tutorial - put the new cartridge in, re-assembled (exact same model faucet as your from the look of it) and now there is a tiny steady stream of water when the handle is centered over the faucet in the 'off' position -- the set screw is very tight, but not sure why there's a new more prominent leak. Any thoughts?
@andrewmarchetti8724
@andrewmarchetti8724 8 лет назад
Hey Don! It's as if the handle is not secured tight enough. I pull it up and water comes out just fine, but I cannot turn off the water by pushing the handle down for some reason. I can only push on the top of the cap to stop the flow of water - then there's a steady (tiny) trickle out of the spigot. The handle only seems to lever up and left/right, but not back down again. So it's no longer a leak I guess, but more that now it's been reassembled, the handle is somehow not arranged correctly even though it fits on the nut, centers on the cartridge, screws into the cartridge and the cap fits back ontop ---
@andrewmarchetti8724
@andrewmarchetti8724 8 лет назад
That did it! Thanks again Don - fits great and no more leaks!

Darlene Young you need to pull the cartridge & turn it 180

The gray ring you're installing at 0:50 cracked on me, and now water is spraying out from the bottom of the spout. Do I just reseat the assembly and tighten everything up, or do I need new parts? While I have the spout apart, should I go ahead and replace the O-rings as well? What about the cartridge? I think it's a Moen Chateau 7430. Thanks!

Good job on everything you did except you did not hook your handle correctly when you installed it, the inside of the handle must be hooked on the nut holding the spout on, that's why the handle is loose.

John Correia if the tap stays running and won't shut off you need to remove the handle and reinsert it making sure that it hooks in to the faucet correctly. This is the part that gives most people issues. Just take a few deep breaths between attempts to keep calm. (This works for me)
