Sometimes when I'm in the sumeru area I just go near a random enemy, put on zhongli's character and let the enemies hit me without killing them just to listen to the battle theme. It's so good. Also I'm Egyptian, so there's many elements of my culture both in the game and music and it makes me so happy to see. Even in the dishes u can cook in the game, there's one of our traditional Egyptian dishes in it and I was shocked, they really did their research.

Mihoyo, now Hoyoverse, actually started out as a small indie company. In 2011 they only had 6 employees basically making a videogame as a passion project. Their first couple flopped and they basically ran out of funding by end of 2013. In 2014 they released a financial success that made 150 million dollars in 3 years and they grew to 120 employees. They took a huge gamble and in 2017 they took 100 million dollars and used that to start developing Genshin. It released in 2020 with huge success far exceeding expectations, making that 100 million back within the first couple weeks, and now it brings in 4 billion per year. They continually re-invest that money into the game so the production value/budget is always improving and thats how we get concerts like this.

I’ve played in an Full/Symphony Orchestra before (I play Violin) and yeah it’s pretty complicated I guess? However, professional musicians like this- who are way better than me- are very very good at “sightreading” where they play the song just be reading what’s on the score as they play it. They maybe rehearse it for 15 minutes or so and then perform it. Everyone is focused on their own part, and the conductor is in charge of making sure ever section is playing things correctly and that everyone is meshing well together. The really crazy hard part is actually composing the music with all these different parts, which is what makes Yu-Peng-Chan and the Hoyomix team so impressive! This musical score as a whole is very complicated yeah

Symphony = Brass (Trumpet/French Horn/Tuba) + Woodwinds (Flute/Clarinet/Saxophone) + Percussion (Drums/Xylophones) Orchestra = Strings (Violin/Viola/Bass) Symphony Orchestra is basically everything combined. Everyone playing in one has to not only be prepared for every part they're supposed to do, but also make sure that you sync with your group, and your group must then sync with the other groups, and the conductor is supposed to bring everyone together, and also add flairs of their own. It is for sure a very complicated ordeal and each piece can take months to prepare. What you're hearing is certainly not the real LIVE recording of the performers, as all the audio is perfectly balanced out via post processing, but it certainly wouldn't sound too different in person either. It's certainly possible to record the OST bit by bit, but more likely they contract out the performance to professional symphony orchestras who can actually manage to do a perfect take.

The music, the mechanics, the animation, design and immersion continues to change the entire gaming experience for now and the future. It's truly changed so much. I've been in an orchestra a few times before, however it wasn't on a professional level. For more competitive ones where it's much more streamlined, they usually give you the music sheets aka what you play, you're to practice it on your own, then you all meet up a few days before the performance and just practice all together for hours upon hours on end to make sure it can all come together correctly. It can be pretty difficult and tiring, but so so rewarding. A lot of it is learning how to make each part perfectly come together into one whole piece

I agree that the music is great, legendary even, though I think it's kinda sad how you think "these people put so much love and passion in the music you don't find in other games" Hoyoverse just has the money to make theirs stand out, not to mention they make money by doing something they're passionate about. Lots of people have the passion and love, but unfortunately, most wouldn't have the money to put into the music, for example, the people behind cuphead made big sacrifices to put their game forward, it was a crazy move, but it worked in the end. Imagine how many people could have gone through something similar, and just gone broke, no big news, no nothing, because their hard work and passion didn't catch people's attention, it just goes to show how much power money has over reputation.

Ok. You said this is impressive that they hired a whole Symphony orchestra for OST right? So for their region Liyue, based on China, it was Shanghai Orchestra. For Inazuma , based on Japan, Tokyo Symphony orchestra and for Sumeru, based on India, Middle East (Persia and all) Turkish and North Africa, London Symphony orchestra...the oldest one in London, with artists from all these regions hired for traditional instruments. Basically, They actually hire the best of the best for this. For an in-game cutscene, there was a character performing Chinese Opera. They did a live performance of this afterwards for a concert and hired the best Soprano singer in China right now for it. It's one thing actually hiring an Orchestra... It's a whole other thing hiring the best ones from the specific nation the music represents while having multiple different nations in the game.

14:25 i loved how you mentioned how the tap of the drum is significant for the momentum of the piece. As a former Orchestra student, I usually played in an orchestra made up of 40 students who played either the violin, viola, cello, or bass. In all the pieces we played there would ALWAYS be an instrument or section that would be playing the “metronome” which is basically the “speed” of the piece. (It would move around too. One second it could be played by the cellos, the other by the violins.) The conductor usually keeps us in check by “waving” their wand around at a certain speed and depending on how they “wave” it we know where in the piece we are. However if for whatever reason they lost us, we would depend on the instrument playing the metronome. So while performing we always had to keep an eye out on the conductor AND whoever had the metronome at the time. While playing in an orchestra it’s a lot of “okay who am I looking now?” “What am I hearing now?” “Who am I supposed to follow” and it’s only through practice we figure out when to do what. Of course we also need to figure out when we ourselves need to detach ourselves from the rest of the orchestra to bring out our “sound.” It’s a lot of work, and yes, there is always that “what if I mess up?” during performing, we just have to push through and stay confident on our own ability and that of our peers. (This is of course from my own experience. At can differ from other’s own experiences.)

I think what's really cool about Genshin's music is the fact that each region in the game has music alluding to the actual motif of each nation's theme. So if Inazuma is Japan, they will have Japanese orchestra team and musicians to do the music. If it's Sumeru, they went with a ton of traditional indian instruments much like the other region. If it's Liyue, just China. And since they're planning to release fontaine really soon, basically just a baguette nation, we're also expecting to hear a lot of french inspired music in the game as well.

I was in band/orchestra from elementary through college. Being inside an ensemble like this is honestly incredibly magical. I’ve not been able recreate the feeling you get when you’re performing at a concert. You just get lost in the music. Once you learn to get rid of performance anxiety that is lmao. In my first few concerts I was a puddle of sweat. Super embarrassing.

Lol I love how he says he would be the conductor when that’s one of the most difficult parts of performing because you basically keep everyone on track and everyone looks at you for cues so if you mess up, they mess up 😂 but it can seem easier than playing instruments for non-musicians. I just find it silly he said that😊🩷

Homie, I know you're playing this game later today. Prepare for some insane backseat gaming. The Genshin community is absolutely ravenous for new creators enjoying the game and they go VERY overboard.

About the countries related to this region and music , one is iran. There are instruments in this orchestra that are persian and originated from iran. The one i know and play it too is santoor which is the middle one at the top . And i think it's one of the hardest instruments i know. Even in the game i see a lot of persian names .

16:20, “Symphony” is usually just the band without string instruments; “Orchestra” includes strings. “Symphony Orchestra” is pretty synonymous to “Orchestra” but is usually a higher tier of band level if a school decides to differentiate the two. My high school band was small during my years. And I remember our cymbal player dropped the cymbal right when we started the song haha. We continued cuz you should NEVER stop once you’ve started. His cymbal strap broke.

A bit of a random thing but one thing i love about e.g. the performances is going to the youtube comments and then randomly there are those people "i have played the bansur in this concert, glad to be part of this" or something and they get like tons of love or subscribers on their small channel where they play a random instrument. And the same goes for the voice actors. They have like idk 20 followers on twitter or something and then they reveal "i am the voice of xyz" and get like 100k upvotes and loads of wholesome comments. If i had to point out something positive about the genshin community it might be the support for artists they give (even if it might only be due to the sheer size of the game) :D

Video game music has always just been really good. It's very important that they make it good. It's honestly just as important as gameplay. If you are surprised by music being this good for a game...boy you aren't ready. There are tons...TONS.. of music which is just as if not EVEN BETTER than the music you just heard here

"is weird to get this level of music just for a game" no, its BECAUSE it is a game, music is an crucially importan part of a game, every moment, fight, puzzle, etc needs an accordingly good theme

i feel like its not fair saying not putting as much effort and love as genshin into the OST mean you don't care. genshin might be a free game but it rakes in more money than you can wrap your head around, they basically have infinite budget. i agree most AAA games for sure don't got above and beyond like genshin, but im sure the people writing the OSTs still put in crap ton of work, not their fault that they don't have the budget to have the OST performed by London philharmonic orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.... still glad you are enjoying the music. genshins OST is the only part of genshin i never get sick of

Tbh there is so much game devs making their own ost, sometimes using orchestra or just pop music. but usually comes from asia (example, nier automata). Rarely western game or movies put this much effort in their music ost.

Apparently, orchestra performers(or any live performances actually) gotta count for their timing. Also, conducting isnt that easy as it may seem. Im not an actual musician, ask them instead

3:45 this might be suprising, but actually Genshin is basically most hated game in internet nowdays, the hate come from entire side of internet even from Genshin community itself.. there are many reason of the hate but its mostly nonsense reason that stated without understanding what Genshin supposed to be, other reason is they just hate Anime, hate Gatcha, or some sterotype like that.. Genshin itself didn't deserve that hate, but hate is growing because many of uneducated ppl that hate the game for the said nonsense and sterotype reason, nowdays, hating Genshin is a trend in internet, they always downplay Genshin over another game or anything, following the hate trend.. they never realize and never understand how much effort has been putting into this amazing wonderful game, its very sad but here we are...
