I remember seeing her in Harry Potter, Cats and Dogs and James and the Giant Peach when I was a kid I.e all kid friendly films but seeing her as I got older I was always impressed with the lack of filter she has and to say whatever she wants and I love it
She met Martha kaufman when she was auditioning for TV work in Los Angeles. She ended up worrying for Norman Lear on a long running TV show. Without explaining why, she really does not Martha kaufman, Without getting into legal issue, for her, Norton moved it on. There was a period in winona ryders life where she was a thief. Up to an including gwneth paltrows script for Shakespeare in love. Miriam margolyes really hated how she went about obtaining her nomination for best actress or supporting actress for the age. It comes from her mother about being with the best people from Miriam childhoods. Miriams potty mouth got her into trouble. She was miced up on radio 4. Tory mp Jeremy hunt was on before her on the today program last year at 8.30 am. And she said initially said I would have a nice day. Not realising the mic was on said I would call him an effing bustard. Which you cant say on air at tgat hour of the morning in the uk And she profusely apologised last night on the graham Norton show. Last night. She is very embarrassed. People are getting tired of her shtick.
Hey Megan, Miriam is a national treasure if a little...ok a lot too honest! You should react to more of her as she never fails to disappoint with her stories!
@@philjones45Actually, Japan bestows a formal honour of "Living National Treasure" (Ningen Kokuho) to artists who contribute to "preserving intangible cultural properties". They receive an annual stipend of 2 million yen and since the annual budget is capped legally, there are only 116 at any given time. (Until a vacancy opens up because of a death.) So, unlike the UK, it is more than a title. Or a hackneyed phrase!
I've never watched Friends either. I've seen a few clips here and there, accidentally, but I've never sat down and watched a whole episode. I'm just not interested. Now I've had people tell me things about shows I'm not interested in, and they have tried to shame me, and practically force me to watch, and it doesn't turn out well. Not a good idea. If someone isn't interested, they're not interested. Doesn't mean the show is bad, or the not interested person is stupid. 😉 But Miriam is awesome. So funny. Glad you discovered her. 😉
I've never watched one episode of Friends either. I've seen snippets but that was always more than enough for me. Everybody has their own tastes and that's fine. It's as it should be.
Speaking of innocent seeming old ladies..... My Grandmother and her sister shared a house that I would stay at sometimes over summer holidays, Maud was very old and had outlived a few husbands. One day she sat down and proceeded to give me some veeeery detailed stories of her youth which made me feel much better about myself because I was no longer the "Morally Bent" member of the family. I can talk about it now because all who knew her are now dead, well the ones that mattered anyway, but in her youth she went to London and thoroughly slutted her way about the partying crowd there in the 1920's, after she died she left me some money which allowed me to buy the only new car I've ever had. Of course my family couldn't figure out why she would have left me a bad smell let alone that much cash..... Maybe it's because I kept my trap shut.
I've never seen Friends either, just like I've never seen many many other TV series over the years. You can't watch everything as there are many better things to do with life.

Miriam was a very naughty young lady and now she's a very naughty old lady. The naughtiness abides. When she was at Newnham College Cambridge she became possibly the first person to use the F word on British TV. You would have thought they would have had the presence of mind to record the thing rather than going out live. They didn't, though.
I met Matthew. Not sure it he was always a prick, he was a colossal prick to me. I was serving in a restaurant and he ordered through his friends. It was incredibly awkward for them and the one dude apologised to me later in the evening saying that Matthew was going through a rough time. So I dont know what was true…but my one and only interaction with the man was less than pleasant.
Ive never seen an episode of Friends, yes it was huge in North America, and of course here somewhat too, but to be honest I really didnt know who Mathew Perry was.
@@philjones45 Bizarrely, Friends is the world's most popular sitcom. I'm baffled by that because I've watched over a hundred sitcoms, about half of which are better than Friends. I don't know what's supposed to be special about it.
I suspect most if not all her anecdotes are either pure invention or at least heavily exaggerated. But she's so outrageously funny and entertaining I'll give her a pass on that.
