A little bit of context on this specific video you watched -- this was from their first performance back, after the theatres had shut down for Covid. Also, there had been all kinds of financial stuff going on, and they hadn't been sure if this show was going to reopen at all -- a producer of another show had essentially gotten them kicked out of the theatre where they had been performing, and it had looked like they were going to close for good, but then they were able to find another theatre to move to. The first line was changed -- it was originally, "Hey folks, begging your pardon. Welcome to the Winter Garden." The Winter Garden was their old theatre, so they changed it to "Hey folks, ain't it pretty? Look who's back in New York City!" All of that was why that line got such huge applause at that performance. (If you look at videos where they did this song on various TV shows, the Tony Awards, the Thanksgiving Parade, and other places, they changed the lyrics each time to make jokes about wherever they were. Supposedly, he messed up once and sang the Thanksgiving lyrics at the actual show.)
@@TheNerdyBrit There was a whole huge mess around all of that, all revolving around Scott Rudin. This video explains it pretty well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hTRInJ6TeN0.html
The Thanksgiving performance is a lot of fun -- it seems like the basic reasoning behind it was, "OK, so we can't keep saying the word 'death' on this televised parade that's being watched by four-year-olds and their grandparents, so what can we do? How about just complete nonsensical chaos? Cool, let's do it!" (I was honestly surprised that they were able to keep the "Blah blah Jesus bible magic" line in the parade version -- I'm sure they got some complaints about it. The Thanksgiving parade is one of those weird relics where, no matter what else is happening in the world, people somehow expect it to never progress past about 1962 there. People will complain about all sorts of "inappropriate" things at the parade that have been completely appropriate on TV for decades.)
Honestly really enjoyed this performance! This was the first thing I saw of the show and now I'm curious as to the rest of the show! Great video as always mate!
I don't know if you are still looking for feedback on this but I loved it and would totally watch more if you haven't gotten around to litening to the rest of the soundtrack yet.
