I agree! He’s been very, very inactive on all social media and nobody’s heard anything from him, he wasn’t at the Whitestar premier, where he started in the movie, and he hasn’t updated his Instagram in a little less than a month. I’m sure he’s fine, probably just busy.
I just thought someone was claiming to own him and made a “for sale vid”. Don’t scare me man Edit: Jesus thx for the likes! I’ve never had that many! :D
Emporio has a charisma and gentleness about him that is just wonderful. Don’t know much but am learning and my favorite is watching and listening to you Matt. The attractions I find with you and Jesse is when you bring Bear And Macho together or with the stallions. It shows with your horses how much dedication and love both of you Give to them. You have learnt to bring out the personalities of each animal and I can see it in your pups as well. I tend to treat my animals like my children and try to treat them as individuals. Watching you both is just awesome and I can spend hours just watching you. Thank you.
I wouldn’t classify him as baroque - compared to my mare. He has a beautiful neck but the rest of his body is very elegant! She’s a tank... what’s been worrying me has been his back legs - I know you say he’s good for the breed, but I really don’t think so - watching your newest videos though he has gotten SO much better! Great work! He’s a beautiful horse and it was fun to finally know his studbook name and look him and his lines up in the stud book. Remember to get him changed into your own name x
Wow the transformation! it's so amazing to see how much he has changed. But on a different note does anyone know if Jesse is okay? he has not updated his instagram for almost a month :/ has something happened to one of his horses or is it something between him and Matt? I don't want to speculate too much but I'm quite worried.
Emporio is a beautiful horse and though I don't have the years of experience with dressage that you do, I believe that he will be the prize that you wanted to have. What an amazing temperment and work ethic he has!
I would have definitely been concerned with his walk. Very short reach and stiff. I am looking forward to seeing how he is coming along! Thanks for all the great videos. Nice to see a competitor who really cares about his horses.
He's awesome! We've had PRE horses for 27 years now and I can say they are worth their weight in gold... they are the easiest, sweetest, most athletic, smartest horses in the world and Cardenas has some of the most beautiful horses in the world. Congratulations! 😁
Yes I definitely would love to see the progression of Emporio. He is so beautiful. He is high stepping in the beginning. I have read about the painful soring of a horse to get them to really high step. How was Emporio trained to do the high stepping? I think Emporio is gorgeous. A force of nature!
Not a comment on this video (!) but have just discovered your videos, and just seen the one of Macho pulling the carriage - it was delightful - the countryside around your home, and your grounds, is so beautiful, and it was lovely to see Macho being able (because not wearing blinkers) being able to look around and take an interest in his surroundings.
So impressed with your knowledge-base! I always feel as though I have learned something useful in a deepening appreciation for your eloquence with equines and just relax into such an enjoyable video series, with Matt, Jesse, Ava and your beautiful horse-family. Love all that you explain and grateful you are so good to your animals and educate along the way. ~Peace out!
Wow how lovely to see how u found emporio. It’s great to see how he was to where he is currently. He has come on in leaps and bounds under ur hands. And u can see where emporio has matured in his body already with muscle forming nicely and how he is maturing well under u when riding him. For such a young stallion he is very grounded and a very good boy. X
Thank you for sharing your memories I think Emporio has come a long way in just a short time. And the main thing is if you are happy with him and your choice. Which by everything I have seen I think you are. Emporio has filled out beautifully and he can only get better with proper training and I know you will see to that part as well. Definitely hope you will share more videos like this enjoy them a lot. Best always Rusty
Matt , Emporio was so young in the sale video, and his back, rear and legs were stiff and weak, like he hadn't been trained and worked properly or regularly. I'm SO glad you saw his possibilities and went to meet him. There's nothing like a live meeting, is there ? You knew your horse. And Emporio is so lucky you came together. What a special, sweet, gorgeous boy , who tries to give you his best , and keeps getting better and better and better. Your professional lessons are making a big difference ,helping you both refine your dressage understanding, what is needed and how to connect to get there. Keep talking to him, stroking and loving on him, he'll give you his whole heart. Matt, I'm always impressed with how well behaved your stallions are. Enough exercise, mental stimulation and high expectations I guess! With your two boys facing each other in their stable, I agree, what attention you give to one, it's good to give to the other. Don't let hurt feelings or jealousy cause any problems. You have 2 fascinating, magnificent stallions . Thank you for sharing their lives and schooling and fun times with us ! And wow, what a fantastic equestrian tack business you've started. You and Jesse are raising the bar in the horse world !
We have wild horses here in the TRNP of the Dakotas in the US some are of Spanish descent they did put a shire in with them at one point and time to make their build heavier, that stud only covered a small percent of the herd thankfully. Their coat colors are amazing how they change with the seasons, my favorites are the bay roans, I never use to be a roan fan.. we also have some gorgeous grays and one dun stud that produces some gorgeous offspring. The prior mountain herd is another must see!
Kinda wish you got the palomino he was so beautiful! He might of clearly seemed depressed but you could have made his life a lot easier ... But Emporio is AMAZING!!!!
The palomino was not the right horse for him. He wasn't on a rescue mission. There are lots of sad stories like the palomino. Really feel bad about it? Maybe a small donation to a horse welfare rescue will make you all feel better.
Emporio's coat looks quite a bit lighter now , and you're right, Matt, with relaxation ( and a better surface !)he's bring his rear feet more forward , his gate and muscle have improved. Under your care and schooling Emporio is moving into his potential - in the ring he looks magnificent ! I love your vids of him because we've gotten to see what a sweetheart he is. In the pasture , stall , or under saddle , he looks like a joy to be with , and as a stallion, he's extra special ! Matt, what is his height in hands ? I think the years ahead will be wonderful for the both of you - I'm so very glad you found each other ! Give him a hug for me, will you ?
Matt, the both of you are so in sync together as if you're both learning at the same time. Emporeo seems to know his boundaries from day one and I can see that Spanish flair big time in him but yet he has this inner knowing and intelligence... I know stallions can be wild but he's a gentleman ...The video was awesome and in retrospect I can see his improvements , heightened confidence in you as well.... We as humans learn to deal with our short comings and that's ok. Horses aren't perfect either . The challenge is to work with the imperfections to improve them in a positive manner, gentle manner and practice will reward you with many accolades. He's a one in a lifetime gift from above as I see it ! Gorgeous and so poised, magestic. ❤ Sending love to all your horses ! ✌
Beautiful horse! Definitely noticed that they do not have a qualified farrier he was way off and that was due to being shawd in correctly. Most people do not realize that a farrier a qualified farrier can do so much for a horse. They had him standing almost Straight Up and Down that was why he could not move correctly, his feet look like cones. But I'm sure you've gotten this corrected slowly which will completely improve the movement of this horse. He's still very young and hopefully it hasn't caused any problems such a shin splints ligament damage or bowing any tendons. But he is gorgeous!
He’s a really beautiful horse! And for a young horse he did have a good basic foundation. I think from what we’ve seen from yourself the ad was quite true to word! He’s a class horse and fantastic for a young stallion! I bought my mare unseen as a two year old and went completely on the word of the owner at the time. She exceeded my expectations and more. I started her under saddle myself when she was three and a half (she’s now five) and we’ve had a rocky road from there but it’s really starting to go our way now! I’m so impressed by how Emporio looks now since you’ve had him! You’re going to do so well together when you get out competing 😍
I'll admit - I cringe at his movement, fore and aft. But, as you stated - "for the breed". For his breed, he's very nice, you were wise in selecting him and you understand what is important "for the breed". That is what counts.
I'm amazed by how these PRE stallions are so gentle and well tamed at the age of 3,5! Most sports horses we have here in Belgium are still very much like babies at that stage of their life. I guess it must be due to the very different education they received in Spain. As you said we wouldn't trot that deep in the saddle so soon for example. But yes I think I too would have stopped on Emporio's video. Mostly for how he's built! He really looks amazing and even better now that he's getting some quality work in thanks to you! I wish you two loads of happiness and progress!
You know as horses mature and grow they go through so many changes. I think by the time this horse is 5 or 6 you will see huge changes from this initial video. Especially in his tracking. Also as you pointed out the rider probably did his best. I have always found that when a horse has a single partner they develope that bond and magical things begin to happen. I am sure you have begun to see this already. He is lovely
I always find it interesting, seeing a professional look for a horse compared to someone who is looking for a pleasure horse. What they look for vs what you look for. It helps see the other side when you're trying to understand why they purchased the horse that they did. Love love love Emporio, Matt :) He's a gorgeous horse and you two a definitely a match! Can't wait to see more from you and him ^^
Emporio has turned inside out. You can see his raw talent last year. Confirmation and temperament is everything in a young horse. Well done on a great first year with him :)
I would love to see more progression videos...I could learn more about your riding and understand the improvements that Emporio is making. He is beautiful!
I am not one for looking at an animal for standards and flaws, so I maybe can't see what you meant when discussing them. But I'm glad you could tell he was sweet and would make a good companion! He's lucky you've worked with him to help him come so far and be a happy horse.
Emporio has definitely come a ways since the sale videos were taken. His back, top line, and neck have certainly filled out. I think it’s interesting how the walk has come together as he’s gotten stronger. The canter also seems to have smoothed, for lack of a better word. More through his back and pushing upward. Great impulsion. You will certainly get high marks for it in competition! Very lovely mover even in the video, just needed some direction and muscle. Obviously both of which were achieved. I felt the video was an accurate representation of a young stallion and appropriate to some respect for his age. I could definitely see the potential he has and agree that he had some great moments in his movements, but the overall attitude of the horse was superb. I’ve been reviewing sale videos of young Dutch Warmbloods and most are similar to this video.
I really appreciate your video's,they are much more respectful to the humans in the video and I like hearing about what you think and see, because I'm self not that experienced and eager to learn more. And since I was little I've always dreamed about having a horse just like yours,I appreciate the build of the horse and his elegant appearance. But any horse is beautiful.Thank you for your videos
Dear Matt, you made an excellent decision when you purchased Emporio. I rode and trained many young horses in my equestrian career and you could see Emporio's potential in the sale video. One of my earliest trainers, Bruce Davidson, who was one of the top 3 day competitors in the '70s and '80s, told me to always look for a horse with a strong sense of self preservation - if the horse is smart enough not to put himself in harms way then, by default, his rider is safer too. In the sale video you can see that Emporio is tense and yet, despite his nervousness he tries very hard to do what his rider asks of him - that's a horse with a good mind. You were absolutely correct that his lack of over step was caused by his tension (he almost had himself curled into a ball) but looking again at his willingness, conformation and athleticism, it was obvious that with proper training he would begin to reach, use his back and swing forward from behind lengthening his stride. He is definitely a good dressage prospect - well done.
i would have definitely considered buying him too if i was also looking for a horse. in the conformation video his hooves looked really well kept and he has a friendly look in his eyes. i didnt see the potential in him like you did though, but that is definitely because i dont know what to look for in the horse's movement yet, so lack of experience. it's great to see how much he has changed already after you bought him.
My horse is stabled in Spain so I am around a lot of Spanish riders and I had a chuckle when I saw the guy showing the horse with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth, so typical...lol. I would have been concerned with how Emporio dragged his hind legs and being so stiff. These PRE horses have such a natural collected look to them that they often get forced into a frame before they are ready. I am so looking forward to seeing the transformation, even though I have seen you riding him in other videos. I would never have thought he went this way to start.
i look forward to coming home to watch you videos to escape the sadness in my life right now and only you and jesse are currently doing that for me so thank. you.
As I am currently looking to purchase my next horse and I understand where you are coming from. I fully agree with you about the back legs short striding. Since this is a young horse it never hurts to look at them. The rider was definitely not an experienced rider either. It would have been nice to see lunging videos to see if the horse’s issues were rider related or horse related. There could have been tack fitting issues where the saddle did not fit the horse. I have sold some horses through the years. I have always disclosed issues that I found with the horse and put a buy back/first refusal on the horse. This way if the horse did not work out for the new owner, the horse would come back to me and not be bounced around from home to home. Matching a horse and rider is always important. We all have different personalities and so do horses. If there is a personality clash the relationship between horse and rider will not work.
Hi Matt, lovely video. Very truethfull, very honest. I agree with his walking, being very short with his hind leg movements. i.e.not over-tracking. Maybe that will come later when he gets a bit older and can bring his back up a bit. Does he do stretching down with his head and neck to maybe loosen up the rear end a bit. As you say his trot is good and because of his age, he does rather stumble into a canter. All said, he is a beautifull horse.
You should come out with a calendar. pony in the pool for July ! I always buy a horse calendar every year. Big blocks for writing in my schedule. Think about it.
I am glad he went to you. I think you see that he is quite sensitive and needs an affectionate touch. I think he will bloom with you. You both lucked out.
Hey Matt the same thing happened with my new stallion, when you give the reins and he wouldn’t follow. How did you get him to follow the reins? BTW he look amazing 😊🐴😊😊
He moves so beautifully. I seem to remember you were slightly hesitant because you weren't sure you wanted a gray? The tone of his coat makes him look like silk.
You are fantastic!! You know so much about horses, it's so cool. I don't have a horse, I don't know much about them but your so interesting and educative. I learn every video and I love it. KEEP GOING!!
Yes, he has definitely matured very much in a year. He looks so young and inexperienced here. I can see your point re the walk and the tension for sure. It is a testament to his emotional control that he does so well out in the open, so young. Overall, do not know much about PRE, but I can see why you bought him. Gorgeous animal. Great mover. You called it Matt, great decision for sure.
I got a bit worried....I thought you were selling him😱😱😱😱 Then when you explained what it was it was fascinating. He has come a long way. It’s just wonderful you got him. It would be interesting to see you riding him in a field like the sale video. Then the comparasion would be easier to see.
Would love to see how he is now, and how he changed over the months. I have a 4 year old I bought 3 months ago. He’s my first young horse so I’m keen to see how Emporio has developed.
Great video Matt! Definitely a transformation video - would be very interesting. Thank you for sharing your first thoughts about Emporio. It was really interesting to listen to your analyzing. Especially were you saw potential. Of course he is a stunning horse. But as the riding video wasn’t the best - it’s not always easy to see the potential especially a young horse might have!
Oh yes I'd have wanted to go and see him too! You picked a beauty Matt! My horse was grey, called Minstrel - so I always have a soft spot for greys. I think that you have done amazingly with Emporio and you are definitely not an amateur rider! I love your vlogs so much. Lots of love from Liz in the UK xxx 😍🐎🇬🇧
Gee! This was really good Matt. Yes it sure would be nice to see a video. How much progress Emporio has made in this pass year. Tks again and enjoy your day :-)
Stunning Stallion, whoever Branded him that way Sad ... the worst I’ve seen. Delighted to see he’s Got a wonderful family now and will have a great Life .
@@robinramirez3136 yes, all "branding" is decided on by the breed association. The if, when and where, not to mention what(style, and type- hot or freeze)
Ingrid Blohm-Hyde in some countries like Spain and such it’s much safer to have a branded horse. Horse thievery is a big underground market in these kind of countries
This is unrelated to the video but I fell in love. There is this gorgeous new horse at my stable. A five year old gelding, gray and HUGE. Sadly I won't be able to ride him because he's just there for schooling. He has barely any training but as far as I've seen him (just in his stable) he's really gentle and sweet. I want to ride him soo badly...
Matt, thank you for posting this video. I must say watching the video I most likely would not have bought Emporio 🙈. Don’t get me wrong he is beautiful. However his hind end left me with great concern. When not in movement his hind quarters are very far out not underneath him. And when he does move the hind looks very weak and they don’t track up. It drives me crazy when the rider does a sitting trot on such a young baby. So bad for his back ! As for the resistance that would not have bothered me because the rider was forcing him into a frame and Emporio clearly not balanced enough 😔😔 Having said all that I understand when you feel a connection with a certain horse. You did do very thorough vet check. I’ve noticed when watching your later videos how his hind end was looking very weak by comparison to the front. He seemed to be very tight in his hips and therefore legs. But by your latest video his hind quarters were completely built up and he was tracking up much better. But if I remember, I think his right hind quarters still looked weak 😬 You mentioned the breed, I’m not familiar with this breed so perhaps that accounts for it. I am super curious tho, how come you cut the mane off your new beautiful stallion 😔😔😔. But not his 🤔🤔 ? Not being judgy madoo at all just voicing what I seen. Love you both together and I’m so happy it worked out 💕
Looking forward to the comparison video. Maybe you could compare each individual movement which would give a better overview of the changes made. Lovin the video Matt.👍
