It looked perkier after just the tiny bit of pruning and repot. Sarcochilus, “Thank you, Matthew! In spring, I will reward your endeavors with a beautiful bloom.” ❤️🪴
I just love this type of orchid. in full bloom they are striking!! I love that they have that vanda look, can't wait to see those red blooms!! Happy growing
Love your videos Matthew! I live in Southern California and bought a bunch of seedling sarcochilus orchids from Sunset Valley Orchids. When it’s time to repot I will try your mixture as my orchids tend to struggle with root growth after repotting. An older seedling, called Velvet Fox and supposed to be a red flower, I bought via Etsy is down to one viable root since being repotted in April. It’s hanging in there and time will tell.
Thank you and thanks for watching!! Oh that's no good!!! What sort of mix have you got them in now? And I always add a dash of mycorrhizal fungi powder in my medium: it promotes healthy root growth and nutrient uptake. You'll be able to get it online anywhere. And I guess if a plant is struggling with poor roots don't be tempted to over compensate with watering! I just read Sunset Valley Orchids watering care info on their site - mine are far more neglected than they suggest! Good luck - with a few seedlings you can afford to experiment a bit with what care practice will work for you!
@@helloplantlovers Thanks Matthew, I have them in a repot me paph and phrag mix in repot me clear slotted plastic pots. I add a few bits of slow release when repotting. I fertilize weakly weekly with an orchid fert and flush 4 th week. They drain really well. We are in summer now and I’m growing them inside by an east window with a sheer curtain. I water twice a week now and the majority are growing like gangbusters so I think I’m on the right track. The one that is down to one root is now in a tiniest of tiny pot. I puta few drops of water a day on the root as the leaves are wrinkly. It’s on top the bark mix with a bit of sphagnum moss by the root. We are 3 weeks into this setup and the root is staying healthy and the leaves seem a little better. Time will tell. I also have a sarco on a piece of wood. Root production very poor. I soak every day. I will probably end up potting it next year if it doesn’t start to thrive. Anyhoo, have a wonderful day and thanks for all you do!
Can you tell me the name of the fungus that you used, I didn’t get the spelling. I live in Perth, so hope it’s available locally. Love your channel. I have dendrobiums and sarchcolus and epidendrums orchids. Do you have any tips on placing them on bark, cork please.
Hi there - I don't mount orchids I'm afraid so I can't help on that front. And this is the mycorrhizal fungi I use: biostim.com.au/shop/myco-gold/?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA2eKtBhDcARIsAEGTG417_7Qv-wcg-jXpv02UEXkdVjRBopI0pGicjR0OzsqMpUspu38fWFEaAjpwEALw_wcB But you can just google to find a local product that will do the trick.
