Many of our lowland peatlands have been drained and converted to agriculture - but this causes the carbon in the peat to oxidise and be released as greenhouse gases contributing to the climate emergency. But by re-wetting the peat we can reduce these emissions whilst still growing crops which are suited to these wetter conditions.
