the meaning of Baepsae isn't conveyed well by the colour coded translations I've seen. The song describes older generations telling young people that they don't have the same standard of living because they haven't worked as hard. Older people don't acknowledge that they created an economy that prevents social mobility, attainable home ownership etc, while blaming young people for not working themselves to death.

Not my Husband Namjoon writing a song about his own dimples and making the vocal line sing it, that is too funny, also Tae & Jin interact together a lot during live performances & concerts during songs so you will see this type of thing often, Jinkook are the ones who are always together during offcam moments such as MV Behind the scenes, individual & group photoshoots, Bon Voyage, In The Soop, & backstage (Bangtan Bombs) on stage during Namjoon & other members speeches etc

Namjoon is a great lyricist. His lyrics are not easily translated but we do have some Army translators who translates and explains the meaning to us. I would recommend Doolset for lyrics and meanings. BTS songs are so much more than the beats and melody, but the message they want to convey too. This is what made a lot of us ARMYs. Their songs speak to us directly. They know. We know they understand.

Loved all three songs included on this video. Pied Piper and Dimple are also my faves. Love all the members. JK was initially my bias for his voice, but goodness me… Jimin wrecked it for me. I have serious issues with this man, Jimin is my ultimate bias wrecker and I can’t get enough of him. A solo album from this angel will be such a blessing to all of us.

Baepsae is the quintessential Millennial/Gen Z clap back at Boomers... the Baepsae or Crow Tit represents the youth who are desperately trying to keep up with the Storks who are the adults/bosses/teachers. The storks are telling them to try harder, live more responsibly, so you can buy a house and have a family, but at the same time ignoring the drastically different economic climate to see that the youth are already working hard, but no matter how fast they run to keep up, the stork will always have the advantage, and they like keeping it that way.

There's compilations of Hobi's baepsae hip thrusts haha. When they're performing it without the full choreo he just wilds out and does splits and stuff, it's a lot! Yes he has amazing facial expressions. When you get around to hearing So What, you'll need to check out a compilation of tae and jin moments from that song in concerts. They get up in each other's business. About ripping their shirts off etc - showing skin is very rare for them! This is why everyone freaked out about their costumes in the most recent PTD concerts as some of them were a bit more revealing than usual. So we say we're like Victorian men seeing an ankle lol.

Before the video even started, I knew this was gong to burn you to bits. Three of the sexiest choreos, and SUCH good songs. :) "Baepsae" is about the way younger people are/were treated in Korea - they keep being told that they're lazy because they don't have jobs and all the material things the older generations do, but the critics miss the fact that they've created a situation where attaining those things is impossible. (It's basically Boomer/Millennial.) So, in a manner of thinking, yes the song is about RM. ;) During "Pied Piper," when Tae was being...Tae, when you said, "Can you not?" I literally laughed so loud that I woke up my cat. LOL!

So... on Baepsae. It's based on a Korean proverb that if the Baepsae (or crow tit) tries to keep up with the stork, it will tear its legs. (because a crow tit is a tiny puffball of a bird compared to the long-legged giant stork) And the song talks about the disparity of privilege between the millennial generation and the baby boomer generation in South Korea. Similar to the US, the boomers in SK gained a ton of wealth in the 80s/90s, raising cost of living and real estate and expecting the younger generation to now work free or extremely low-paid internships (passion pay) to try to climb the ladder. But, like here, with everything more expensive and with very few jobs available, the millennia's have given up on being able to have what their parents and grandparents have. In response, the older gens just say, "Work harder! Put in more effort!" --completely ignoring the privileges they had back then that this generation doesn't have.

I absolutely love how you jump from one member to the next. It shows that you love all of the members. You may have a bias...(I don't know)....but it doesn't really show. I am new to your channel & I must say, I love your reactions. I am not a fan of (over) reactors, who jump up & walk away from their seat....I love your enthusiasm, which isn't overblown, but conveys how you feel. I cannot wait until. you do some of their solo work. My bias is Jimin; I cannot resist his solos not only because of his vocals, but I cannot get enough of his dancing.. But, like you.....I love all of them. I will choose a member to binge videos of just that member when the mood strikes me. How anyone can spew hate on these kind-hearted, multi-talented young men is beyond me.

Baepsae is one of my favorites in terms of the lyrics. It is basically describing the split between the Boomer and millenial generation in Korea. Boomers having grown up in an economic upswing which allowed them, if they worked hard to have decent material possessions and become homeowners. However economy changed since then, partly because of the very actions of the Boomer generation, and the same amount of work does not guarantee the millenial generation the same income, homeownership or even a job. The older generation doesn't realise this though and blames the younger generations for being "lazy", saying they should just put in more effort and indoctrinating the belief that if you work hard enough you can have everything - only that is no longer the case. The Boomer generation is referred to as the "stork" in the song, having longer legs and therefore an advantage. The younger ones are "baepsae"'s which have very short legs. It describes the discrepancy between the two generations that is facing the same expecation, that is unattainable or much harder to attain by the bird with the short legs.

Hey! Baepsae is one of the most political/controversial songs in the catalog. There is a mirrored dance practice somewhere on YT with the lyrics translated by someone who is bilingual. This is really important because as you definitely know, Korean-to-English via computer translation is basically impossible. And a lot of the color-coded people are not bilingual. They just put the Korean lyrics into a program then copy and paste what comes out. This mirrored dance practice with english sub is the best translation of the lyrics I have ever seen. I'll see if I can find it and put a link in a reply. The proverb your friend told you about actually has three meanings. The first is the one you read. But in modern times it has come to describe the way the working class can never keep up with the upper class, no matter how hard they try. It's also used to describe the generational conflict between Gen Z and Boomers. In this song they are using this third meaning. A "try-hard" or "bapsae" is a person in Gen Z, because they are constantly being told to just try harder if they want what boomers have, which ignores all the economic differences this generation faces compared to the post-war boom economy of their grandparents.

VMin are the reason I became an ARMY, I find their voice so unique and their friendship is amazing. But when I found out about this video, I was sold. Baepsae is serious commentary on the class division of the haves and have nots in South Korea, which is so similar to what happens here in the US. I also just really love this Dimple/Pied Piper live performance so much. All 7 members were amazing, as always. But Jimin's body rolls in Dimple were next level. Also, I will never get over the cuteness of Jin and Tae singing to each other in Pied Piper. I love that being vocally critical of your government, adoring someone's dimples, and gently ribbing your fans is all authentic from our guys.

Everyone here is giving good explanations of Baepsae, but I'll add the silver spoon concept too. It is similar to America's silver spoon idea but Korea has taken it and expounded upon it. They have like 10ish levels of "spoons". Silver is still elite but not the highest. Either way, it is referring to people trying to move up spoon levels when society frowns on it. That's the slight downside about warning people about these performances beforehand. Like I've seen some other KPop performances where people are half naked, faking kisses, dancing lewdly, etc and then here I am, with BTS being my gateway group into this world, and I feel almost downright Victorian. Like you don't understand... for YEARS we were trying to figure out what Tae's forehead looked like haha. His hairstyle changed after about War of Hormone and he didn't show full forehead again until Dynamite era lol. And anytime we get a slip of stomach it's like seeing a Victorian ladies ankles!! Like they would sensor tummies in behind the scenes videos with emojis lol. Then about Map of the Soul 7 they seemed to stop caring so much... JK always had at least 3 buttons undone, he was wearing lace shirts, the rest seemed to stop being so "perfect" and then even more recently we got pics with Jimin in an open jacket with no shirt, and Jin's back without a shirt... like it is SCANDALOUS!!! So these performances easily make ARMY hot and bothered, but in the grand scheme of things, they are pretty tame to some other KPop performances you may have seen! But anyway, I'm still so happy you liked the songs and I continue to love your reactions!!

To me Baepsae is a critique of the way millennials are viewed and treated. They simultaneously tell millennials that they need to work harder and try harder and are lazy, but then the way the system is set up, if millennials work just as much and as hard as previous generations, we won’t get nearly as much. And then the older generations look at millennials and say “listen this is what I did, so just work harder” the whole Baepsae/stork analogy is about that for me- they get so much farther in so much fewer steps and then tell us to just walk faster. Idk, that’s how I’ve always seen it^^

I just thought you would LOVE the BT21 characters!!!! They have a mini doc series where they show the whole process of them creating the characters!! Also the merch is IMPECABLE and the plushies OMG You’ll fall in love with them. One of my goals since BT21 were released is having one of the plushies😭😭 I’ve been an army since 2016 but I’m still a year away from being an adult(in korea, where I live) so I can’t afford buying my own things yet. The Koya(Namjoon) plushie is in my top3 of things I need to do(buy) when I become an adult
