exactly me 😂 i fantasize about reading so many books rather than actually reading them. someone said buying books and reading them are two completely different hobbies and i wholeheartedly agree 😂
@@youngthrillayes bc if i want to read a book i can do that on my phone too, the text doesnt change. but if i want to BUY i a book i need to research different editions, covers etc. and get the nicest one 😂😂
Love the fact that you started the video by saying “I need to stop buying more, this a cry for help” … but who are we kidding? That’s not going to happen Congrats on having 1000+ books! Pretty sure that makes you officially our RU-vid resident librarian
I had 300+ books at one point. Majority went to my nieces and nephews. Most from when I was a child. The younger generation can enjoy them now. I prefer to have the space for knitting and crochet books ❤
I absolutely cannot believe you haven’t read Babel yet. I had many thoughts about that book, and still think about it months later. Is it my favourite book of all time? No. But it is thought provoking, and isn’t that basically the same thing.
i JUST reorganized my bookshelf last night! wow twins lmao i can't wait til you read the marriage portrait! it was one of my favorites this year!! i'm an art history girlie and was absolutely fed by that book. also your tbr trolley helped me organize my bookshelf (aka i stole your idea but just dedicated a shelf instead of an actual trolley)!
wait you’re coming to Bulgaria?? omg that’s so cool!! i hope you’ll have time to explore some of the natural beauties of my country bc it’s really worth it and i hope you like the cuisine!
You could make a video called “reading books by color” so for the review only reading orange books or green books. I would live to watch that. Much love from Austria🫶
one of the books i’ve been really wanting to read but never gotten around to is book thief- now that you’ve included it in the list of books you’ll save from a burning fire i’ll read it soon! …probably. maybe not.
Thanks for always recommending great books. I've lost count of how many times I paused this video to add books to my Goodreads TBR. Thanks, Jack! Now my wallet will be R.I.P.
Last time The Discomfort of Evening made it to the trolley, but I think it stayed unread. I’m soo curious what you will think of it! Maybe plan a trip to The Netherlands, and start reading Dutch authors? 😊
jack i NEED you to read the end of loneliness by benedict wells!! i read it in its original language (german) and its SUCH a good book and i think you’d really like it!
Say you start reading at age 3, and you read on average 1 book a week, and you have a copy of every book you've ever read, and you assume that you might live to be about 93 - that gives you a fairly predictable lifetime book count. It means that 5,000 books is easily a "lifetime supply".
I was wondering if you have a specific strategy for choosing books that you buy/ want to read? Recently I read an article from Ted Gioia (he has a substack newsletter called the honest broker about music and sometimes literature) about his life long reading plan. He chooses topics he wants to know more about i.e. American History and reads a bunch of books about this. Personally, the books on my TBR are recommendations from friends/ people on the internet that I like and from these "100 books you have to read before you die" lists. I'm curious if you Jack and dear comment reader have a plan or not :)
I know that you're trying to buy less books. But, I have to recommend "Gay Poems for Red States" by Willie Edward Taylor Carver Jr. I loved it and feel like more people need to read it.
We need a book tag video! The one where you read a tag and select a book from your shelf accordingly. U have so many(personal library) that it would be so fun to watch you searching for one particular book from your 1000+ 😂😂. I mean, I don't wanna torture you into searching such a huge collection, but I kinda do. 😅😂
Every time I realise I picked up the same book as Jack I begin to feel so accomplished (even if I haven’t gotten around to reading it yet haha)!! My dad bought me Haunted Houses as a gift while we were in Brussels last year, this is the push to finally read it!
I really needed this today. I've been poorly for almost a week with what we thought was an ent infection, turns out it might be f-ing mono (don't ask me how, I'm the singlest pringle in the can and me and my family don't even share cutlery.) Anyway...I had to have my blood drawn which really exhausted me for some reason and because of its I didn't have any motivation to read. Thanks to you, I've found the motivation to read. Seriously, Jack, you have no idea how much you help all of us on a daily basis without meaning to. Thank you soooooooo much!
fellow bulgarian hereeee jack i honestly think you are going to love time shelter bc i ended up loving all the books u have ever recommended and i think we have a very similar taste in literature. literally screamed when u mentioned the book and your possible trip to bulgaria, please update us if you are really planning on it
Hey Jack! Wanted to let you know about the Philadelphia Bookstore Map, which was just released! It was a grassroots effort to create a map that shows all the bookstores in Philly--could be a fun video idea whenever you're in the US again!
@hollyjensen4557 omg that's amazing lol There's a lot of great spots on there! Uncle Bobbie's is very highly respected and really cool. Same with Harriet's. Book Corner, Giovanni's Room, Wooden Shoe, and Bookhaven are great. They're all across the city so that's not convenient lol but going to at least one of these will be a good time. You should be able to pick up the map at any of them
Okay, I’m incredibly excited for Time Shelter and I urge you to read it. I don’t think you have read a book by a Bulgarian author, so hey, representation! I just read a few pages of it, and I really liked it. He’s a great storyteller, especially in Bulgarian. I don’t know whether the translation does him justice, but I guess it does, because well, he won the award. Anyways, I’m looking forward to a review.
Nightbitch was for me one of those books i thought was just ok while reading, but its been a few months since and i still think about it all the time. On the other side, my life really would have just been exactly the same but with a few hours spared if I'd never read Really Good, Actually 😂
Hi Jack! This year I’ve been reading more and buying books than I ever have in my life. I had to buy a book shelf and now it’s full. I now have trouble organizing books I buy, but I love owning different editions and finding books from used bookstores. I have a desk that I put the books I’m reading or want to read soon. I like that you’e talking about the books you’re organizing and how you appreciate the covers. Saw your “Death of A Book Seller.” Have you read other fiction books that take place in a bookshop/library? I’ve read “The Lost for Words Bookshop” “How to Find Love in a Bookshop” and “Bloomsbury Girls.” It’s cool to read books with characters who also ❤ books. Good luck!
Hi Jack ✨ I am from Bulgaria and have been watching your lovely videos for a while now. I am super excited to hear that you are planning on reading a Bulgarian book and visiting our country 💛 Hopefully you enjoy both and i can't wait to hear your thoughts and opinions after ✨💛
I just finished In Memoriam after your video from Hay, and it is one of the most incredible books I have EVER read. It’s Song of Achilles meets WW1 and I think that’s all you need to know to know it’s beyond a 5 star read!
I would really like to hear your opinion on Time Shelter. I am bulgarian, the same as the author of the book and here in my country we take great pride of what he and the book have achieved, but I would really like to hear what a foreigner thinks 😊
Hey jack, would you consider making a video on the book that went viral on tiktok, after the author sat in an empty book signing. Would like to know your thoughts on it.
A book cart is a great reminder to read those books. I use a stack my bedside table as well as a certain designated bookshelf for my top TBR and borrowed books. I always try to flag a borrowed book or DVD with a post-it with the name of the owner on it. When it comes to destashing books, this is my method. I do it in short spates. I select ten books at a time. And I pick one of these categories: 1. Books I read and hated and don't want to share 2. Books I liked but won't re-read, which I can give away to friends or trade in 3. Outdated reference books or text books or non-fiction 4. Books that left me feeling "meh" (trade in or donate these) 5. Duplicates - either give them away or trade/donate 6. Books I stopped reading and have no desire to complete - just let go! You can always re-buy later if you regret it
Maybe, instead of reading non-Greek authors writing sluggish interpretations, that are usually inaccurate by academic standards, of a country that's not their own, you should try reading a book by an actual Greek author while in Greece? It's crazy how modern Greeks are perceived as completely irrelevant, even by people who apparently can't get enough of ancient Greek mythology retellings.
I always absolutely love your book selections! Some I know I’d never read (over my head lol) but I love seeing and hearing about them nonetheless. The same 5 books being touted over and over and over by other book tubers become nauseating very quickly. Thx for always being you! 🍁
