Yay, so glad you stand proud. That person was not appreciative to the efforts you put in, efforts that all of us aspiring players benefit from. We are SO grateful for what you have done and put out there. You're an amazing accordionist!

Hats off, Lucy! How brave you are. Yes, sometimes we must stand up and protect the artist within. It rocks that we live in an age where we can share our works around the world while documenting and reviewing our growth. As performers, we have a 'signature' that separates our sound from the sound of other musicians. Embrace your signature. Also, thanks for your words of encouragement. When we hug our instruments, they hug us back.

It’s takes a humble person to critique yourself on video!! The novice person would not notice many of the items you have pointed out. Both versions have their unique strengths. I’ve watched another professional accordionist do this song with a lot of extra finger rolls etc, but your version has all that it needs to be admired. Well done!!

That was amazing. Lots of fantastic playing tips for everyone. I think you could have a whole new career being paid to listen to players, and then point out what they could improve.

Would have liked to see you wearing the hair tie or what ever it is called. 😅 But this also reminds me of you wishing you still had your old accordion as well... 😢

It was just as enjoyable to listen to the original, with your new rendition technically more refined, You are much more assured and understanding of your talent. Oh the beauty of experience

Performing is such subtle variation and detail. In the first video you're a very accomplished player, and most audiences would be very impressed. But artists pursue perfection and refinement for it's own sake, which is a limitless process.

I'm so impressed by how deeply you got into the song 5 years ago that any flaws in playing slipped by unnoticed until you pointed them out. ❤

I'm surprised someone would suggest to delete an old video. Watching old video's really can help someone see their improvements over time. You still played very well in your first video, and seeing your improvements and more a more controlled disciplined style really shows. You mentioned you use more the detached style of playing which sounds really nice. Just at the Leavenworth Accordion Festival a couple days ago in Washington, Alicia Jo Straka held a lesson on the French musette and she talked a lot about the different play styles, like detached and legato. Have you ever been to the Leavenworth Accordion Festival? I know its far away for you, but you would be an amazing addition to one of the events in the future.

I love watching Alicia play! She’s a huge inspiration for my style. I’ve never heard of that festival. I wish I was closer to the US & Canada so I could participate in these things. Thank you for the compliments on my video :)

Well I thought the first video was beautiful - as they both were. I found the first one more moody (and extra enjoyable for that reason), even if the second had those (to me, minor) imperfections removed. I enjoyed them both. Also there was some great advice in there about visualising the form of the piece before beginning. Lovely playing, then and now! As for the endless search for perfection, I cant disagree, but in the end we are looking for an emotional communication, and maybe too much emphasis on technical perfection distracts from that. I guess this is a debate musicians have all the time.

how cheeky of them asking you to delete, youtube is like a storybook and shows how you grow we can always publish a later variation if its relevant" keep up the good work" i definately play a lot of the peices faster than they should be perhaps i will try an experiment

Great video! One of my piano teachers taught me to “begin before you begin”, meaning you imagine yourself playing the first few lines before you actually start. very similar to your first point regarding tempo. That is ludicrous that anyone would suggest to delete that video. What nerve! Have you made a tutorial for this song?
@accordionlucy
@accordionlucy Год назад
Yeah I was a bit shocked haha. Especially since the video in question is in my top 3 in terms of views! It was my piano teacher too who taught me to play the song in my head before I start. I learnt a lot of great habits from her. I don’t have a tutorial for this one. Would you like to see one?
