Adapting a transmission from a 2004 Pathfinder with part time 4wd (tx10) setup to work in a 2002 Pathfinder with full time 4wd (atx14a).
This covers the removal of the tailshaft housing, gives a look at the parking pawl assembly, shows a required gasket replaced for this particular set of years and reassembly.

Can u make a 2 wheel in too a 4x4 whit swapping the shaft?

Hi Daniel, I also want to know this. I got a 2wd transmission for my 4wd van with a bad tranny. I'm going to try to swap the tail shaft housing and cut down the output shaft shorter to fit the transfer case. The output shafts on 2wd and 4wd look identical except for the output shaft length.

This video helped I didn’t know I can purchase a transmission with part time 4wd and change switch parts from my auto 4wd but I’m hesitant because I can’t find a replacement transmission so hoping to buy a rebuild kit and attempt to build it myself .-.

Hey do you have any tips or suggestions when installing this transmission into the vehicle? Mainly the torque converter bolts that go to the flex plate with the limited opening through the starter?

The hardest part of installation for me was getting the bell housing lined up with the dowel pins on the engine and getting the upper bell housing bolts installed so once that's done, everything else is easy in comparison including the torque converter bolts. It is helpful to have somebody else rotate the engine by hand at your command while you do your best to line up the flex plate holes with the torque converter holes. It will be a slow process for that first bolt, but once you get that one, the second 3rd and fourth bolts are pretty much all lined up and thread in by hand. Just don't torque down the first bolt until you get the other three started. Make sure you torque it to spec and consider using blue loctite on them. You might need somebody to hold the harmonic balancer bolt still while you torque the flex plate bolts down. Try your hardest to not drop the bolts, but if you do, you should be able to retrieve it by removing the Allen head bolt right below the starter hole.

Hi. Is the transmission oil circulating in the tailshaft housing? How does this section provide lubrication? When disassembling the vss sensor, its end broke and a small piece remained inside. I'm going to install a new one, but I'm worried about the part that's left inside. A small piece of plastic. I wonder if the same oil is circulating in this room as the transmission.

Yes, the tailshaft housing partition is open to the main part of the transmission so fluid can pass between the two sections. When the tailshaft housing is off, there's a fairly large opening that lets you look inside the transmission from the back side
