My reaction to British Christmas ads I've never seen before (John Lewis, Sainsbury's etc.). I wasn't expecting to get THIS emotional lol.
Please feel free to leave suggestions in the comments of what you would like to see next :)

The Sainsbury’s advert is based on the true story. This actually happened at Christmas time in World war 1. The english and Germans came together for Christmas Day, exchanged presents and played football together. The next day, the soldiers did not want to fight each other but officers threatened to shoot any man who did not fight the opposition for desertion! It’s a well known incident. Shows the strength of love!

@Broken Native we ain't a socialist nation. The left would like us to be but fortunately for the rest of us they are the minority. The Irn Bru add is a spoof of the iconic animated film "The Snowman" which was based on the childrens book by Raymond Briggs. It's on every Christmas in the UK. The song "Walking in the air" was originally sung by choir boy Paul Auty in the 1982 film. However in 1985 a new recording was made which reached No.5 in the UK charts and made it's singer, choir boy Aled Jones, a star.

Some information for you. Irn-Bru is a Scottish carbonated soft drink, often described as "Scotland's other national drink" (after whisky).Introduced in 1901, the drink is produced in Westfield, Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, by A.G. Barr of Glasgow. As well as being sold throughout the United Kingdom, Irn-Bru is available throughout the world and can usually be bought where there is a significant community of people from Scotland.The brand also has its own tartan.It has been the top-selling soft drink in Scotland for over a century, competing directly with global brands such as Coca-Cola.

Your crying shows just how human you are. Btw, Irn Bru is a Scottish soft drink which is orange in colour but not in flavour. It is so long since I last drank it that I can't remember the flavour. The advert is based on the Christmas Cartoon Film called 'The Snowman' and the 'Snowman and Snow Dog' which are regularly shown on tv over the Christmas Period! Hope you enjoy and get to watch it this year again. The song was sung by a former Chorister from Bangor Cathedral though he was lead Soloist, he was never Head Chorister there, his name is Aled Jones, a Welsh singer who is well known over here in the UK for singing the theme tune 'Walking In The Air' from 'The Snowman' cartoon film made in 1985 and the single reached No.5 in the Christmas Charts too! Hope this info has helped you place the song and tune also that you loved all the ads as they are all so wonderfully poignant!

Late on Christmas Eve 1914, men of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) heard German troops in the trenches opposite them singing carols and patriotic songs and saw lanterns and small fir trees along their trenches. Messages began to be shouted between the trenches. The following day, British and German soldiers met in no man's land and exchanged gifts, took photographs and some played impromptu games of football. They also buried casualties and repaired trenches and dugouts. After Boxing Day, meetings in no man's land dwindled out.

@keavmcn

So the Irn - Bru ad is kind of based on the movie the snowman, where the song walking in the air is from. Irn - Bru decided to make a parody of the song and the story. So as you can see this kid isn't sharing his Irn - Bru with the snowman and the snowman gets really mad so he takes his Irn - Bru and drops him. This is an iconic Scottish ad and it never changed until 2018 or 2019. Also Irn - Bru is a fizzy drink or as the Americans would call it "soda". Hope this cleared everything up.
@markw4613
@markw4613 2 года назад
Irn Bru - it is its own thing. Can't really compare it to anything else. You need the background of The Snowman animation (where you will have heard the song) and Irn Bru's advertising style to get fully understand it. Doing a Christmas advert in this way is probably the best demonstration of the Scottish sense of humour lol.

The Irn Bru advert is based on the famous and very heartwarming and wholesome animated film, called 'The Snowman'. That's where the music is from. Though the lyrics are very different in the advert, 'the irn bru is mine'. ;) It's a parody and ends with a bit of dark humour, which Brits love. :)

The Macdonalds 2020 ad is basically bringing back your inner child at Christmas which is what it's all about

You know the song from the film 'The Snowman' originally sang by Aled Jones

Its nothing to be ashamed of young woman, crying over that advert, it is very moving when you know the context of it, and how it must have been to been in that place and time. You must have a very sensitive and loving heart, which is very refreshing to see, stay safe and keep smiling!

The Elton John advert was very self indulgent for Christmas and boring.

No M&S Christmas adverts?!?! You need to watch those ones from the past few years. Superb... all of them, except this years, but 2020 had a bit of a different vibe to it, understandably. :-(

There is a sequel to the Irn Bru Snowman advert ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z8WBStu4STY.html Lots of things you see in these 2 are landmarks in Scotland

Sadistic sense of humour you'd need to find the iron bru one funny. Just the thing to set the mood for Christmas. Must have cheered kids up no end.

The Irn-Bru is a satire on an institution called "The Snowman " that is shown every year in the UK. It is so loved that we know they are doing a homage rather than a critique.

You have the nicest reactions. The one about WW1, I wish we could all put down the guns and just learn to love each other. I served in the U.S.Navy and have seen to much hate.
