I do appreciate that Ben Starr seems so passionate about his performance as Clive. And it sounds like he's put a lot of thought into really understanding the character as well. I watched him in another interview a while back where he geeked out for a bit about Final Fantasy, and I can't help but imagine just how surreal that would be... growing up with a franchise and loving it so much, and one day finding out you've been chosen to play the lead role in the next installment. It must be both thrilling and terrifying.

The joy that koji and Yoshi p have for the decision to pick Ben as Clive is such a heart warming reaction for me....this game will be a GOTY heavyweight easily and possibly the best FF since FF7

Honestly Bens answer being love really fits with what I think Yoshi-P said a while ago in an interview, that this game is essentially about different kinds of love, be it brotherly love, love for a nation, love used as a weapon, etc. Clives overwhelming love for his brother and his nation probably turned into an immense amount of grieve after he lost them, which he most likely doesn’t know how to deal with which then manifest itself into his hunger for revenge. He likely doesn’t know how to move on from losing everything he loved all in one night and then also essentially becoming a slave for Sanbreque, the country that caused all of this to happen in the first place, so his only way to cope with it is to hang on to the idea of getting revenge.

That thumbnail is so badass! Clive has really evolved into one of my favorite pre-launch main protags. Can't wait to see how I feel after actually playing it. PS: Homeless Potato, did you get some "work" done? You look 5 years younger and you're glowing. You must be in a really happy place!

You can see that Yoshi-P is happy and pride to have Ben Starr as Clive. When Ben said Love, Koji and Yoshi-P were like "he knows, he definitely knows". No one in the fandom would have thought about Love for the character of Clive but yet the VA said so so he is probably very right, so it will be very interesting. Ben's last words were sound, he is definitely a fan of this franchise.

Homeless Potato first of all love your videos, they're so wholesome. Second, I know I'm late to the party but I can clear up your confusion about Clive's answer "love." What we know so far based on interviews is that "revenge" is only the driving force behind _some_ of the plot. It would appear that the focus shifts away from that partway through the story as Clive gains more allies. So in other words... we really don't _know_ what the game's truly about just yet. So understanding the scope and purpose of Clive's answer would be impossible.

There are couple of things that we still do not know much about FF16. Which kind of parallel to what happened during Shadowbringer and Endwalker prelaunch events. So far, the antagonist are kept in the dark. Only to appear in few scenes. This goes with Emet Selch in Shadowbringer. And same goes to Endwalker. We have been given a red herring on who may be the boss. Many of the audience in state of play quickly declared Titan Lost the final boss because it had a finale feel to it. Wehad similar assumptions in Endwalker where we knew and expected who the final boss was but we were very wrong. And finally, emotional scenes are rarely seen so far. The closest we have gotten was in a Japanese trailer called Moongazing. From that trailer, you see more intimate scenes and perhaps even a death scene. But of course, this may be part of the red herring again.

I absolutely agree that I love how the developeres of this game are uncompromising with their vision. They are making the game exactly how they want it to be. This is definitely going to turn some people off. It's not going to appeal to the common denominator. But because of that, it will be truly unique and one of a kind. I like to see that.

If SE were to ever take another try at a live action FF with a series, 16 would be a good place to start IMO.

I gotta say, the game looks absolutely fantastic. I don't know much about it, but the artstyle is straight out of that classic FF era 🙂

Ultimately, I think this going to be a story of grace. Clive will have to display an unprecedented restraint in mercifulness.

Fire only feeds fire, I thought it was wind that feeds fire. "Fire meets Fire"? That would make more sense. Never heard of fire feeds fire.
