Fun fact: these unique animations aren’t just limited to overshoot, they also happen if a zombie with frenzy a plant while ancient vimpire is on the field.

The most interesting part about the Octo Pet at 46:00 is that the odds of seeing that animation are crazy low, as the only way to get an Octo Pet is either by playing as Neptuna who doesn't have access to overshoot, or by conjuring it in an overshoot deck

Back when Octo and haunting ghost had the key word “afterlife” when Octo dies, the squids would jump on him like in the overshoot animation, but since now they remove the “afterlife” ability, they don’t do that anymore and just spray him with ink and you draw his card

Fun fact: there is no animation dedicated to overshoot, all the animations that the zombies do, are the old ones that they made in game (some of them in the beta version) for some actions. They were removed because it made the game more longer than expected

The surfers overshoot could potentially hint at unused stats where when destroyed it would destroy the plant in front of it and leave a surf board, just like in PvZ2.

The moment fry uses monkey pirate in a deck. He will realise the monkey pirate's laser coming from the monkey is his ability animation, causing its score to be at best 4/5 not 5/5 with his current rating system

The monkey pirate overshoot animation is actually unique. There's a big laser that fires (which overlaps the two small lasers from the monkey ability animation)

Side note to youtube viewers when he reached the whale I recommend lower your volume by a lot

Popcap may have made many last minute changes after these animations where commissioned. EG: Zombology would have a different ability than now. Defensive End used to give ALL Gargantuars ARMOR 1.

I guess Defensive End does hold a football, which fits. Unlike the other gargs with the same animation.

i believe surfboard was originally intended to create a surfboard wall where it died, which was scrapped for some reason, but would be interesting to see, specifically a zombie dying creating an environment or something

The fusion characters were probably going to play an animation when fusing but because they were underneath the zombie they were unused for that purpose. The characters who change the cost of certain cards (gargologist and defensive end) were probably going to perform their ability animation when they changed the cost of a card but that could reveal what someone might have in their hand

I feel like some of these animations are like cut ones that were supposed to be used for something else. For example, when the defensive end is out and the plant plays a trick, it would to the arm wave to show they are making the trick cost more. But I am not sure if that is true or not

The Gargologist's screens also change during its overshoot animation. They turn purple and display a gargantuar's head. It is quite possible that it was supposed to use that animation when making gargantuars in your hand cheaper, but was instead used for the overshoot animation later on.

I think the gadget scientist one is supposed to be its when played ability but the zombies do the bonus attack imidietly so it doesn't show up

Abracadaver normally shoots with his wand and activates his special ability via the cards in his hat. During his overshoot animation, the effect is flipped: the cards from his hat hit the plant hero while the wand attack hits plant (assuming the plant hero doesn't block).

The gadget scientist one was cool because it looked like it was signalling the science zombies to do a bonus attack. Also, the parasol one looked like it was gonna be a "when played" animation, where it gives untrickable to the other zombies. Really a shame that these got scrapped.

Going back to this video and I think a really underappreciated one here is Abracadaver. A lot of Overshoots will just call up Zombie ability animations to play and then use their generic attack projectile afterwards, which creates a somewhat jarring animation (Zombies that have no ability animation simply play the attack projectile, and zombies like Cyborg who's projectile is in the attack animation itself do nothing at all) Abracadaver bucks this trend by having his ability animation and projectile function seamlessly to attack the enemy hero directly, but that's not where it ends. If the overshoot attack successfully lands Abracadaver then plays his attack projectile to strike at his random target for his ability instead of his usual ability animation. Why that happens I'm honestly not sure, but it's pretty cool! tldr Abracadaver cool because he hit hero with cards and plant with wand when he hits overshoot, but he normally does it the other way around.

my theory is that originally surfer zombie was going to have an ability to create a blocking surfboard like in pvz 2, but it got cut (likely because a zero attack minion with no team up would be detrimental then helpful).

All the over shoot animations are animations for heir abilities and if we have passive one like the teacher they activate only for overshoot or getting powered up by the feral vimpire with frenzy

2 years later, it actually looks like portal technician throws something different.

I just realize, that these animations aren’t for overshoot Attack, there actually for the ancient vampire ability. When a zombie gets a buff from the ancient vampire, it does a little animation for it to gain 2/2. And some don’t even do anything, while others we’re meant for the ancient vampire like Teacher and the Gargologist. All I’m trying to say, is that these animations are for ancient vampire, not for overshoots

40:03 I don't think the overshoot animation caused the glowy aura here, even though that would be cool. Max had to play the Primordial Cheese Shover onto a Disco Dance Floor to give it overshoot in the first place, which also counted as evolution to give it the sparkles.

fry did you knew that octo zombie has a unique death animation when you kill it with a grave buster? it's the death animation from the "returned octo zombie" token that you got when the OG octo zombie died returned octo is no longer obtainable at all , but it was just octo zombie but without the "after life" ability , aka when it died , it dies , no giving you an octo

When newspaper zombie does the overshoot animation, the newspaper goes away permanently. You can have an undamaged, unbuffed aggravated newspaper zombie

40:59 This has me wondering if maybe this was a scrapped death animation for Surfer and maybe he was planned to function like he does in PVZ2 where when he dies he leaves behind a tough surf board (basically a wall but on the zombie side) but Popcap decided against that function and made another death animation, but still reused the old one for overshoot.

Fry did you notice that the pirates shoot bullets from different angles because they program the bullet to come from the gun and track the hero? (Same with skunk punk) Also surfboard probably had an ability to add a surfboard walnut thing when he dies, because he does that in pvz 2 ALSO newspaper loses his newspaper after overshooting because he does the animation. When he goes back to attack normally he doesn’t have the paper and stays at 1 strength

Gravebusting gas giant also has a unique death animation

Fun fact: When Iron Boarder does it overshoot animation the hero that you are playing does it superpower animation.

These unseen animations were probably leftovers from early versions of these zombies when they had active abilities as opposed to passive abilities. Interesting to gleam from it.

i like to believe zombies like gargologist, defensive end and knight are supposed to use their animation when their thing happens, so when a garg is played for gargologist, it would do that ability, when a plant trick is played for defensive end it would do that, and when knight takes damage it would put its shield up

The glow around cheese shover isn't there because of it being coded into the overshoot animation, it's there because it was placed on disco dancefloor so it technically did fusion and evolution

It seems that a lot of the zombies that have an overshoot animation are the ones who are most likely to have an additional attack.

For the surfboard I have a theory for why it would do that So when first adding surfboard zombie they planned for it to make a surfboard after being destroyed
