Another trick of used to touch up my grant stone earth boots is to skip reapplying any additional wax, and simply to use a heat gun or hairdryer to melt the existing wax and then brush aggressively with the horse hair brush. I was surprised at the results. It was just an experiment, and I really thought I would have to add additional wax but at the end, I was happy with the results, so I left it as is so I think in the future I will alternate between adding wax one time and simply just reheating and redistributing the wax the next time. Something perhaps you can consider trying out and see how it plays out

While I understand your reasoning behind re-waxing it, I do think that it's a shame to lose that beautiful patina and colour/texture variation! Hope you enjoy your (re)newed boots!

I’ve never rewaxed boots but I did reach out to Andrew from Parkhurst for his waxy commander boots and he suggested smiths leather balm and it worked perfectly! I don’t know if it’s as waxy as otter wax but it does the job.

Learn so much from this channel, I'm going to do my Crockett and Jones rough out suede Coniston boots, been wearing them all through winter, my favourite boots, C and J recommend dubbing but i prefer this way. The wax can soak in through the summer snd and I wish to retain the patina

I saw these boots in person while I was in Japan. Beautiful but I didn't have space in my luggage. How have they worn in? Do they get lighter with wear? I like the colour of the Coniston over the Edwards here. How would you compare the two?

I’ve done a similar process on my Earth Waxy Commander Brass Boots using pure beeswax and light coat of Cobbler’s Choice for Canadian winter protection. The patina always returns but better to extend the life of the boots. Collecting gets expensive. 👍🧐

I rather enjoyed the boots cleaning/ASMR portion of this video! I’ve only recently discovered the ASMR concept, never knowing what it really was.

I think another solution to retaining the "patina" could be to reproof the boots with one of the waterproofing sprays or liquids from companies such as Granger's or NikWax. These should have limited visible effect on the leather and should be much easier to apply. That way you get to retain most of the worn look but also get to add the water resistance. You should also have more breathable uppers as otter wax is not really breathable. Another alternative to Otter wax is Dubbin which should be easier to apply as it has a significantly lower melting point (though you may have to avoid wearing the boots on the hottest Ozzie summer days.)
@Bootlosophy
@Bootlosophy Год назад
Good suggestions, but I DID want to return it to the original to start the patina journey again. Dubbin doesn't give a hard "case" like hard wax does unoike the original, but great suggestions!

@@Bootlosophy I should pay more attention to what you're actually saying 🙂. I'd try using Nikwax etc. myself as an experiment except I got rid of my only pair of waxed suede boots as I wasn't a fan of the material. I have used proofing sprays on ordinary suede and nubuck hiking footwear without any problems of course.

So tempted to get these. Your several videos on them are nudging me ever closer. Curious how long it took from its original state to lose the wax? I've heard this one disappears very quickly. Was it over weeks or months?

Hello. I am new to leather boots. I just wanna ask if that's all it takes to darken these boots. Is waxy the same as suede? It seems different. The reason I'm asking is because I saw this used edward boots where its condition is exactly as it is in this video. I was wondering if i can still apply a saphir cream polish dark brown after waxing because i like it darker and dressier tbh. thank you.

A couple of rookie errors. Always use at least one of your wife’s fluffy towels to put the boots on and her toothbrush to get into the edges. Otherwise really good. I’d guess whatever the level of relaxing, they’d soon patina nicely again.
