I think his character from Blue Mountain State is the toughest thing to unsee, such a goofball. Also he looks badass in a superhero suit as Hawk on Titans.
I’m so glad y’all like this show, fun fact tho is Alan Ritchson has always bein a huge guy with great acting chops. He played Hank (Aka Hawk) on Titans and it’s one of the best parts of the show, he also played Raphael in the Michael Bay Turtles films and as a fun little smallville reunion on set for this show he played Aquaman in Smallville.
He also shows up in Brooklyn Nine-Nine about a season ahead of where Greg and John currently are so it'll be fun seeing their reaction there. Not going to spoil his role cause it's pretty fun.
Hey Greg, fun fact: Alan Ritchson, Reacher, was first brought to fame on American Idol as a singer/songwriter, later playing Aquaman in Smallville, and then also Hank Hall in Titans (the hawk). He was buff prior to this role. He was just born to be Jack Reacher.
The challenge with this series is keeping the side characters from season to season. Jack Reacher travels all over the US, there are only a few recurring characters that show up in random chapter of his adventure. He is a loner and does not maintain too many relationships.
They are not keeping characters, Jack Reacher is a hobo, so he travels from place to place. That means each book is in a different location, he encounters different people, and there are different mysteries to solve. That is why Reacher fans love the series of books.
@@cjfulbright I believe that France Neighley is the only side character that will recur. She is (minor spoiler) introduced this season, even though she was not in the book that it was based on.
@@Bikebrh yes , she is a recurring character, but she was never in this book. She was part of his Special Investigation force when he was in the Service. She did show up in several books. The one the next season is based on, she and other members of the team are prominent.
that is an objectively false statement, Tom's version is far more realistic. a man Alan's size wouldn't hack it in the military he would burn through energy too much and would require copias amounts of food that isn't provided by the military just to survive bootcamp. not to mention in the books and the show Reacher doesn't do anything at all to be as big as he is. he doesn't work out, and eats like a pig(like literally he eats anything and never gets fat which is impossible) he also does things that an MP couldn't do. not to mention in the books and the show he is a legit HOBO who doesn't shower that often
@@houseofaction ...Have you not seen the size of some infantry, let alone Marines or SEALs? There are absolutely men his size in the military that excel. You being made of whale fat and old glue doesn't change that, jackass.
What is so good about this series is that it's like a movie as the episode ends it picks up directly to the next scene. I will say episode 4 or 5 towards the end was so sad. I almost had tears in my eyes.
Yeah, part of the appeal of the books is that Reacher is a hobo. It kind of follows the Kung Fu model where he wanders into a new town and new trouble finds him. It makes it so you can jump in anywhere in the series without knowing too much backstory but doesn’t leave a lot of room for recurring characters. There are some but it’s mostly people who knew Army Reacher and not newer characters. Season 2 is definitely going to be interesting to see how folks react when you don’t have Roscoe and Finley returning.
Like I commented last time this show SLAPS! It's refreshing to watch a new series (granted it's not necessarily NEW because they're a book series and the Tom Cruise movie lol) and it is so enticing and grips you so much! It's nice with you guys and I think Nikki&Steven are watching it too (and Blindwave has it on a Poll to replace Dark). Glad the show is getting some love!
Season 1 of Reacher is based on Killing Floor (the first book to be published, but actually not the first to be written by Lee Child. That would be Tripwire). Season 2 will be based on Bad Luck and Trouble (the 11th book where Reacher reunites with his 110th squad, and personally one of my favs!) The first Jack Reacher film was based on One Shot (the 9th book) and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back was based on (you guessed it) Never Go Back (which I thought was a mistake on the scriptwriters part, because there were so many other great stories they could’ve chosen like 61 Hours, The Visitor, The Hard Way, Gone Tomorrow, Persuader, Without Fail, Tripwire). Just a little insight… keep up with the great reactions ❤
@@abhi0524 Alan Ritchson said he’s a crier. So if they do S3 with Persuader, it would be an iconic moment to see Reacher in tears. Plus, one of the best revenge stories in the series Fyi we do see Reacher shed a tear in the S1 finale. But I meant in the context of him breaking down entirely, which shows how broken he is in that moment.
One of the traits Reacher has in the books is that he always knows what time it is to the minute. That comes from the author Lee Child working in television for years, and knowing time from commercial cuts.
I started watching the show again because of your reactions. I really enjoy this one, and am continually impressed by the cast and writing. I love how tense the writing can be.
I am a bit surprised you knew Kristen Kreuk from Smallville, but not Alan Ritchson, who was Aquaman in Smallville. Of course, he was a more limited character. Mr. Ritchson was also Hank on Titans. I never read the Jack Reacher books, but 1 of the common complaints I've seen is Tom Cruise's small size was not right for it. So, I presume Reacher in the books is really big and buff. I enjoyed the first Jack Reacher movie (did not love it, but enjoyed it). But, this show is so much better in every way. Malcolm Goodwin was in 1 of my favorite CW shows, iZombie. I'm so glad to see him back in another great show. I was just thinking the other day that I'd love to see Alan Ritchson be in the new rebooted DC. Actually, if DC was going to do a multiverse thing, especially if rumors are true thatJason Mamoa may be Lobo and if Henry Cavill ever does return some time later eventually as an older Superman, having Alan Ritchson cast would also be perfect, IMO.
I really liked this series and I'm excited re-watching the "Cliff Notes" version with you guys b4 season 2 drops. I thought Alan Ritchson (both acting and physically) really nailed the character and am surprised Marvel or DC (other than Titans) hasn't yet snagged this guy yet.
As someone who has read the book, this was pretty close with some understandable changes. I was really happy with this season and am looking forward to season 2.
I'm glad Greg clarified that he was being sarcastic about Kristin not aging well because imho she still looks as great as when she was on Smallville. This show is awesome, I've watched the first season all of the way through once and went back to certain parts I liked throughout the season to watch them again.
This is such a goated series. I saw the first reaction and decided to watch the show again. Y’all are gonna really enjoy this one as it gets further along.
Loved the joke about Reacher knowing the time just from the position of the sun. Funny thing is, in the books he doesn't even need the sun. He just always knows what time it is even when just waking up.

He is like Bruce Banner from the old Hulk series (minus the piano music) traveling from town-to-town so it will be interesting to see how the seasons go… the only negative feeling I get isn’t even about the show - it’s the fact I wish they would have treated Batman like this…
I watched this originally in February when it came out. But now I'm rewatching. Your reviews are amazing and so funny! Hopefully you'll be on board for Season 2.
Check out Blue Mountain State sometime, Alan Ritchson plays a very different character. It was 2010 so he was a little younger, but still jacked. About as juvenile a show you could think of, pretty awesome.
I love how you and Nikki and Steven started at almost the same time watching this. Please watch Narcos next and Greg!!! I need your reaction to Pitch Perfect 2 pls! KK and the actor who plays Reacher were both on Smallville 😊😊
This show embodied the Reacher of the books as best you can. In the books there is a lot of inner monolog of Reacher's that are hard to put to film. But in the books, the phrase "Reacher said nothing" is used a lot and this show captures that soooooooo well.
The actor who plays Reacher, was also in “Titans” as “Hawk” and he was friggin hilarious in a show called Blue Mountain State and his name was Thad!!! LMAO
It's funny you mention him knowing the time when he left the hotel room. In the books he just always knows the time, it's like a weird super power he has.
Lol Guys! Alan Ritchson was that buff. He came from filming Titans. Which is a DC superhero show. He played the hero Hawk. So he was already buff from the start. I'm sure he did some training but in interviews he states that when he agreed to do the part filming started shortly after he took the role. He has interviews about it on RU-vid.
he was "BUFF" But he also gained 30 lbs of muscle in like 9 months which is physiologically impossible to do so without PEDs the most any human can gain in 9 months let alone an entire year is 15lbs and that is only if they are an absolute NEWBIE to exorcising. experienced athletes can gain at most 8lbs of muscle in a year without PEDs
Loved this series. I cant barely look everytime something broke in a human body. I know its just in series/movies but it looks so real. Damn hahahha😊 loved your videos as always
I think Alan Ritchson was one of the few actors as big as Tom Welling in Smallville. He made Aquaman interesting and a likeable person. He was always fit.
"He's gonna' lean in to kiss her and accidentally head butt her. He gives her a full concussion." - All I could think was "Tell 'bout how I'm gonna' tend them rabbits, George." LOL! Great reactionguys!
I greatly enjoyed your reactions and insights. Thank you. Alan Richtson was already very fit, but he trained hard and added an extra 30 pounds of muscle for the role. He is 6 ft 3 in, two inches shorter than the Reacher character. They use careful camera angles and settings to make him look larger. It’s important to the pace, depth and character story development that this is spread over multiple episodes. The hard R content is needed too for the intensity and stakes. So really, it would not work nearly as well as a movie.
and took a shat tonne of PEDs to do so. its literally biologically impossible to put the amount of muscle he put on in the amount of time he put it on without PEDs
I don't know where you guys live but in the South especially Georgia, Arkansas, Louisiana etc... it will start dumping rain before the thunder stops. I didn't believe the movies or shows until I experienced it myself. It's crazier than you think 💯
One of my favorite shows. Cannot wait for season 2. Your reviews on this are hilarious. Thanks for that! Sorta of off topic, but have you guys ever done reviews on Berserk? Ide love to see your reviews on this.
Much respect for the shout out you gave to DC, that was cool, love my fellow Canadian Kristin Kreuk also❤. If you want to not blur a video, my vote is for episode 4 😊
Alan Richtson just missed out on getting Aquaman. He's always been pretty big but 'went bigger' as soon as he was cast as Reacher. Lee Child lets you hear Reacher's inner monologue in the books and as a military man for so long, he often goes into survival mode when under threat. Eat whenever provided with food, sleep as soon as you can after a fight to re-charge to be ready for the next fight and so on. He also often talks before he fights to unnerve his opponent. Anyone who reads the books knows he often does a 1,2,3 countdown, starts fighting on 2 and the fight will be over by 3.
I liked the movie, LOVED the show! Love it even more that you all are enjoying it. I can't wait for season 2. So, I'm glad that I have your reaction series to make my re-watch more fun 😄
hope you guys do more reactions where Alan Ritchson shows up, or even not react but watch Blue Mountain State (BMS) to see him as Thad Castle, the best college linebacker and team captain ever done
You guys recognized Kristen Kreuk from ‘Smallville’ but not Alan Ritchson/Reacher? He played A.C., Arthur Curry . . . AQUAMAN!!! Lol! He’s even bigger here than was 15 years ago.
