It's not even the wokeness, that is annoying on its own. But the wokeness is used as a crutch for bad writing. They don't know how to take the story, so they insert some weird moralizing lesson that nobody wants in their entertainment. Wokeness is almost always a sign of bad writing, the end result of bad writing.

Yep. They want to push their agenda so they insert characters and write around it. There's definitely good ways of getting a message across, but it has to be more of an underlying thing across the entire story.

I'd argue it's a result of it going both ways, they force it in because their writing is terrible so they try to offset it with a virtue signal to either auto-please a section of the population or drum up controversy. However, they also start from the get-go with an intention to focus on these ideals, and most of the time they're either too inept to handle the material they chose, (because of the modern "art" mindset of nothing being objective, the intention superseding the medium it's presented in. Your analysis of the art therefore being a critique of the message is pushes.) resulting in damn near intentionally terrible writing. The problem with social commentary is it's supposed to be a held up mirror, a perspective we don't normally see. When EVERYTHING is social commentary and "X" representation/awareness, then it just becomes tiring. So much so that even a show with the basic archetype of the no nonsense strong silent white guy who has all the answers and saves the day while getting the girl, is a breath of fresh air.

If you're a talentless hack of a writer (and you KNOW you're one) and you're also a manipulative human being (like most people in the entertainment industry) you can gaslight people who are honest about your stuff being garbage into staying quiet, calling them all kinds of -ists and -phobes. "You didn't like the Kenobi series? That's because Reeva is black! Racist!"

@@freehongkong8732 It's not even about "the message" a lot of the time though. It's a shield for criticism. You get to call anyone criticizing you racist, sexist, basically claim they hate you for some reason that makes them a bad person, and it's not YOUR fault for making a bad product.

People don’t like lame characters. Woke characters are preachy, condescending, entitled, with a massive chip on their shoulder. Nobody wants to be lectured to. The same thing happened with the evangelical right being giant kill joys.

Reacher is based off a book from decades ago, lots of the lines are straight from the book. So a lot of the "cringey" lines were quite good when they were written, they just didn't age well because now everyone does them because they were so good, and as such they're overdone.

Season 2 was just fine and i wasn't disappointed, Season 1 just had a better storyline from the book to transform into a good simple entertaining show... I'll be still happy to watch season 3...

Main reason is because the books have been around for a while, since 1997. And Jack Reacher was always written as an "old-school badass" type. A bit like the action film heroes from the 80s.

BMS is such an under appreciated show. Back in the glory days of Spike TV. There is a Cinemax show called "Banshee" that is even more under-rated than BMS. That dude that stars in the show "The Boys" got his 1st starring role in this show and he is the ultimate gig-chad. The violence in the show is the best I've ever seen and there is no shortage of female nudity. Annnd the story is really good.

I don't remember hearing anyone complain about Finn being black. I do remember people complaining about Rey being a Mary Sue, which she is, and there was a push to make the main character female so people harped on that.

People loved Finn because the prospect of a Stormtrooper turned Jedi was super interesting. Then they pulled a bait and switch and no one really likes him anymore. His race never seemed important, even to the more radical fans. You're right too. Ray could have been loved if she wasn't a Mary Sue.

John boyega is very hood in interviews and doesn’t act like Finn at all. Robert Downey jr is a good example because he literally acts like Tony stark and got type casted as him because of his personality. Boyega got the job because he was black and somewhat of a known actor.

Taylor is right. He is juat a extremely strong guy, and a genius. And pretty much just fallows 1 case. He doesnt chase crime around a city. If we take kyle and woodys argument it leaves a very thin like between him and characters like the guy from true detective season 1. A drug addict genius who shows up to work on time wnough not to get fired? Thats just as "super" just without thw strength.

Reacher to me has such bad dialogue. I would cringe at some of the lines and be immediately pulled out of the show. Definitely the writing was at fault for that Bec all the delivery seemed good. And man, I am not a fan of dumb villains. So many slow, clumsy and or unbearably dumb decision-making from them. By no means do I want hyper realism but at least make everything logically make sense.

The problem character is Neagley. She comes across like she was written specifically for the show, but I looked it up and she is actually in the books. The difference? Her race is never specified in the novels, she's just described as having "dark hair and eyes". She feels inauthentic, but she isn't. Her scenes are annoying, but the character was in the books, just not specifically black and she appeared later than she does on the show. For me the problem though is twofold. You can suspend disbelief enough to buy that a 6'5 jacked ex-military guy can beat up a group of men who are smaller and have no such training, but I can't buy a tiny woman doing the same thing. If you want a female action star you need to have her character do things women can actually do. Have them be gunners. Snipers, marskman. Women excel at marksmanship. And seeing the other girl in his little scooby-doo crew made me realize the real issue. I hate to be mean to Neagley's actress, but she's not hot. I didn't have an issue with the other female character because she was gorgeous. Neagley has a scene where she comes out in a dress and everyone acts like she's gorgeous and it took me out of it. I'm not even saying she can't be a black woman, I'm saying she should be a pretty black woman. Honestly beyond that, a lot of the unbelievable stuff she does is the same unbelievable stuff Reacher does and to me, regardless of sex or race, he works better as a character when he does that stuff alone. I still liked season 2, but a squad of mini-Reachers felt very silly.
