I decided to watch back my 2019 writer goals and see how I did! My first reaction video, to boot! I'm both reacting and reflecting, and it was a big year for me with my writing, so lots to reflect on.

It's so good to hear that I'm not the only one! I've been feeling so bad about this apathy--like I do love this book! But ask me to plan a launch? I'm just like "... no?" Subconsciously it's probably that I know she can't be there? Hugs to you

I'm a sucker for goals videos, and this one didn't disappoint! I liked the "reaction" style, and would be up for more. I think it's important to look forward along with the past to see how far we've come. I'm also focusing more on myself this coming year, and going back to my YA thriller which I fast-drafted in 2017 and now I'm completely reworking. Best of luck with your goals, Alexa, and I look forward to your next video :0)

I can’t imagine what you have been going through with the loss of your mom. I totally feel for you! I love your videos but I usually never comment but I just had to say a huge CONGRATULATIONS to you for hitting your goals and making it through the year!! You were literally the first author I started tubing when I started writing this year and I’m constantly rewatching your videos to absorb all of your great advice!!

I love your videos! My heart hurts for your loss. I’ve lost a parent and it’s difficult to say the least. With that being said you’ve been a great inspiration for me to finish my first novel. Which I did! I appreciate everything you do for us no name writers! Much love

I love your deep dive videos on the industry. They are SO generous and useful to us beginners. You deserve every bit of the success that you are having and I hope that it will continue and expand. I am very sorry that your mother passed away. I know how hard it is to lose a parent. I wish there were words that were effective in helping, but I know such a loss is personal and painful beyond words. I hope that 2020 brings you much joy.

I’m so proud of you (can you be proud of someone you’ve never met?) I lost my dad this year to cancer and everything in my life turned inside out. The world goes on, but one of the people I most want to share that world with is gone. I shut down. I couldn’t write. I couldn’t read. I could barely breathe. I didn’t know what to do. Watching your videos made me feel not so alone. Knowing that someone else had suffered but was still functioning gave me the kick in the butt I needed. I just wanted to thank you for what you do and give you an ‘atta girl’ cheer from the bleachers.

Not gonna lie....I sucked at my goals. My anxiety and depression really dragged me down and sucked motivation from me. I am in awe at how strong you are to meet so many goals with your mom passing and going through the grieving process. I am so sorry that you lost her and am sending love and hugs your way ❤️

I lost my mom is 2017, and it's been a struggle to get my heart back into the words. I didn't push myself or try or really do anything. It's a cluster of gray years that have faded memories of making it to the next day. I planned for 2020 to be my year, and then a close friend died and it's been a tornado of emotions and chaotic thoughts and crazy "life is too short" motivation.

Enjoyed this video. I’m glad you are giving yourself time to grieve. I lost my mom almost 2 years and there are still days that sneak up on me and lay me flat. Congratulations on all your professional success. I love how you challenged yourself to try a new genre. Loved the book reading recaps you did too. I picked up a few more today at the library that you recommended. Best wishes to a great 2020. Looking forward to following your journey and gaining some great writing and reading tips in the year ahead.

I loved this video! What a great way to reflect on the year. Sending you lots of love about your mom's passing... it reminded me a bit of JK Rowling's experience of using the loss of her mom as healing and inspiration for working on Harry Potter. (You're in good company when it comes to channeling emotions into words and creative works.) I had a number of writing goals for 2019... I didn't hit my playwriting or play submission goals at all... but I did hit my novel writing goals. I finished and edited my first full length novel at 83,000. I queried about 20-25 agents and got a few personal rejections and a request for full manuscript (that didn't end up going anywhere.) One feedback I recieved was that she liked my writing style but wasn't compelled by the story. That really excited me, so that's part of my goals for 2020.... work on creating more complex, more interesting stories. Wish you all the best, Alexa with all your goals! Thanks for putting out really useful content!

Alexa, I love this video. Yearly goals are so hard to live up to. I think that's why I'm having a hard time with it this year. One question: it caught my attention about how you were talking about The Stars We Steal and marketing. Is the publishing house doing much marketing with you/for you or are you mainly doing it yourself (I know a lot of trade authors do a lot of promotion themselves. I was just curious how much your house does vs how much you come up with)
@AlexaDonne
@AlexaDonne 4 года назад
My publisher is definitely doing less, which I expected for a book 2. They're still doing a lot, especially close to release, but things like my pre-order campaign fell to me (which is normal). Authors also always plan their own launches unless they're mega famous. But generally you get way less when you're not a debut, sadface.

I use product haha! (also, admittedly, good brow genetics with a side of my mother warning me as a teen NEVER to overpluck!) My go-to is brow paste, usually either Colourpop or Benefit. It's the product with the little pot and the brush--I use it to fill in the places where my hair is too light/patchy, which is what makes them look good on camera :)

I'm glad you said it took you more then three months. XD I was like "Woooow, you can write an entire book in three months?" XD I wrote mine in 6 months. The first draft I mean. I'm still not done 1,5 years later. :D Why does it have to take so much tiiime? Also, yeah, I'm totally a one project at a time person too. XD I mean, I have ideas for at least 10 projects. But I KNOW, that if I touch them, my first project will never get done! And that's not what I want. XD

I like goals videos, it motivates me for mine. In 2019 I set 10 goals and I got 6 and a half done. My half I wanted to get 2 rounds of beta reader feedback and I only got to 1. It took me longer to draft my book. This year I'm changing up my goal system. I have goals divided into categories and I have a word of the year to try to live up to. I got the word idea from Sarah Cannon. I can't wait for your 2020 goals. Happy New Year.
