Wheein's message on watercolour was that she will be raw and real to her true self. And she expressed that in a metaphors using the meanings of color,paintings,and canvas. The lyrics is abstract and he meaning is quite hidden and mysterious.

Moonbyul the queen of Kpop. I love how she is constantly breaking stereotypes with her music and she’s so unique and I admire her a lot. Also she is the most credited female artist in the kpop industry which I respect so much
She’s a good lyricist. You can check out her song Ddu ddu ddu from 6equence album, which is co-written and co-composed by herself. Poetic kind of lyricist i must say (If you have listened to her song,Shutdown you will know what i mean) .And, you can check out her performances on Second World, tomorrow is the final (8/11). I hope she win it because she really deserves it (you will know why if you watch the whole show).
@@theenthusiast5858 I really adore her solos. Her album Dark Side of the Moon is a masterpiece. I love Iljido (although she didn’t write the lyrics) and Moon movie. Mirror is also a standout to me, the lyrics are great and touching.
Eclipse has fewer than 15M views even when you combine the numbers for the RBW and 1THE K versions. Moonbyul commented on Second World that even she doesn't seek out music from girl group rappers. I hope that, with her doing well on Second World, people will go back and give her earlier works a listen. This should go viral like Rollin did for Brave Girls. Most, maybe all of the times I have seen someone portray evil, they act out rage like it's a response to outside influences. In Eclipse, Moonbyul's evil side is evil for the joy of being evil and that's way scarier. It comes from within. She acts that out very well.
Really though. I saw a video and I agree that she is one of the first female solo to do something like this. We’ve never seen a female do this type of genre. When I’m the future this happens I will be happy to say that moonbyul was the blueprint. She just does whatever she wants and I love that.
Moonbyul is the chameleon of Mamamoo in my view. In eclipse it's all hard image, confidence and swag. Then she dresses as a college girl and sings Cheese In The Trap like an angst teenager. 😄
YES! Eclipse is still one of THE COOLEST MVs I have seen and heard, even being a couple of years old now! The more times you watch it, the more things you will find; some of the scenes are just so short that you miss stuff in just one watch-through. I am so proud of Moon Byul-yi for that one! She had a male vocalist help her for the really low stuff but she did those really high notes in the back herself! AMAZING, she did SO WELL here! You made sense to me, talking about looking in the mirror and knowing about your own darkness. There are multiple sides to each person, not just Black-and-White. There is also a bunch of color between. Sometimes you have to be your own foot-soldier, you can't always be the one sitting around thinking and giving the orders, you have to do things for yourself (any really depressed person does not want to hear that...). Eventually you have to deal with yourself.
I agree!!! Just wanna clarify that in Eclipse, it's the opposite of what you said... because Moonbyul got Seoho of Oneus and Yonghoon of Onewe to sing the high notes as the back voices. She might have had Leedo help with the low voice though? But that, I'm not too sure. 😅 Moonbyul has always been supportive of her younger brothers and sisters. She also included them in the first round of her singing competition, Second World. Onewe was her band, Oneus and Purple Kiss were her choir for her song Congratulations. 🥰
Good interpretation of the songs! You pretty much hit the nail on the head when it came to the meaning of both songs. But there is one fact that you should know and that gives so much more meaning to Watercolor: it was Wheein’s last solo release under rbw, Mamamoo’s company. Now look back at the lyrics and you can see that it was actually Wheein’s way of foreshadowing her leaving the company (but not the group!). She perfectly explains her feelings in this song: her desire to be rejunavated, find a place to refresh herself… She’s greedy, she still has dreams, she wants to raise her value! When Wheein announced she was leaving rbw I was sad, I went back to listen to her song and I think that it’s a message to us moomoos. She said: “It looks complicated but I’m still the same”.
If you haven't seen it or had the chance to listen yet, Moonbyul has a mini-album out 6EQUENCE. Whether it's on your own or on your channel, you might really enjoy checking it out. I personally love it a lot, and her songs definitely have some variety to them. I really like Eclipse, and it was the song that got me into listening to Moonbyul's solo music.
Mamamoo's solo works are so good. They are so different from each other but when they are together, their chemistry is insane. They complete each other.
I really hope you check out Moonbyul - Refuge. Its a live performance. Even if your not a fan or kpop stan you fall in love immidiatly with her voice and the song 💚
You got the essence of Eclipse and expressed it very well. Tho they're brief the scenes where she's dressed in brown with ropes pulling her in opposite directions express the ongoing struggle between the light and the dark. Eclipse was a groundbreaking song from a gender perspective. During promotions for Eclipse Moonbyul said she doesn't want a line dividing masculine and feminine in music. Some people think of Eclipse as a boy group song done by a woman but imo Moonbyul ignores gender altogether and, as you said, does what she wants without concerning herself about social norms or what's considered appropriate for female idols. I thought Eclipse was one of the most important and impactful songs of 2020 and was disappointed that it didn't do better on the k-charts or earn Moonbyul a music show win. Dark Side of the Moon was one of my favorite albums that year along with Hwasa's Maria EP. They both deserve a listen when you get the chance. There are a lot of layers of paint in Watercolor and several ways to interpret it. I relate it to Mamamoo's song Paint Me because I always agreed with the theory that the lover they're singing to in Paint Me is actually music. So in both songs painting becomes a metaphor for creative expression and self-fulfillment. The counterfeits in Watercolor are all the fake, artificial distractions that obscure the vivid colors that only emerge when you dive into your personal ocean of authentic self-expression. This applies on both a personal and a social level. I think you missed it but in an early dance scene one of the backup dancers has a sign on her chest reading Anime Titties, referring to the exaggerated busts of many female anime characters. I think we're meant to contrast that harmful and degrading fantasy with the later animated section where she dives into the ocean and discovers the peacock. 1,2,3 Eoi! is the team chant Mamamoo does before going on stage. The song and MV are full of inside jokes just for moomoos and just for fun. Only Mamamoo can do such a goofy crack song and turn it into a work of art. lol

The girls really embodied themselves in their title tracks for their first mini. Wheein being the (visual)artist of the group with Watercolour and Moonbyul being the tomboy(I've seen her named the dad of the group) or ult girl crush. Wheein's Watercolour seems very fitting as her last hurrah(as a solo artist) in her past company. Feels like she really hinted hard about wanting to move to a different one hahaha. Eclipse MV concept for Byul is not surprising as androgyny is a big part of her persona much like Femme fatale or sexy is for Hwasa. You hit the nail on the head for the songs interpretation, I do think. But I'd like to think that the red represents the war. The song's essentially talking about an inner battle with the listener being asked,which Moonbyul do you want, MoonStar the Protector or Monster(which she pronounces Moonster) who will devour you?
When I started to fall into the Kpop hole, ECLIPSE was THAT song/music video that made me fall at all, one of my favorites since the first time I saw it 🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐

Check out Wheein' "Easy." It's her first solo track but people still loves it even now. It got released without promotion but still charted in South Korea.
"Eclipse" was a LONG night shoot... Moonbyul was exhausted. Solar showed up to give her support and the encouragement to keep going. True sisters... hard to believe there was a time they weren't sure of eachother.
Whenever I listen to Wheein's watercolor, I can't help but laugh bc this was her last solo project with rbdumb 😅 they gave her the budget and she said bye bye 🤣
