I’m super late to the video and comment but I learned some stuff I wanted to share . Mold is black or green and mildew is you are more likely to grow mildew than mold but they are similar. If it’s fiber it’s lint but you can grow mildew on the lint in your locs. White vinegar does work! Tea tree oil does work! But you have to let either one sit for 60 mins minimum. A 10-20 mins acv rinse will not kill the mold or mildew and you will keep getting that smell. Soak your locs in diluted tea tree oil or non diluted white vinegar. Has to be non diluted! Get them saturated then shower cap them for an hour. Was with a tea tree oil clarifying shampoo and then moisturize with a thin oil. No more mold or mildew
Beewax is a big no no for me!!! I used it for my first set of locs. After 2 months I noticed a lot of buildup towards the roots so I comb them out and started again with just oil and water
I don't use oil on my hair, i dont use conditioner, dry my hair in the sun/outside and I purposely did my locs small! I do use agave nectar as a mist on the length of my hair mixed with water and I spray my scalp with witch hazel. My hair is almost waist lenth. This has veen working for me for years now.
I'm like 99% sure you did an apple cider vinegar rinse and just wanted to say thank you....I have very blonde dreads and all natural freeform...just normal soap 18 in 1 dr bronner's and no combing w just palm rolling and ripping. I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of mine and my dreads locks. That ACV rinse cleared up all my build up after 4 years and was a first timer. It cleared it all out and made like 70% lighter weight. It was just starting to have that smell of moistness and was worried I'd have to chop. They are top notch better then 100% and feel soooo healthy. Big shout out for the ACV. If you want pics just message me lol.
Thanks for sharing! I go a salon once a month ... two before my appointment I wash my two year locs @ home and a retwist of the front locs so their not frizzy ... i wrap my Locs @ night with a head scarf and bonnet because of my frizzy blanket I use on my bed
After all those treatments he said he was using, i doubt its mold. I think people mistake mold for old sebum and skin cells. My son has NOT been maintaining his locs. When I broke them apart for the retwist it had that sour scalp smell. I had bothered him to do it for SIX MONTHS. I just can’t understand not wanting to maintain them. I dont even think it needs to be every month.. but damn… 6 months? A YEAR? We dont uses ANY PRODUCTS or gels of any kind and make sure it is fully dry after a retwist. He also wont wash it. Drives me NUTS, as his hair is thick and awesome when maintained. Everytime he scratches his scalp it drops these skin cells into the loc. I have shown him every video I can to show him what it looks like but to no avail. I told him he is gonna have locs like HR from Bad Brains if he doesnt maintain them. Locs are beautiful. I am at a loss for why he wont maintain them. I would hate for him to cut them off, but of he wont even do the BASICS to care for them maybe its the only option. Hes 18, I cant MAKE him sit for it.
I have come to embrace my build up... I used to dye my hair jet black to cover the mold/lint/build up or whatever, now, it's just a part of my story and I dont even try to cover up anymore
I have this row of about 4 or 5 locs across the back that I’m ready to cut off. I’ve done ACV soaks, Design Essential clarifying shampoo, Dawn dish soap and it’s still there. HELP‼️
I just squeeze it out with my fingers it doesn’t get all of it but you can get majority of it.. never really had too much product build up issues in my 3 years of locking up though.
Perhaps a person with a major issue should consider seeking personal loc care and a recommendation for whether the locs can be saved or need to be cut off or combed out and restarted.
So sorry but I believe the story in the first video was bogus. Braiding wet locks and leaving the braids in for two weeks would not lead to stubborn mold like that. It would take product(s) being used for a long period of time to cause that, not simple water and in just 2 weeks.
How do u make your Locs less dense…I’ve combined a lot of mine and they are really heavy. I’m worried about mold because I feel like I need to moisturize my Locs but I can’t
That second picture in the video is not a dreadlock, it's a giant hairball that was surgically removed from someone's stomach. Equally gross but incorrect.
