Why this woman hasn't receive 10 Grammy awards by now just shows how stupid the music industry really is. 3 Grammy awards is not enough for this incredible singer. Kelly has a one of a kind voice, that hits the soul and emotions of every person. She is an amazing singer.

I've listened to this song many, many times, and I cry every single time. When she says "worthless," that's where I break. My dad left us when I was five. I'm 54 now. I just met my dad for the first time in 49 years a few weeks ago. It was wonderful. A hole in my heart has finally been filled.

I so understand. He came back into my life when I was in my 40s. I was surprised when he wondered why we couldn't talk everyday as if nothing happened. I was kind and gracious, still am, but some wounds are so deep, healed but scarred and there is no denying the old lost events changed the fabric of your being. There comes a time where there IS nothing to say, no more tears left, just observation and detachment.
This tore me up. It's a song she wrote about her father walking out on them when she was little, and then after winning Idol and becoming famous, he suddenly wanted to be back in her life again. So sad. Thanks Man E.
My father left me too, but not physically. He left me emotionally. When my little sister was born, and she was about 3 months old, he just walked away from me emotionally. I was six years old also. He never returned to me. The day before my birthday, I went to visit him at the senior's residence. I asked him why he didn't love me. He just looked away and didn't answer. I was totally floored. I told him I would never come back to see him because I was done crying over a man that didn't want me. Seven months later, he passed away and I never cried. He was the first and last man that broke my heart.
My dad was there. It was my mom who wasnt. Until the plot twist of my entire life when my dad took his own life when I was teenager. This song hits hard. I'm married to the now man that used to be a boy that would sneak me into his house when we were teenagers so i had somewhere to sleep at night. We have 2 beautiful children together, who will never know what it feels like to be abandoned.
I'm 42 years old. My sister and I were physically abused by our egg donor. We will never refer to her as our mother. She walked out on us. Abandoned us. She had mental issues and was put on medication. There's no excuse. It didn't change anything. She was in and out of our lives, whenever it was convenient for her. My dad remarried and our mom (step) treated us like we were her own. We started calling her mom shortly after we met her. They never said anything out of the way about her. They encouraged us to visit with her and we did. Just when we would get used to seeing her, she would up and leave again. It went on for years. She even moved to the same state to be around us. Of course it didn't last. Last time we heard from her was in the early 90's via a certified letter. The letter said she didn't even want us. The only reason she had us was because our father wanted kids. She said once we had kids of our own, we would understand where she was coming from. My son, almost 18 and my daughter almost 16. My sister has a son, 7 years old. And to this day I still don't understand. My kids are my life. She didn't even know we both graduated from high school. I went into the Army at age 17. My sister married her high school sweetheart August 1995. I married in December 1997. Found out she died in 2002 which is ironic considering what would have been her first grandchild was born the same year she died. All I can say is it's her loss. I'm the woman I am today, no thanks to her.

This song is a gut wrenching for me ☹🥺 I've had 2 dad's walk out and have separate families. But my mom remarried a few years back and he's the best papa to mine and my siblings kids ❤ he's one of my best friends now too
She really speaks to all of our issues of life that was filled with not being “Enough”....a life of not enough...the trick I found..is to become whole...by looking at who we are..in bright light...and accepting sone..working on sone...and knowing our worth....plus..when we share..and talk...maybe someone else feels less invisible....I found you either own your worth and become kind..seeing past yourself...or you fall into the “eternal victim”...that’s too easy..takes no effort to sit back and blame all on a past we can’t change...who we are...we make...by every word, motion, effort..why waste it being less...love Kelly....lol
Kelly sang this song on her Meaning of Life tour in January through March of this year. She cried a few times. Her father has passed away within the last year. That's why it was so emotional during her tour. You should watch the last day of her tour when she sings this song. She gets surprised. It was on March 30th or 31st of 2019. Thanks for the reaction! I've seen a lot of performances of her singing this song and I saw a video of her singing and her husband came in to play guitar. I cried ha! I didn't know her dad passed away which is horrible. @@TheTechManE Kelly said that her dad passed away when she was doing her pilot to her show. It was her first show and she cried while she was talking to Chrissy Metz from This is Us. The most important element of a song is for the singer to sing from their truth..an acting teacher was helping me as a singer for an audition and the first song I sang, "not a deep song",Motown's Dancing In the Street - and she picked the one spot that I had a real moment of mine in that place. I was shocked..then as she explained you have to find the truth, your truth to the words you are singing, that is why the best actors etc makes us feel the joy or sadness whatever emotion that one is trying to communicate and connect to the audience with..this should also be in life, be real, as real as one can be, as for me with anxiety and other stuff I just couldn't go that deep - now at 72 years old I need to sing, on the street, post on facebook, me singing because I've been in therapy over the years, have a great son and grandsons, 19yrs & 11 yrs old, 💖 and others, though most important my feelings are valid and they don't need to be suppressed. I wish all could find that safe place within, it's a journey I'm still on and I love your commitment to expressing your true feelings. Take care ~ be safe ~
