Drew vs Punk is the match of the year IMO, and it wasn't that close. The AEW matches with Will, Bryan, MJF and Swerve matches were kinda all the same, I've seen Ospreay matches before and those were not that much different from his Takagi, Kushida, Hiromu and Gunther matches (they were all great btw). This was so different, which is funny cuz it was a weapons match which we get every other week, but this felt so special and soooo much better. It was the culmination of a ten month long blood feud and it ended in the most perfect way it's suppose to end. It elevated Drew to such a high level, this was easily the best work of his career, better than his 2020 stuff. It also showed people that Punk is still capable of greatness, tho if you've seen his last run in AEW, you knew he was still great. Honestly, I too gave it 5 stars, everything about it, the build up, the match, the crowd, the finish, the reception, the promos, the skills, everything was as perfect as it gets. It made me feel like MJF and Punk made me feel, like Omega and Tana made me feel, HHH/Taker at 27 made me feel, many more. Classic shit.
@chrispetrelis5013 Imagine calling someone brainwashed over their opinion over what an arbitrary wrestling match that they think is the best this year. 😂
@@chrispetrelis5013 Think? Oh I KNOW it's the best match this whole year. Brainwashed is crazy btw. By who? By what? The wrestling illuminati perhaps? Get a life mark.
@@chrispetrelis5013 Dude you're speaking in cap and failing to coherently make any form of counter-argument as to why it wasn't. I think the one without a brain is the guy randomly ranting incoherently. YOU. I'm not just a WWE guy. I was in the stadium for All-In, and there were a couple of great matches these. Swerve Vs Bryan, MJF Vs Ospreay. But Punk Vs McIntyre is probably the match of the year if you discount Roman Vs Cody for being too overbooked. It was beautiful.
I had to laugh, about what Dave wrote about the count out thing, when almost every match on AEW TV ignores it. Plus he almost never writes about botches on AEW matches
He literally mentioned in other companies turning a blind eye to the count is common he’s saying the wrestler calling a time out is bs not the act of ignoring the count is common
LOVE these videos. Both of your thought processes make it fun and fresh. Suggestion - It would be fun to do the same game or a family feud style game with cagematch ratings. Like guessing Bret Hart or John Cena or Danielson etc top 10 matches based on cagematch fan votes
Nobody with a brain should care how Meltzer rates a match these days. He has given 5 starts to some of the worst, no selling, no story, no build up, no emotion acrobatic, mudshow spotfests. I dont think I like Dave giving Punk v Drew 5 stars... after the $hit that Meltzer and Alvarez stirred with Punk and AEW he should legally have to take the name CM Punk out of his mouth. My idea of a perfect match is Brett Hart vs Austin Wrestlemania 13 I quit match. I really like the first of the three matches between FTR and the Briscoe brothers. Matches that feel personal and look believable. I dont know where this match would sit in my list of top ten matches... but its in the top 10 and I do believe it is certainly worthy of 5 stars.
Maybe it’s just me but Nia attempting to hit a hurricanrana was impressive and impactful imo. Nia isn’t like Ricochet or Will who use aerobatics regularly. It made Nia seem desperate from a storytelling perspective. 🤷♂️
So possibly unintentional funny thing on the banner that I noticed that made me giggle, also as my mandated engagement... Above Steve there's only 5 Meltzers, but above Larson there's 6 Meltzers. Why is this funny, you ask? Because Larson never rates higher than 5 stars so when he gets the 6 Meltzer side, it makes me laugh
There's a women's tax and a punk tax too! so all women's/punk's matches automatically get a -.75 at least. Anyone in place of Punk and the HIAC would be a a guaranteed 5.5+ rating lol
I wonder if Melzer had to call Tony Kahn and ask if it was OK if he gave a WWE match at five star rating considering Tony pays for those pretty much exclusively
I listened to the WoR episode where Bryan and Dave covered Bad Blood. I knew for a fact after listening to them talk about Bayley and Nia that it was getting under 2 stars. If you want some real editorializing without the star ratings, those WoR episodes they put up the night an event happens can help get you some insight on what the star rating is gonna be.
Dave doesn’t like breaking the rules in a match but in every match on Dynamite every rule is broken and he hypes up the matches and is AEW’s biggest cheerleader. Lmaooo give me a break smh
@@megatinmand5524 they fuck with things we like and criticizing dave meltzer when most wrestling media treats his opinion like gospel. Disagreeing with Dave makes you a heretic ,so any discussion is not allowed. Dave is a cancer
Dave starts every WWE match at 2 stars and AEW at 4. Dave is a total joke. Sad thing is he would be an amazing read/listen if he didn't take it personally and use his ratings to prop up one company.
You guys have just become the same as “the OTHER guuuuuys…” go ahead and meat ride AEW. We all know how these channels always start to shill for AEW. Y’all are no different.
WWE Universe fan here, I think saying it sucked is strong. I think it was mid. The show had a MOTY contender on it. Then it had an admittedly not good but ambitious Women’s title match. A pretty standard WWE Tv match. An okay women’s title match that got bad because of the finish. A main event that was also TV quality but had good heat and a decent story. I’d say you average all of it out, you get a C+ show.
Most say it is due to him being a wrestling historian. I take his ratings with a pinch of salt. He loves the NJPW style and used to be good to go to for NJPW to see which matches to watch, but now it seems he is in AEW's pockets.
