I also think that the original California is better than deluxe. I do however think that if they scarped a few from the original and threw in a few from deluxe, it would've ranked higher on my list.
Thanks for the cool video! I have the same feeling about the deluxe version. My fave is 6/8 and Hey i'm sorry. The rest of the songs are OK (some are weird and generic). I think it shouldn't be seen as a double album, rather as an album (the original california) with a bunch (unusual big amount) of bonus tracks. Tbh, for me it is a cool thing to bring out some recorded songs which didn't make the album as "bonus tracks", then just burry them :)
one of the biggest problems with the "california" albums was that there was a lot of +44 which was quite pop (I don't like that band) and some of that (Simple Creature) was horrible, and 000000.1 by Alkaline Trio, so much so that 6/8 is my favorite song, as it has a lot of Matt Skiba
I deffo preferred some of the stuff on here to the regular album but overall the generic pop punk sound and overuse of woahs does let the whole California album down a lot for me. The songwriting took a step down but I find songs like Misery, Cynical, Left Alone, 6/8 did have some good songwriting for example So Matt, Mark did pull out some good lyrics and melody’s but they’re not upto the level I know they could achieve but yeah the overuse of that two note guitar style riff did get annoying
Def like the deluxe more, but since they're still recycling the adam's song riff and overusing woahs it's not for me. this album just felt like they're using the scraps that didnt make through the og california production. I'm surprised hey i'm sorry is one of your favorites though, that song is so grating to my ears lol since theres so many woahs. wildfire and 6/8 are my favs.
I really liked it when it came out (hey i‘m sorry). That‘s why I mentioned it at the beginning of the Song. But I think it‘s kinda boring now… 6/8 is the best!
I think they put an extra song on Japan's version because they have to pay more for the album, so it's just an extra thank you. Great album, the only song I don't really like is Hey I'm Sorry. The rest are fantastic.
Matt is a better guitarist and vocalist than Tom, I really enjoyed Skiba era Blink, Im a little biased because I love Alkaline Trio. That being said Blink with Tom is a whole different animal, and is the trademark of the band.
