Season 1 has two parts with two different openings, season 2 has only one part with one opening. Season 3 again has two parts with two openings, and finally season 4 (will) have 3 parts with three different openings. (Although I would really love it if they kept the opening from season 4 part 2 🔥)

I absolutely love the 4th opening and think it's super underrated. It might even be my favourite when taken in context with the story and what the visuals mean for the various characters. But at the same time all the openings are pretty incredible so the gap between my favourite and least favourite is very small

I definitely like Red Swan, My War, and The Rumbling the most lol. Probably not the popular opinion but I put them on repeat the most out of all the intros.

I'm glad you didn't watch the openings; there are definitely spoilers in there! The opening songs usually change every 12-ish episodes. So season 1 with its 25 episodes has 2 different openings. Season 2 being a shorter season has 1 song. Then season 3 (22 episodes) has 2 songs again. It's looking like season 4 will have 3 songs eventually. Openings 1, 2, 3 and 5 are by the same band - Linked Horizon Personally, my favourite is the 5th opening (2nd opening of season 3), but they are all so good. Just wondering, have you considered creating a Patreon, so you won't have to fade out the screen? (Just a thought) Also, do you have a regular upload schedule for AOT? Thanks!

Hey, love this reaction and your others!! Your passion for music and analysis of the visuals are brilliant. Did want to give a thought though- for your reactions, and for anyone who stumbles upon this comment- try to avoid watching these pieces in the fan-made “4K,60fps” versions. These aren’t how the animators intend them to be viewed, as the ai upscaling and frame interpolation on the movement completely changes the look and timings of the animation. These versions are the openings in, honestly, a butchered state. Animation is 24fps for a reason, and using a computer to create new frames to make it “smoother” only takes away from the way the art is meant to be viewed. Hope that makes sense, don’t mean to be negative or anything just wanted to put that out there if you cared. Love watching these dude and look forward to watching more!

There are videos of live performances of the first 3 openings though they play scenes from their respective parts/seasons so I suggest you should finish up until season 2 first. The name of the band is Linked Horizon btw. I think someone already commented but LH performed OPs 1-3 & OP 5. As for the OSTs there is a video of the composer (who'll be playing the piano in that video). They only show the musicians and vocals playing so I think that'd be safe to watch. Also some OSTs have very spoilery names/titles so uh... tread carefully and uh, don't read into the lyrics too much 😅😅

Season 4 isn't ready for release yet as a complete album yet but you can get seasons 1 2 and 3 and probably should.... just collect the complete soundtracks.

That "royal" sound as you described it for the first few openings is quite correct an interpretation, specifically those songs are heavily reminiscent of national anthems or nationalistic. The story of AoT is about humanity rallying their forces in a fight for survival of their "nation" behind the walls, openings 1 2 3 and 5 are meant to capture this epic struggle, hence their bombastic tones and the feeling of a call to arms present within said OPs. OPs 1 2 3 and 5 were all done by the same band and they were all meant to fit sections of the story of AoT, so to speak, with an emphasis on the nation aspect of humanity that survived behind the walls. Op 1 and 2 were both season 1 but because of the 25 episode length of season 1 it's characterized by 2 parts(ep 1-13 and ep 13-25) and op 3 is for season 2. All 3 of the musical elements in the first 3 openings were re-blended into opening 5 leading to all of them having such a similar but distinct sound. You can think of openings 1-3 being the beginning of a story with chapter 1, and specifically think of the 5th opening being a retelling of all the events travelled from the previous openings (hence the 5th opening sounding the same) with the final 10 seconds of the song having a sense of finality to the melody symbolizing the beginning chapter of the story coming to an end. As you most probably noticed openings 6 and 7 sound nothing like the previous openings and this is highly fitting with the theme of them being "new chapters" of the story of AoT.

You could've watched the animation. As someone who has watch AOT 4 times all the way through, none of the animation has any spoilers. I don't know how the team did it but they managed to make every op spoiler free. Once you've seen each season, if you rewatch the animation then you might notice some crazy foreshadowing but you won't get any spoilers

My tier list for AOT OPs 7. 6 sorry not sorry. It's awesome not my fave 6. 2 like it a lot but again there is better 5. 4 it was such a change in dynamic. I think it would have been a better EP 4. 3 epic 3. 5 another epic...spoiler heavy tho. 2. 1 hard to beat the og 1. 7. Enough said. Perfect song. Perfect storytelling.

Oddly enough, opening number four is one of the few aot intros that doesn't have that many spoilers. Like, sure, the opening has bits and pieces of things you learn within the show, but it's not displayed in a way that spoils anything specific unless and until you actually get the context, at which point you're like "WAIT THAT'S--". I could see extrapolating multiple spoilers from openings 1,2,3,5,6, and 7...but if you *did* want to actually watch the video for one of them, 4 is your best bet.

There is an upcoming part for the last season in 2023 to cover last chapters from the manga Last part so I am excited for the intro outcome and maybe new osts

This may be controversial, but there's a bunch of RU-vidrs who've done English covers these themes. As someone who doesn't speak Japanese or German (or any other languages they might have snuck into these songs) there's something about putting the lyrics in English that helps sell the songs on different level. Definitely would check out SkarProductions and Natewantstobattle's covers of “Guren no Yumiya” and Amalee and Melifry's covers of “Jiyuu no Tsubasa”
