When albums find their way into the public they can either find tons of success or devistating failure. In either situation an artist can choose to leave it alone, let it be or ride the crazy train and milk their project ti'll the ends of time. On the K-pop thing (I thought I was the only one who remembered T-ara), repackages are surprisingly common while you have to summon the spirit of J.Y. Park himself to get a re-issue. It kinda makes sense, seeing as how a lot of groups tend to have at least one line up change at some point. They’d have a lot of trouble getting some of the albums back on shelves when somebodies either on hiatus or gone. Besides that, companies seem to take pleasure in letting albums go out of print and disappear. The repackages add a couple of songs but the albums tend to be really short. K-pop is kinda odd that way. Deluxe editions seem to be somewhat nonexistent for many groups.

SUPER weird one that I don't hear many people talk about (probably because it's debatable if it even is technically a reissue or re-release) is Streetlight Manifesto's version of Keasbey Nights. The story goes that the singer of Streetlight used to be the singer for the band Catch 22, who released the original version of Keasbey Nights. He split from the band after that album came out. a few years later, Catch 22 announced a vinyl reprint of Keasbey with extra material. The singer of Streetlight Manifesto was so mad about this that he re-recorded the entire album with his new band and released it around the same time as the reprint. So basically, it's a "cover" album, but sung by the guy who actually sang the original album.

another crazy reissue is Bob Marley's "Catch A Fire". All songs have an original version and a version that was redone to appeal more to american markets.

Good stuff. Deluxe editions and reissues can be really cool, but only if the artist actually puts the time and effort in. Prog rock bands especially seem to be the masters at this.

I think the main reason albums get rereleased is because its a desirable album, and people want the record without paying 100$+ for an original pressing.

This a weird one but JPEGMAFIA has been putting out new versions of his album LP! for a minute now. There's at least 5 different versions of this album at this rate it's insane. Brodie will keep taking it off Spotify and change something as small as the title like huh?

Another example that I found super weird was Uzi splitting up Pink Tape into several separate EPs. Nothing changed about it, he just split up the songs into “levels” like it was a video game.

Wasn't just Paul The entire band hated the original mix of Let It Be & it doesn't help the the guy behind the original mix was frickin Phil Spector Who they already hated, even before every horrible thing he did was revealed to the rest if the world

One of my favorite examples is Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum by Tally Hall. Originally released in 2005 under an independent label, they got signed to Atlantic in 2007 and re-recorded the whole album. It’s basically the same album, but the artwork is different, and all the songs have little differences that make it interesting to compare and contrast the two

Tegan and Sara's Still Jealous is one of the only re-MAKES in music i've found and even in that niche it's the only I know of that's not intended to replace the original, but serve as a companion piece.

I was expecting in this video the re-release of twin fantasy album by Car Seat Headrest because it got two versions. The 2011 version of the album or some called Face to Face version was just too rough for will toledo so he re-recorded everything on the album and it turn out to be more good i like the newer version or called the Face to Face if you will listen to it i hope you listen to the newer version or called the Mirror to Mirror album.

I recall car seat headrest doing this with Twin Fantasy, the original in 2011 and the 2018 version, in a sense being a direct sequel while touching it up to make it not sound like it was made in the back seat of a car

Missed out on mentioning vinyl re-issues due to older versions being out of print and sought after making it expensive. One recent example from my interests is Animal Collective re-issuing their first album (and remastering it), which also actually made the older versions more expensive because they changed the album cover but at least you can own it on vinyl without having to pay hundreds

Reissues are remakes of the original copy’s to keep selling an album after its original pressing is finished. That way you can still buy new ones. Imagine only having 9999 copy’s of an album in existence!

What about Daft Punks label rereleasing R.A.M. not once but TWICE this year one for a 10th year anniversary (with bonus tracks etc) and another one that was just announced as a completely drumless version (maybe for sampling or just a money grab idk)
