I still remember searching “drum solos” in late 2007 and discovering “Insane Drunk Drumming” and being blown away. It was the video that has made me follow this channel ever since. Though you might’ve been cocky back then, god knows the countless people like me you inspired with it. Happy to see you continuing to grow and inspire 15 years later Samus.
@@66Samus I had a very similar video (although the fills weren't nearly as clean as yours tbh) when I was the same age but I was shirtless and my girlfriend back then told me "You can not show that on the internet!" so I deleted it. Shame. Might have become a drumyoutuber instead of a normal working person. Those early youtube days were great! And still I think for a 17 year old you were crazy fucking good.
Oof! The old days when Steven first started blasting away at his kit. I'd like to say that you've improved quite significantly since your first videos, and are giving all of us the influence that we need to be better bahees.
Man I don’t get the ego he’s talking about just seems like a high schooler having fun I found my self laughing the whole time even at the faces genuinely enjoyed all of it
I've been subscribed to you since you were in Abigail Williams and did a playthrough of one of their songs. It was so good. You are a great drummer and I'm glad you are living your dream now.
You were in Abigail Williams ? nice I share a birthday with Abigail Like Carrion's Picking of course is an amazing song, thinking about that brings me back
@@PRINCEVIOLENT Yeah Samus played on their EP and I think their first LP before they went more atmospheric on their sound. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GISvqNhaRAs.html
Thanks, now I have the imagine of Samus travelling back in time, to be a proper Shifu for his younger self. With a cane in the shape of a drumstick for precision and teaching some humility.
Don't be so hard on younger Sam :) I guess it's a lesson for your current self, but I'm pretty sure a lot of us were like that at 17. Plus, if I had chops like that at that age, it would have been hard for me to not be cocky about it. Thanks for taking us on this fun trip.
The first Samus video I ever saw was the Abigail Williams drum through with that sick single handed snare roll at the end of the song. Shit was badass!
Oh boy, the nostalgia! I used to play Flies in the guitar as a warm up while playing along with your playthrough for like 2 years, maybe more..! Also your video of Empyrean into the Cold Wastes introduced me to Abigail Williams!
God, I remember all of these vids. They blew my mind back in the day! Still remember when you used to drum for Abigail Williams too. Must have been around 14 years ago or thereabouts.
When Suspyre’s great divide came out I was so jealous of you. I was in a totally counterproductive mindset. Now, I see you as a brother in drumming and your consistency as a player and creator inspires me daily.
dude the night vision is nostalgic for me. i remember watching the abigail williams cover 5 million times with my buddies back in the day. glad you used it lol
The drums on that album are pretty wildly technical for the time and genre, lots of use of odd stuff like quintuplet double bass and uncharacteristically fast triplet fills that we really haven't seen on any other BDM records. Awesome drummer
@@Invontor exactly! And everything recorded obviously doesn’t hold a candle to how they sound now, but something about the guitars and drums just sound so good to me. I think Zach really helped set a new bar for them at that time
@@abominabledrphibes69 For sure. I adore what TBDM is today, no matter what the band or anyone else thinks about past albums each one has pushed their sound forward to the point we're at now
Samus would be a great teacher. The fact that he said "Oh, you frucked up there, your stick got caught under the hihat," just makes it seem like he is a teacher correcting a student's mistakes 🤣
Dude, this is awesome. We all cringe at our past selves, but the flip side is we see how far we've come from. Plus the fart video was funny haha. Never delete anything!
hahahaha. Ya, it's great to b able to laugh at urself anytime for anything.... " Get rid of and/or drop the Attitude" U say. " all started somewhere". TRUE. I'd call it a form a drive/determination to be and want and have better. Striving for more. Lookin back at old stuff of urself can also be ur own teacher/guide for a reminder/refresher of mistakes, skill, and even more/different/better ideas for creation/creativity on the path ur blazin that no one's been before. Hence: An Innovative Mind Set.
Dude you were sick. I love you bro. You continue to inspire me. Seeing videos like this help me put in perspective where you started and tells me.i don't have to be perfect starting off. bUT, that being said.... You are still sick. Then and now
Bought my Alesis DM5 used back in 2012 or so, still have it and I still use it to this day. Mine was produced back in 2004 so going on 17 years + it's been through hell and back with me I guess you could say it's quite an unbreakable piece of technology
Dude! I remember all of these videos! I became a fan of yours because of these videos. I remember ripping all of these videos and watching them on my iPod classic 5th Gen over and over again. Oh, and FYI, i still have my alesis dm5 to this day and use them frequently. Thanks for the memories, bruh! Stay safe!
I used to love these videos back in the day, I was just getting started on guitar and I came across that video of you sweeping on a Hello Kitty Guitar... Crazy.
Bro ! we all have to learn to walk before we run dude , I can see & hear a 17 yr old with determined passion for all things metal , don’t get rid of this , it gives hope for the young metallers coming up as well 😎
Ever since I heard Alexi followed the reaper, I've been jamming all his songs with my brother. Hatebreeder changed my musical direction forever. I just wish I still had all my signed merch from those early 2003 days.
You are so humble now and even if you put in perspective, where you were when you were at that age.... Someone once taught me that being the most cocky guitar player I'm the room is a good thing in a certain way. You have to market yourself. Now that you're where you're at you don't have to do that anymore. But you made it to where you are for being who you were. Love you samus
There is nothing wrong with being "cocky" Samus aka confident, just look at Buddy Rich.......(it likely has to do with why you think you still cant play some of those fills now)
Ads are actually pretty helpful from Sam, and wow 41 years old? That’s the age i finally stopped drinking and drugging. One thing I remember from the rooms is that you will step over a lot of bodies on your way to recovery. A moment of silence for another tragic loss, and for those still suffering….
Ah buddy. I know you were feeling sad but you still came through, being funny. These old videos are brilliant to watch. You had to get from there to where you are now. You weren't even that bad. I had a standard Pearl kit for years and then I had a Sonor. I really enjoyed this. Thanks. Haa you and your buddy are just like Terence and Philip from South Park
I think the first video I saw of yours was just after this: Stabwound with Brandon from Mutiny Within, the Born Of Fire video and a couple of others! That was just after I discovered Abigail Williams in around 2009. Great to see you going back over these bahee videos, Samus!
Never delete. It is a part of who you are, who you have been, and who you have yet to become. Amazing stuff. Keep on keepin on! ( you keep us laughing bro)
Dude you are like the Monty Python of the metal world! And that is a very high praise :)) You always put a smile on my face while blowing it away with your drumming.
Hellacious drumming bro. You beast it. Better then I can ever do. Also raid is a badass game. Haven't joined any clans. But I have played the campaign offline. But I like it.
